You wouldn’t think it but Jonny used to be brilliant at football, that was a while back now and after being in a chair for quite some time, he seems to have lost a bit of the muscle he’d developed playing the game he loved. Jonny used to be quite thick built but as you can imagine, his legs have pretty much lost most – if not all the definition he acquired over the previous months. When it comes to height, Jonny’s actually pretty tall, it’s almost a shame that he can’t stand up and show that off. He’s a scratch under the six-foot marker and although he’s only sixteen, he doesn’t look at all out of proportion given his height to weight ratio. From the waist down, Jonny has little in the way of muscle mass, which is fine seeing as he’ll never get the chance to use it anyway. Luckily for him though, not all the strength in his upper body is gone although the definition of his torso seems to have faded somewhat. He still has strong arms, acquired partly through football and kept up by the fact he has to use them to propel his chair along.
Jonny has perfectly blonde hair of which he is rather proud, so much so that he’s never once considered dying it even though the rest of his family seem to have darker hair than him. Jonny’s hair has an average style to it that wouldn’t look out of place on, well anyone. The front of it is often quite long and styled to the side a little in a smart cut though he favours a more messy approach and just tends to let his hair do just what it wants, simply because in the general scheme of things, he has more pressing things to deal with that his hairdo. When it comes to the rest of the boy’s face, it would be fair to say that not all people would call him gifted when it came to looks. Jonny has thickset lips that are a deep red in colour and tend to draw the eye in. His eyes are an unusual shape and always seem to make him look like he didn’t sleep the night before. Something about the shape of his face often makes him look somehow rather smug though of course, that just happens to be the unfortunate shape of his head. Most people don’t tend to notice Jonny for the simple fact he’s not on their eye level though there are a few people out there who do still seem to appreciate his appearance and how well he manages to take care of his own personal hygiene where other teenagers his age sometimes lack.
When it comes to clothes styles, Jonny isn’t particularly bothered, he likes to think he has no set style which to be honest, is true, the boy will simply wear whatever’s clean and easy to pull on. Because of his disability, trousers are often quite tricky so Jonny can often be seen in loose fitting track suit bottoms with elasticated waist lines or trousers that don’t have skinny legs. The boy’s wardrobe doesn’t have hundreds of clothes in it, which makes his dress code rather repetitive. Most, if not all the shirts have witty comments or patterns of some kind and most of his jumpers tend to be striped. In general Jonny’s pretty much happy to wear whatever people buy for him.
Personality Since the explosion that lost him the use of his legs, Jonny has become a rather quiet guy for the most part, except when he’s trying to get the answer to a question, in which case, it’s often necessary for him to raise his voice as people tend not to notice him otherwise. Jonny is a very thoughtful boy, another trait that has definitely changed within him since the accident. Before he would have done the deed and asked questions later, now it’s totally the opposite, partly because doing deeds has become far more tricky for him. For the most part, Jonny doesn’t mind that people don’t seem to even register his existence, it means he can get things done without being questioned, he can even get away with causing trouble for the simple fact that no one suspects the paralysed guy.
Having said that, Jonny is no troublemaker, he never was and he probably never will be, he can just get away with those tiny little things that others wouldn’t necessarily be able to. When he’s helping his dad out that tends to come in rather handy, going places he probably shouldn’t, is easy, sometimes people even help him through pity which Jonny has gotten used to and in some cases, actually uses to his advantage even though he hates it when people look at him with those ‘that’s so sad’ eyes. When it comes to being around friends, it’s almost like Jonny’s a totally different guy, he opens right up and can be as loud and brash as the rest of his friends, unlike a lot of guys his age, Jonny isn’t in the least bit arrogant, not does he expect people to do things for him just because of his chair, in fact, that’s one of the few things Jonny actually hates. Before the accident Jonny was a very independent guy, immediately after the accident he felt as though he was some kind of baby again and since then he’s been doing his best to take his mind off that aspect by pushing himself and doing as much by himself as he can, however it’s not always that simple and although the boy absolutely hates asking for help, he will occasionally do it when he realises there’s no alternative.
