| A figure from Adama's past returns to haunt him. His return raises questions about why the Cylons launched their initial attack against the Twelve Colonies. |

Well, a slower episode than we've seen of late, but that doesn't mean it's not as good.
Adama's character was well and truly deconstructed in the A story here. Was he responsible for the cylon attacks on the colonies? Was he right in shooting Bulldog down?
"You can't hide from the things that you've done anymore!"
That one phrase describes this episode to a tee. Perfectly scripted, beautifully played by all involved and revealing, in as far as Adama's own personal dynamic.
There was a small b story, where the Cylon's seem to discover what lies beyond death. It seemed like a throwaway couple of minutes, but in retrospect, it will undoubtedly become important as the season continues.
Not as action packed as we've become accustomed to in this 3rd season, but a brilliant episode for other reasons.

I love the fact that no matter how slimey, spineless and clueless Baltar is he always seems to land on his feet. I think his grand contribution to this episode was one shot showing him after a three-in-the-bed session with Number Six and Xena-Cylon
Yes, a change of pace this one, but still asking the big questions. Again, the A-story was very much an examination of Adama, and unsurprisingly his actions were firmly entrenched in shades of grey.
Did Adama's actions aboard the Valkyrie provoke the Cylon attack on the colonies? I doubt it. I think the base assumption/theory that the Cylons were quietly building for war was pretty accurate. Was Adama right to shoot down Bulldog? I think so. His ship was damaged, there was no way he was going to outrun the Cylons. The Valkyrie couldn't go over the Armistice line to get him without being detected, and letting Bulldog and his ship fall into Cylon hands would pretty much have the same result. Plus to that, I doubt Bill would have wanted to leave anyone in the hands of the Cylons.
Great to see Saul focussing on something other than the bottom of his latest bottle for a change

Well that one came totally out of left field
Probably the first stand alone episode of the season, if you can call anything on this series that.
Good to see Carl Lumbly keeping gainfully employed after he was somewhat wasted in Alias' later seasons.
Not a lot else to add really. Eddie Olmos was fantastic again, almost like he's been let off the leash after being held back for so long. And it was good to see Kara and Tigh figuring things out together and saving Adama's life.
The final scene was excellent, two friends who know each other inside out finally burying the hatchet
Oh, and did anyone else think just for a second, when the Raider initially started broadcasting, that the voice said "This is Baltar"?

Must admit, it did sound like that didn't it?
But, I can't think of a better way of getting yourself shot down!

Have to say, I wasn't particularly "moved" by his three-in-a-bed sesh :ermm:
Now if it had been Boomer - er, Athena - and Kara... :naughty:

You're not alone Steve. I was positive it was saying Baltar, so I was a little confused when Carl Lumbley stepped onto Galactica
(and again nice to see him get some work)
Nothing to add, slightly less action packed than it has been recently, but still great. Agreed that it would be very unlikely for Adama to be responsible for the Cylon attack :)

Just in case you're left wondering where BSG is this Friday;

Sci Fi Channel is shifting new episodes of Battlestar Galactica to Sunday nights, the first time the show has moved slots since its 2003 premiere.
The cult hit will make the move on January 21. It will remain in a 10pm slot, going up against fairly powerful broadcast competition in the shape of Brothers and Sisters on ABC and Without A Trace on CBS. However, Sci Fi executive VP of programming Mark Stern told Variety that he expects the show - which has seen a slight drop in ratings compared to its season two run so far - to have an easier time of it on its new night.
"Broadcast and cable networks realized Friday was not such a bad timeslot, so it's not the easy lay-up it once was," he explained.
Sci Fi plans to premiere other shows on Sunday night once football ends in January. |

Didn't anyone get the nagging suspicion that the timeline contradicts what we have heard about in early episodes? I feel sure that Adama was supposed to be on board the Galactica during this time frame?
