Title: The Inside
melian - July 8, 2005 08:10 AM (GMT)
I may be going insane but I couldn't seem to find a thread for this so I thought I'd start one
Just watched the first few episodes of this and I'm quite enjoying it so far  Thanks to Alex for supplying it for me :D
Trouble is I watched 3 episodes last night and now they are all mixed up in my head so I think I better watch them again before I can post anything more specific.
I didn't notice any Buffy references Alex, where were they?
laughitupfuzzball - July 8, 2005 10:09 AM (GMT)
Episode 1 - The New girl in Town
An FBI team specialising in Serial killers take on a new partner after the body of their former colleague is discovered.
Brilliant way to introduce the team, the way they w**k and the nightmare cases that they have to take on.
Gritty story with a great twist, you just know its too easy.
First impressions Rebecca is strong and vunerable at the same time and superbly played. Paul has the teams back - he is the conscience of the group which is quite necessary when w**king with Webb - evil boss.
Not much of Danny or Melody in this ep but we get an idea of how the team works.
Pretty gruesome in parts but fairly compulsive.
Angel Reference - The killer's badge on his overalls - Wolfram Security ;)
laughitupfuzzball - July 8, 2005 10:15 AM (GMT)
 Glad you enjoyed it by the way Karen
Creepy stuff eh :fear:
Episode 2 - Old Wounds
I don't think I saw a reference in this one, I can't remember.
Rebecca putting herself in danger yet again, a pattern here and I did actually believe that it was Webb who engineered it until the end.
Not a team player this girl  her performance again is amazing, I keep thinking I have seen her before but can't place her. Again it concentrates on Paul, Rebecca and Webb with a twisted storyline.
I knew it was the retired cop when they went back to the house but still very dark atmosphere to it.
Edit: I liked the way they eached pitched cases at the start too and that Paul automatically realised that Rebecca was trying to help him get his case.
laughitupfuzzball - July 8, 2005 10:22 AM (GMT)
Episode 3 - Pre-Filer
Really good episode, a serial killer who attacks potential serial killers.
Yuck at the father Roger Comack, defending a would be child molester/potential killer.
Adam Baldwin has a great moment with the kid and the demonstration of how hold an imaginary gun
Rebecca has the right instincts again, because of her past?
The Buffy ref is the title of the show at the movies - Once More With Feeling ;)
Oh and the cat - Angel - where's Angel
Rebecca in danger yet again, :o at Roger driving past the girl at the end  showing that the killer had a point, the police wouldn't do anything until a crime had been commited and by then an innocent life may be taken.
Was it clear cut that he really was the bad guy, tough choice
laughitupfuzzball - July 8, 2005 10:44 AM (GMT)
Spoilers !!!!!!!!!!!
Episode 4 - Everything Nice
Good episode, not as frightening as the others but creepy girl or what.
When she first put on her act in interview room I felt, could she have really done it, a girl that age :o
The whole argument about are people born evil seems to be answered here, yes
 @ Melody trying to climb the treehouse with her fear of heights and then being asked to go back up
Interesting how Webb pits them against each other as a means to get the best out of his team.
Rebecca's instincts on the button again. I don't know why I enjoyed this one but I did.
:ponder:
laughitupfuzzball - July 8, 2005 11:18 AM (GMT)
More Spoilers !!!!
Episode 5 - Loneliest Number
The team slowly bonding, Rebecca freaking out about being part of the group at the restaurant, sweet ending where she finally starts trusting them.
:tear: @ Danny over her in the bath - We are here for you :tear:
So sweet as they rush to her rescue.
Rebecca for once can't fight as paralysed by the drug, I was pretty much shouting at her, don't go alone, no-one knows where you are.
The team learn her secret and are visibly moved however she doesn't wanted to be treated as a victim.
Great stuff, more emotional than previous eps and I'm really starting to feel a lot for the team :)
Ooops edit - Onion Flower

That initial glimpse we get of the dead womans skinned face :x Even more so when you find out that she did it to herself :o I really wasn't expecting that
Special Agent Rebecca Locke is played by Rachel Nichols, here is her
IMDB page, I don't recognise her from anything she's been in  Hope that helps jog your memory :D

:) thanks, haven't seen any of those.
:ponder: maybe its because she is similar to another actress :ponder: she is frelling good anyway