When it comes to levels of intelligence, Jonny isn’t the cleverest boy the world has ever met, even though his swept over hair and unusual face suggest he might be some kind of book geek. Baring that in mind, it comes as no surprise that sport was once Jonny’s only good subject. Obviously now that’s out the window, Jonny has had to turn his hand to other things he never even considered before. Now days, Jonny tends to spend quite a lot of time either reading crime fiction or helping his dad. His schoolwork hasn’t really suffered all that much, in fact there’s been a noticeable increase in his more academic subject though that still doesn’t make him top of the class, or even second for that matter. The History
Character History: Jonny’s story starts even before he was born. His parents Martha and James met purely by chance about five years before Jonny was even born. He has the school he now attends, to thank for that. Martha was a teacher there at the time and James happened to be rather unhappily married with two kids, one of which happened to be a teen tear away, much to the ever-obvious annoyance of his dad. On more than one occasion, James ended up talking with Martha about his eldest son’s behaviour. There was an instant spark there though nothing could be done about it seeing as James was still married and the only excuse he had for seeing the woman was his teenage son who always attended the meetings between his father and his teacher. Of course, as fate would have it, the two would meet outside school. In a bar one night after a particularly long and tedious argument with his soon to be ex-wife, James bumped into Martha, literally bumped into. Her drink went all over her and proved to be the perfect excuse for the two to get talking about something other than James’s unruly son. Little did they know all the way back then, that they would end up married with a child of their own five years after that night.
After a while it became a regular occurrence for the two to meet up for a little more than chatting. James’ divorce from his argumentative wife was a long and arduous process though it didn’t matter because by that point, James had moves out and into a dingy flat of his own where his two children would often visit him, still both unaware of his relationship with their young teacher. Months passed like this with Martha and James hooking up regularly and in total secret. Martha was love stuck from the moment she met the man and didn’t mind keeping it under wraps, at least until his divorce had gone through. After what seemed like an eternity, the divorce was finally complete and James was free to pursue whomever he wanted – which happened to be Martha of course. Telling his existing children this though, would prove easier said than done. Inviting the two of them to his apartment – which he now shared with Martha, James worked out how he planned to tell the two children that he’d moved on from their mother before the two of them had even split up. Of course it wasn’t about to turn out how he planned it. The two arrived early and bustled in through the unlocked door to see Martha and James kissing in the open plan kitchen. In their disgust they left and no sooner had they slammed the door behind them, were they ringing their mother to tell them exactly what they’d seen.
Of course that didn’t stop Martha and James, they were already too involved with one another to stop now. Of course the mother of James’s existing children immediately decided that their children shouldn’t see James and after little convincing, she wiped them away to live with her and her parents who received them on the other side of Manhattan with open arms. Of course James knew where they’d gone but in truth, it was almost like a weight had been lifted, he could now get on with his life with Martha without the restrictions of his existing children and ex-wife.
Finally the time came when James and Martha decided to have a family of their own, and so Jonathon Maxwell Robinson was born, the only child of Martha and James. Martha was much younger and this was her first child and so for her it was quite a scary experience when she went into the delivery room of the hospital. For James it was just like the previous two until Jonny actually started to cry, it must have been the first and last time the grown man had cried in years! As Jonny grew up, his parents doted on his every word. James seemed happy his newest child wasn’t turning out like the other two – whom Jonny will never get to learn about, and Martha was pleased that her son seemed healthy. Of course Jonny had a pretty average childhood, he’d play with the other kids from his street and do as he was told with the occasional act of disobedience just like every other child.
As soon as Jonny was of the age, he started playing football, at first he didn’t seem to be much good at it, but his determination to get better at it, and the help of his father when times were slow in the office, meant that Jonny soon got better at it, in fact it wasn’t long until the boy began to excel at it and was known through out the school to be, not only the son of one of the teachers but also as one of the best players on the team.
Of course Jonny’s perfect little life couldn’t last forever. A damned meteor decided to come and ruin everything and not in the obvious death way, not it was much worse than that. Jonny didn’t die though he came damned close. The day the huge pile of rock hurtled towards earth, Jonny decided to go with his mates and take pictures of the whole thing, back then he only had a mild interest in photography and only took average pictures though it was meant to be fun more than anything. Jonny hopped out of the car the group of friends had been travelling in, and stood staring up at the sky, little rocks hitting the ground around him as the meteor came hurtling towards the ground, all of a sudden coming out didn’t seem like such a good idea but it was far to late to go back. Jonny was caught for a moment staring up at the sky in awe when he should have been running for his life, his mates were still in the car laughing and calling him back moments before a huge boulder fell from the sky and smashed into a car not for from Jonny, the blast chucked him backwards into the car his friends were in, his spine pretty much snapped and his body lifeless from the waist down. Jonny’s never been the same since. For a while he stayed in a coma in hospital whilst the meteor disappeared, his parents sat beside his bed the whole time. When he finally awoke, it didn’t take him long to realise he probably would never walk again, and it took only a little longer for him to fall into a deep depression which lasted for weeks, which was only made worse when his friend visited him, crying, shocked, anything but helpful.
Of course Jonny knew he’d have to get over it. He took his mind off the whole incident by training himself to deal with every day tasks at home that were now made ten times harder by his new disability. Eventually Jonny was allowed to return to school, that was almost a four weeks ago, even now people still look at him funnily and take pity on him, the wounds have really healed and Jonny’s personality has drastically and to be honest, it’s for the better as well.
