I'm quite interested in this given the people involved plus I listened to quite a few Sherlock Holmes's on Radio 7 recently which has wetted my appetite a bit.

As if Steven Moffat didn't already have enough to do as writer and executive producer for Doctor Who, it looks like the BBC is about to renew his Sherlock series for a second season, now that the first episode of the modern-day Sherlock Holmes adaptation debuted to huge ratings.

Steven Moffat has ruled out a crossover between Doctor Who and Sherlock.
The writer told the New York Times that it would be "quite hard" for the show's central characters to collide. "I think there are problems of doing that," he admitted. "Because then you would say that Sherlock Holmes lives in the same world as The Doctor, and there are Daleks and all sorts of things. If a Sherlock Holmes story depends on time travel being impossible, it's quite hard [to do it] if he's a personal friend of The Doctor's." However, he admitted that fans of both shows have often enquired about the potential crossover. "I think everyone who's passing me in the street is suggesting that at the moment," he revealed. Moffat also confirmed that work has begun on the next three-part series of Sherlock. Doctor Who returns to BBC One for a Christmas special on December 25. The second series of Sherlock is expected to air in autumn 2011. |

I found the three SHERLOCK TV movies on the shelf. Naturally, I had to try it out. Naturally, I had to express my opinion.
A STUDY IN PINK. Often brilliant reworking of A STUDY IN SCARLET. Nice twists to throw off those who are famliar with the original. Watson's neuroticism is a nice twist -- Martin Freeman might otherwise have been boring without it. Benedict Cumberbatch is as good a SH as any I've seen outside of Rathbone -- his only deficiency being his dark deep voice which doesn't match the intellectual incisiveness of Rathbone's nasally one. THE BLIND BANKER After a great opening show, the next one is usually a letdown. Same here. All too familiar whodunnit with more action than intellectual challenges. Somewhat like Spielberg's vision of YOUNG SHERLOCK -- owing more to INDIANA JONES then Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I give it THE GREAT GAME In quality, halfway between PINK and BANKER. The whodunnits done against the clock were pretty interesting (except -- who would mistake that painting for a Vermeer?!! -- and it's solution was really unconvincing). But the framework crime leading to the revelation of... Jim?! Really?!! Not really happy with the choice of actor, either. Mark Gatiss would have been a far better choice. If they could just figure out what they did to produce PINK... |

Oh... I didn't look far enuf down the thread list or I would have spotted the episode threads. I guess you can see why I'd never be cast a Sherlock. I'll add a few comments in the episode threads that I didn't have time for when writing my original post. LOL. In a thread on Moriarity's casting at IMDb, here's a comment by someone who is apparently American too:
Like you can tell we're both Americans. |

I think your comments are spot on, John. Apart from one thing: Cumberbatch is good, Rathbone was great, but Jeremy Brett is Holmes

Yep, it was the role the late Jeremy Brett was born to play. |
