Bamber hopeful for 'Law & Order: UK' return
Thursday, April 23 2009, 20:30 BST

By Lara Martin, Entertainment Reporter

Law & Order: UK star Jamie Bamber has revealed that he is hopeful that the crime drama will be renewed for a second season.

The actor, who plays DS Matt Devlin in the ITV1 series, told PA that the fate of the show is currently uncertain.

"I think it will [return], but I don't know because as you know there are cutbacks on ITV but I think otherwise it would be a pretty well bona fide hit - these are difficult times," he explained.

"I'm pleased people seem to have watched it and seem to enjoy it. And that's why we make TV, we don't want to make it for the critics."

The programme, a spinoff of the long-running US series, had an average of 5.86 million viewers over its seven-week run.

Earlier this month, Bamber's co-star Freema Agyeman described the likelihood of a second series as a "big dominoes thing", citing the current television climate for the uncertainty.
