BBC2 to show The Wire.

I've heard ravings about this on the Net. Is it worth setting my PVR?

And so would Katie (if she were here) and Tom, as they were the ones who put me onto it in the first place smile.gif

I guess it all depends whether or not you can handle the bad language in it wink.gif

On the plus side, it should have subtitles on BBC2, shouldn't it? unsure.gif laugh.gif

Apparently, it starts week beginning 28th March.

Not sure what time yet, but if it's got bad language, it's gotta be minimum 9pm.

I'll add my name to the list of assurees (it's a word tongue.gif ) as another one who picked it up after seeing various recommendations on this board. It's a fantastic show thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

So glad it's gonna be on BBC2, it means that I can tell people to watch it there instead of giving out my boxsets. Although, I think the boxsets are the best way to watch it so you can binge. It's like reading a good book, where you can't wait to dive straight into the next chapter. Which is what the writers were going for I suppose, seeing as they mooted it as a "visual novel" smile.gif

Oh, and I defy anyone to not love the legend that is The Bunk laugh.gif

We love The Bunk thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

I still remember his line when looking at photos of a load of headless bodies: "You just know there's a police somewhere looking at a whole buncha heads" lmaosmiley.gif

He and Omar are my favourite characters smile.gif

The Wire to be shown on BBC Two

Led by British actor Dominic West, the critically acclaimed drama shows Baltimore life from drug users to politicians to local journalists.

Although it has been aired in the UK on satellite TV, it will be the first time it has ever aired on terrestrial TV.

All 60 episodes across the show's five seasons will be shown stripped across the week. Transmission dates have yet to be announced.

"We are delighted to offer terrestrial viewers the opportunity to watch this ground-breaking series," Sue Deeks, the BBC's head of series, programme acquisition, said.

"It's a wonderful chance for everyone to see what the critics have been raving about for so long."

Created by David Simon, The Wire's first season tells the story of a single drugs-and-murder police investigation from the point of view of both the police and their targets.

The show, which previously aired in the UK on pay-TV channel FX, has been championed by TV critic Charlie Brooker, who told viewers of his BBC Four show Screenwipe: "Quite simply, it's a stunning piece of work."

Author Irvine Welsh called it "the best thing on TV. By far. Nothing's close to it".

I'm guessing it will be Mon - Thur in the 11:20 after Newsnight slot that they recently showed Band of Brothers in.

Nooo, I hate it when they show many episodes in a week. How am I supposed to have chance to watch them all before my hard drive fills up....!? I suppose I could make use of the burn to dvd option. ponder.gif

Screening dates and times are yet to be announced, but the series, which once famously featured the word f*** 38 times in one scene, is likely to show after the watershed.
