D e m o n sDemons are beings that serve the devil, as stated by Jace Wayland. However, the Shadowhunters use the term "Demon" to describe any being not from their dimension. Greater Demons are an extension of Demons and are far more powerful.
Credit Dhampirs: The name given to the demon motorbikes used mainly by vampire clans. In the past, vampires (who often need to get places fast, especially when the sun is about to rise) rode demon horses (ordinary mortal horses shy away from the touch of vampires and other revenants, and will trample them given the chance.) The horses were fierce, red-eyed, and vanished in daylight. Nowadays, a warlock will trap the demon spirit of one of those horses in a metal casing, turning it into a possessed “demon” motorcycle. These cycles are rumoured to be able to fly or skim the surface of water. Dhampir motorcycles do not function during daylight hours.
‘Junk’ demons: The so-called junk demons live in trash and sewers. They feed off garbage and refuse. Most of them are no bigger than rats, and are often mistaken for them. Occasionally junk demons will grow to an unusually large size, at which point they become dangerous. They lurk inside trash cans, incinerators, dumpsters and compactors waiting to snatch up the unwary and consume them. (It’s best to avoid a bloodstained dumpster lurking at the back of a dark alley; it’s probably a junk demon.) A high-powered hosing down with holy water usually gets rid of them.
Ravener demons:Part alligator and part scorpion, Ravener demons are fierce, ferocious and extremely venomous. They’re hunter-killers: deadly but not very bright. Warlocks often use them as assassins.
Eidolon demons: The name given to any kind of demon that can change its shape. These demons are among the most dangerous as they can move undetected among humans. Shadowhunters have their methods of tracking Eidolon demons, though they usually have to be at pretty close range to find them. Some Eidolon demons have been a part of human society so long that they have all but forgotten their demonic origins.
Anbari demons: Demons who feed off electricity and electrical impulses. They attach themselves to sources of energy and suck them dry. Often they’ll live on or near power plants – Shadowhunters often track them down after noting a surge in electrical use in a certain area. Sometimes they are called “wi-fi demons” as they are wont to attach themselves to a wireless internet and feed off its energy. This may be why your downloads are sometimes so slow.
Drevak demons: Drevak demons are blind and track by hearing and smell. Despite their blindness they’re often used as spies by warlocks and demon masters because their hearing is so good and their memories are eidetic. They are covered in poisonous black spines which they eject from their skin, like porcupines, when attacked. Anyone stuck with a Drevak spine should seek immediate medical attention from a warlock.
Dragonidae: The so-called ‘dragon demons’ are not in fact dragons, but demons who make their homes deep underground in abandoned subway tunnels and unused basements. They are called dragon demons because, like the creatures of myth, they are hoarders of any bright or shiny objects. They collect items dropped onto subway tracks or left in the trash: aluminium foil, old CD players, chunks of metal or jewellery. It’s not uncommon to find burned bones in among their treasures, as Dragonidae demons, though lazy, will kill unprotected humans when they come across them. In appearance they resemble enormous worms with the heads and jaws of sharks.
The Molochi: Molochi demons live off the energy of greed. Most make their homes in the downtown financial area. One of the better-known Molochi demons is Greater Demon Mammon, who lives under the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street. In appearance, he resembles a middle-aged human man in an immaculate white Dolce & Gabbana suit. He carries an iron-topped cane and a silver case in which he keeps his business cards. His face, however, is a hollow circle with no features, as if a tunnel had been drilled straight through it. Mammon’s existence is an open secret among a certain set of Wall Street traders and moneymen. They come to meet with him often. In exchange for stock tips (always accurate) and financial assistance, they give Mammon a piece of their souls. You can always tell those who have had dealings with Mammon by the empty look in their eyes.
