The Reichenbach Fall

Season 2 Episode 3

The Tower of London, Pentonville Prison and the Bank of England are all broken into on the same day - and yet nothing is stolen. Holmes is convinced it is the work of James Moriarty, a criminal whose ingenuity matches his own, and as the masterminds lock horns in one final problem that tests loyalty and courage to the limits, the detective finds himself fighting for his reputation, his sanity and his life. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman star in the award-winning crime drama, with Andrew Scott and Katherine Parkinson

Erm, already ? And why Fall instead of Falls... unsure.gif

Despite my dislike of their interpretation of Moriarty, this was my favourite episode so far. It actually slowed down and took its time, which really worked in its favour, imo.

So, theories about Sherlock's 'death'? I reckon Molly arranged for something to be there for him to land on - mainly because of the way he delayed his jump and made Watson stand in a certain position - from where Watson couldn't see the pavement - and then Watson was deliberately knocked down by the cyclist to delay him getting to the scene so that the bystanders (probably all arranged by Molly to be there) could spray some fake blood around etc. Sherlock lies there playing dead, fake paramadics turn up, fake death certificate etc via Molly.

Doesn't stand up to close examination but I'm sure it'll be some variation on that theme ponder.gif shrug.gif

Did anyone else notice the truck parked there one minute and not the next? Maybe Sherlock jumped into the back of it?

There's another theory doing the rounds that it wasn't Sherlock lying on the ground, but a corpse that Molly had appropriated from the mortuary. The corpse was wearing a Sherlock mask, which would tie in with why the little girl screamed when she saw Sherlock (because Moriarty also wore a Sherlock mask when he held the kids captive). Sherlock was driven off in the back of the truck. It's a bit more far-fetched, but we did see a body hit the ground - perhaps the corpse was thrown out of the back of the truck by Sherlock?

I also think Mycroft was involved, perhaps arranging everything with Molly's help? ponder.gif

I'm sure Moffatt and co are sitting back reading all these theories this morning and deciding what to do - I half suspect they don't know the answer themselves at the moment! laugh.gif

I didn`t notice the truck, but I did think that Molly and the cyclist were involved somehow. ponder.gif I did wonder if it was Moriarty going off the roof, but it did seem to be an alive body. unsure.gif

Cracking ep, with lots of nice twists. Eek at Moriarty setting up Sherlock and pretending to be a scared actor. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Hee at Watson commandeering the taxi with ` Police ! Sort of`. laugh.gif

Really good finale. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

I was too caught up with the episode to really notice how he might of pulled off faking his death the only thing I did do was have a really good look at 'the body' on the ground ( went right up to the screen turned my head upside down as well th_headhurts.gif wink.gif ) and it really looked like Sherlock.

Quite like the theory that the cyclist dosed John with the drug from last week so he saw hat he wanted / most feared. ponder.gif

Actually thought Moriarty was quite good this week. ohmy.gif Still OTT but it worked better here.

Excellent Moriarty (but maybe them both falling from a bridge in a river would have been more in the book spirit unsure.gif )

so Watson is so upset, he didn't try follow the medics who rushed Holmes inside (if he thought holmes was dead, wouldn't he wonder why the body is not left for the cops to arrive, even suicide are investigated as suspicious or am i watching CSI too much? laugh.gif )

anyway how did sherlock knew moriarty wanted him to kill himself or was he just planning an exit ? and wouldn't the sniper notice something, he was on the other side of the street or was he too busy following his target? there was a truck but also something like a huge dust bin unsure.gif

it would have worked better if holmes hadn't show up at the cemetary but then i suppose the info about a third serie would have blown the whole thing laugh.gif

I don't agree. When Conan Doyle killed off Holmes he wasn't intending to bring him back at all. This is different, and if they hadn't put that shot in there would have been uproar. Instead, they've got everyone trying to figure out how he survived and screaming for another series. It's something of a masterstroke, actually.

Also, Holmes's body was rushed away, no doubt by fake paramedics, whilst Watson was being thwarted by the crowd and was still disoriented and/or drugged (I like that theory), so that criticism doesn't wash.

I hadn`t realised till - looking at various comments - that Watson was told by Sherlock to stand in a certain place. I`d just thought that was so Watson could attest to Sherlock committing suicide, rather than being positioned so he would be hit by the cyclist. ponder.gif

See they do have it all worked out. Probably. wink.gif

One thing I'm not clear about is whatever is the explaination it took alot of planning but he couldn't of known Moriarty would force him to jump to his death to save his friends so was he planning to fake his death anyway. shrug.gif
