Title: Types of Guys Heroines Always Choose
Jenn - February 1, 2008 07:53 AM (GMT)
In your opinion, what kinds of guys are often the main characters? And what types of guys are usually the "other guy," like the guy who likes the main girl but gets rejected in the end? List some mangas.. okay, nevermind, there's too many.
Well, for me, I think a main character always is "secluded" and he needs someone to "unlock" his heart. Either that, or he's a player. A lot of times, he has some ex girlfriend in his past.. but not always. And of course, they all are hot, smart, and rich. Honestly, every single main character guy in every shoujo manga has AT LEAST one of those qualities, most of them ALL. It gets tiring...
For the "other guy," I notice he's always the friend of the girl and has a nice personality. He's also either hot, smart, or rich, but I guess less than the main guy. I don't know, he's the guy I'd pick in real life.

true, most of the main cahracter guy in the shoujo mangas i read are like that at times. it's either the guy is rich or a hot and popular guy that all the girls like or fight for. then the guys that are low and don't get chosen in the end would be the guys that are either the girl's boyfriend already, a boy that she use to like and was taken away by the main character guy, also he can be the friend of the guy that likes the girl, or is the girl's childhood friend or just a friend. sometimes i feel sorry for guys like those, even in hana yori dango rui gave tsukushi the chance to be in love with him and she still choose to be with tsukasa even though tsukasa has so many problems in his life. i was really mad when she did that though, but i was use to it and forgot about it.

number one would be the cold and 'shy' guy is the number one.. charismatic yet indifferent to any of the people around him.. but somehow always have many friends because despite his cold appearances, he's kind and passionate. those guys always fall for girls who looks at the inner appearance instead.
another one would be the cheerful and active ones.. once they found someone they love, they'd do anything for her.
there's also the active guy who seems to be active on the outside, but inside, it's breaking his heart and feels empty. seemingly more mature when it comes to important issues and can sometimes be an older brother, but in the end, he'd do anything for the important person so he wont lose them ever again.
also, in smutty mangas, the perverted yet awkward types are the ones that the heroines choose in the end.
as for non-typical shoujo mangas such as PGE.. i still dont know what will happen to kyouhei and sunako.. despite the hints being shown that they actually like each other (though in the very, very, very eaaarrrlllieeeesssttttt stage of falling in love).

the shy guys who are cold at first and warms up to the heroine usually gets her.
but there are the smart ones. but they sometimes either are sweet to her but eventually become a sadist in a way. usually inflicting the pain on the heroine makes the guy satisfied. usually "you look so cute when you cry"
the ones who keep bothering the heroine with their pranks, flirts, or questions.
the odd one out can keep her interested. like the one that no one notices or the one with the weirdest hobbies.
or the gang leader/powerful one. ever think that? like can't lose you, cutie boy, honggone, & goong a leader gets the girl.
the principal's son!! like in atashi no mannaka, and Dekiai Paradox.
the school's student council president. he is the smart one that knows the school well and meets the girl and either tortures her or stays sweet towards her.
the lewd guys. the naughty guys who have 83429 girls over them. sometimes are the company's high ranked ones.

they always chose the popular players, that always have tons of girls around them or the scary misfit
unseen_chick007 - February 15, 2008 08:45 AM (GMT)
yeah i agree they always choose the player who have sex with most of the girls at school. ( he a man whore) lol or the guy who hate girl but worst would have to be a guy who already have someone in his heart instead of u, so pretty much he on and off with u, i hate that ..piss me off!!!
nanajecko - February 15, 2008 09:14 AM (GMT)
i love innocence guy because i am more a bad girl. so if i can choose the guy from cutexguy.
Courtnney - February 17, 2008 11:29 PM (GMT)
all the girls in shoujo mangas go for the bad boys types. the ones who enjoy picking on them but the girl is to oblivious to see that he does it for a reason....HE LIKES YOU! but don't worry, if i were an manga girl, i would go for the bad guys too. they are sweet in their own ways but can be really bad too. best of both worlds. :nods: i myself am a little bit of a bad girl and i need someone to keep up with me. so i would pick the bad boy
Jurei - February 18, 2008 03:59 AM (GMT)
The 'bad boy always wins' trend is actually something that drives me nuts in shoujo manga. ^^; Sure, girls (especially of the younger variety) like to romanticise bad boy behaviour, but the truth is that after dating a few bad boys and realizing that their appeal isn't worth being treated like crap, we females very quickly learn to appreciate the good guys we can find. ^^
Witness Hot Gimmick...don't get me wrong, the manga makes for addictive reading and whatnot, but the truth of the matter is that Ryoki's treatment of Hatsumi is plain abusive, whatever the reason. Way too many female readers, however, tend to write it off as being okay because he "loves her"...BAAAAAAAD news bears, that is. >.>
...eh...umm...wow, rant. Ignore and continue as you were, people. ^^;
Sh34k4 - February 18, 2008 04:57 AM (GMT)
Now, I've seen a pretty handsome/overpowering/mysterious male dominance trend in the manga I read. The girls seem to like them.
Hell, I think I'd go for that type myself . . .
mizuhiki - February 19, 2008 05:56 AM (GMT)
Well, there are the guys that are not really into girls or people and the girl opens his heart kind of thing. Or the guy is a player and the girl stops that or something. Those are the most common ones I've read about at least.
jenno - February 19, 2008 11:32 AM (GMT)
i reckon they always pick the ones that start off cold and then warm up and love them. these guys are usually popular, have ever really liked any girl even if they've had many girlfriends before, have a troubled past and are all rounders in school, sport, looks, popularity...you name it.
examples :D :
the guys from:
parfait tic (blonde guy), hana kimi, kou kou debut
or they pick their childhood friends :P