The Inside, its leading lady and Tim Minear got a rather bitchy mention in this week's Guardian Guide :
| QUOTE |
Jonathan Bernstein's Aerial view of America
Saturday July 16, 2005 The Guardian
This summer, American audiences were faced with a tough choice: The Cuteness Of The Lambs or The Silence Of The Buffy. Two competing quirky cop shows. Two willowy blonde leads whose winsome exteriors belie their preternatural gifts for winnowing their way inside the criminal mind. Two departments staffed with cynical, unhelpful male officers clinging to the tried and traditional methods of investigation and females who view the new recruits with suspicion. Kyra Sedgwick expunges years of playing sisters, girlfriends and best pals with her star turn as Brenda the Interrogator in The Closer , the most successful non-HBO cable series since the dawn of time. Sedgwick's having such an obvious ball doing the job that it's churlish to even suggest that she's got her big belated break playing Holly Hunter. I have no evidence to suggest that the creator of The Closer had Hunter in mind when he was piecing together Brenda the Interrogator. But that honeyed southern cadence, that flirty interplay with superior officers, that beyond-sensual love of junk food, that way she has of acting all cutesy and deferential, allowing suspects and fellow investigators to underestimate her so that they'll drop their guards and reveal incriminating information that she can use against them ... well,, I guess that's a little Columbo, as well, but I'm sticking with my unprovable Holly Hunter theory.
I might be on slightly safer ground when it comes to surmising the identity of the actress the creator of Fox's The Inside had in his head when he was piecing together the character traits of the winsome blonde with the all-access pass into the mind of the serial killer. The team of writers mentored by Joss Whedon on Buffy The Vampire Slayer and other parts of the Buffyverse have more distinctive voices, higher profiles and more vocal cult followings than any other writers on any other shows. What they also have is a nasty case of Sarah Michelle Gellar damage. A few months back, I made mention of Point Pleasant, a quickly cancelled Fox show about the devil's daughter, written and produced by an ex-Buffy scribe. Like Buffy, Point Pleasant juxtaposed the wholesome prettiness of its lead actress with the unspeakable horror of her situation. But where Sarah Michelle Gellar was capable of bottomless reserves of wit, spunk and emotion, her demonic surrogate had nothing beyond a peachy complexion. Long-time Whedon right-hand man Tim Minear has ventured down the same road for The Inside. Rachel Nichols, the actress playing Rebecca Locke, the investigator who was abducted as a child and, as a result, can see into the abyss and beyond, is another poreless, porcelain blonde striding with perfect posture into a world of darkness and gore and, again, she's no Sarah Michelle Gellar. Tim Minear's vocal cult following are up in arms at Fox's impending cancellation of his series but they ought to have been bemoaning his failure to come up with a more compelling heroine. |
Ouch ! ;)
For those who have seen it does this sound fair ?
laughitupfuzzball - July 17, 2005 08:05 PM (GMT)
 Not at all, they are clutching at straws just because there is a strong female character in the team who happens to be blonde, thats where the similarity ends.
There can definitely be comparisons drawn with Silence of the Lambs, the character they are talking about is more like Jodie Foster's Clarice although even more complicated.
She is only a cog in the wheel however. I find her quite compelling, not sure why the bad review.
It also deals with serial killers on a weekly basis so there isn't that much room for humour

Fox Prez Steve Liguori admitted he made a big fat boo boo premiering The Inside when he did, and regrets that he didn't premiere it earlier on the hells of 24 or Idol.
Damn straight!
The rest of the episodes WILL air, but that will be it. : ::
Also said the Paula Abdul investigation into Corey Clark IS continuing, but wouldn't comment further.

Moved this thread to the US Drama board. It just looks neater this way :D
laughitupfuzzball - July 29, 2005 09:07 AM (GMT)
Unfortunately Fox didn't broadcast this weeks episode and Tim Minear now thinks that they will only broadcast the last episode next week skipping the rest :tear:
Stupid Fox
They decided a dance show contest thing would get better viewing figures <_<

It's seriously getting to the point now where as soon as you see a show's a Fox property then you realise there's no point in following it. If it's any good it'll get pulled, if it's crap it'll go for seven seasons or more.
There's a new one in development at the moment called Darkside, similar to Lost but set on the dark side of the moon. It's on Fox, I'm really wondering whether to bother or not. Unless it get's CSI numbers Fox will pull it inside five episodes.
F*ckwits

:( I commented on the USDrama board that Tim Minear must be so disheartened, what exactly is the point of making a show on Fox
Doomed before it begins <_<
I hope that show creators try to use other networks instead and then we might get a full series for a change. Maybe Fox should just release DVDs instead of broadcasting half a series
Darkside sounds great but I'm thinking like you that it might end up with the same fate <_<

It just highlights the fact that Fox appear to have learnt nothing from their farcical cancellation of Family Guy. Even further back than that they fail to remember that The X Files wasn't an instant success, it's numbers for it's first season were moderate at best.
It's like Fox is run by a schoolboy mentality; "I want it all and I want it now, or I'm going home and I'm taking my ball with me."
Jae - April 15, 2006 02:50 PM (GMT)
For anyone that hasn't seen it yet it looks like The Inside is being repeated on tuesdays at 10pm from 25th April. I'll probably watch it again.
Outta Sight - April 18, 2006 01:10 PM (GMT)
Excellent finale, I just wish I'd known it was and I'd've appreciated it even more
Web is an evil bastard, isn't he? :lmao: Making them read the transcript where Rebecca describes them all. I'd've loved to have seen where the relationship between her and Paul went :(
Crichton Kicks - April 18, 2006 04:16 PM (GMT)
Can we classify this one as a FFU yet? (Fox F*ck Ups);
Wondering whether it's ready to join the pantheon;
Firefly
Dark Angel
Family Guy
John Doe
Harsh Realm
Killer Instinct
Tru Calling
Wonderfalls
It seems that unless a new show meets with Prison Break-like success initially it's going to get canned. In light of that sentiment I'm amazed Bones has made it to a second season !!
laughitupfuzzball - April 18, 2006 06:01 PM (GMT)
:lmao: I think it does, and I also think FFU is a great name for a thread
Thanks for that info Jae, I missed some of them this time round so that's good news.

Harsh realm£12.99
John Doe was good. Definitely worth a second season IMO. It was one of those shows with a compelling central premise/mystery. When you look at some of the shows that get renewed year in year out these days I'm always amazed when shows like this, or any of the above, get cancelled. Yet more evidence pointing towards the brain-dead television watching masses

Was anyone else watching the repeats on ITV4? For some reason they've taken them off air again, just as I was getting my friend hooked on it  I really wanted to show her the one where Rebecca ends up in the woods, I guess I'll just have to settle for the script now. Any news on a DVD?
