Season 2 Episode 1

Holmes and Watson investigate a case of blackmail threatening to topple the monarchy and uncover links with international terrorism, rogue CIA agents and a conspiracy at the heart of government. However, the Baker Street sleuth finds himself involved on a more personal level when he becomes locked in a battle of wits with Irene Adler, a woman who is as cold, ruthless and brilliant as himself. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman return in the award-winning drama, with Lara Pulver (Spooks) and Mark Gatiss (The League of Gentlemen)

Cracking dialogue and characterisation thumbsupsmileyanim.gif Based on A Scandal in Bohemia, which I read about 30+ years ago and can't really remember, but I'm pretty sure it introduced Irene Adler and was about a royal scandal. I'm glad they've brought her into it, cos she was one of Holmes's great challenges (note that she was the Rachel McAdams wub.gif character in the awful Downey/Law movie - the only reason I managed to sit all the way through it laugh.gif ).

Love the way they show Holmes working things out (boomerang, though?? Who the hell could've worked that out?? lmaosmiley.gif ). Loved the ending. Pretty much loved everything about it, except ...

... I'm still not sure about their version of Moriarty, it doesn't work for me eermm.gif

I'm guessing this is why Doctor Who has gone downhill so fast, cos Moffatt is obviously putting all his efforts into this.

They'd better not make a mess of The Hound of the Baskervilles! snooty.gif laugh.gif

Thought it was brilliant. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Nope, I don`t like Moriarty either. snooty.gif

Loved so much of the episode, but in particular ... Sherlock in the sheet in the Palace ! Sherlock rescuing Mrs Hudson and seeing the CIA bloke with anatomical text, and the window bit ! And most of all, Sherlock rescuing Irene Adler from Karachi. lmaosmiley.gif

Loved the explanations ( boomerang ? And the plane full of dead people ? ), though a lot of the titles ( The Speckled Blonde laugh.gif ) passed me by since the dialogue was going at such a cracking rate. smile.gif

Great start, and roll on next week. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Moriarty sounded like a (angry) spoiled child and he was in the middle of a standoff eermm.gif rolleyes.gif (and was the call from Irene Adler? unsure.gif )

Holmes resolving the death mystery (without actually going to the place laugh.gif ) was interesting, telling the police about the CIA wounds and afterward the cop asking how many times did he actually fall from the window laugh.gif , saving Irene Adler in Karachi thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

I thought so - I thought she pointed out to Moriarty that she`d need Sherlock for her plan. ponder.gif

Loved it. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Great dialogue and performances and just plain good fun. smile.gif I also thought it looked pretty good the first series always looked like it was done a bit on the cheap.

Not a fan of Moriaty either although I liked how they got out of the cliffhanger and the ending was very well done as well.

Bit harsh.  ohmy.gif

Sexism and nudity before 9pm - what is the world coming to? no.gif laugh.gif

It's an interesting read, though. I wonder, if the show wasn't limited to three episodes per season, if they'd've played the ending differently, so that Holmes didn't outwit her and then save her. That would've set things up nicely for future encounters. Adler's a recurring character in the books but I wonder if they'll keep bringing her back with such restricted episode numbers shrug.gif

You`d think even Watson would notice Sherlock nipping out to the shops and coming back with a tan. wink.gif