i think the heroines always choose the eviler guy. the one the forced them to do things.
their supposely evil but their actually nice type of guy. :....:
luv_manga - May 1, 2008 04:38 PM (GMT)
Heroines always choose the bad-boys. Those that treat them badly at first. It seems like that is what attracts the heroines to the bad-boys.
saneta - May 1, 2008 05:22 PM (GMT)
there are two types of main guys that 'get the girl'.
the first one is the chivalrous, beautiful, elegant and somewhat cold guy thats way out of her league and suddenly he unexpectedly learns if her existence and slowly realises she's the love of his life. of course there are a lot of characters around, like the friends who think his too good for her and that she's just after his money, or jealous girlfriends who want to date him cos he's the school idol, etc.
the second type is the scary guy. he's brutal and everyone is afraid of him, even the teachers. however, she thinks he's not so scary and he actually has a cute side because she saw him picking up a kitty or something cheesy like that and she approaches him. he ignores her, pushes her away and is ready to have his friends do something horrible to her when he cant help but warm up to her and save her in the last minute. after which he starts being all nice to her and falls deeply in love.
in both cases the main can be smitten by them or can hate them when they actually like her.

Ahh everyone is adding such long relies... making mines look wimpy.. Oh well lol. I didn't exactly read all the other replies yet.. so sorry if this is making things repetitive! :run: Well I think heroines always go for the smart, Class President types at first, then as the story progresses, they start leaning towards the more agressive and rebelious types. I'm pretty sure not ALL heroines are like that.. it's just that the mangas I read always seem similar to one sort or another. :D
debbiejedigirl - May 2, 2008 11:51 AM (GMT)
Well, the main point is they have to be hot! We all love watching those gorgeous bishies :hohoho: As for the type, there's the aggressive, confident, full of himself, "I'll make you my woman" type of guy who's usually the popular boy or a gang leader and treats the girl like crap but when things get ugly he says "I'll protect you". Then there's also the mysterious guy who acts cold and mean but when you look closely you notice he's doing all these little things that go unnoticed to help the girl. And there's the type who's her worst enemy/rival and somehow something happens and they realize they're not really that bad.
As for the other guy, it tends to be her childhood friend who's always been in love with her but never could say it until he sees her with another guy, or the guy's enemy/rival who wants to take away his girl and ends up liking her for real.
There are more types but these are the most basic that come to mind
shia-chan - May 6, 2008 05:26 AM (GMT)
the weak little outcast girl is always saved by the playboy. under some circumstances they decide to spend some kind of alone time together and then they fall in love. always. pretty much
maggi - May 9, 2008 05:25 AM (GMT)
the bad boys always end up getting the girl.
Tista - July 4, 2008 09:15 PM (GMT)
I would say...
there is a guy, a total bishie and player and surounded with
tons of girls
but then [oh wonder] another stupid girl appears but is a very
warm-hearted person, mabye innocent but simple-minded and she
doesn't notice anything...
some kind of weird but that are Mangas i really dispise! xO :D
pinkblossom425 - September 23, 2008 03:50 AM (GMT)
the bad boys always win.. because thats supposed to be "hot" versus the gentle guy who always loses... lesson: in the manga world, passive aggressive fails.
stupidgirls - September 23, 2008 01:32 PM (GMT)
shy, cold guy has been done to death so much that I think I would like any guy who is a polar opposite- yeah, I like jovial playboys- my fave is Kairi Okayasu from Peach Girl..he is SO entertaining not to mention that he cries ..he CRIES! I love guys who cry but arent wimpy..that is something that hasnt been done that..I love guys being vulnerable ...
but there are some cold guys that I like like Hayami in Kodocha because he isnt a dork like many other cold guys nor goes about forcefully..
I like it wen the guy likes the girl first, makes a different approach which has been done but not enough...
ichii - February 1, 2011 05:40 AM (GMT)
The guys the heroine picks are always the "perfect" man who happens to also be a player as well. Throughout the series, you see the heroine getting mistreated and eventually the guy falls for the girl and so on.. all very typical -_-

“Early life conditions and how children are stimulated play a very important role,” he said. “The danger is we will revert back to the mindset of the war on poverty, when poverty was just a matter of income, and giving families more would improve the prospects of their children. If people conclude that, it’s a mistake.”
