CASTANET ISLAND
Welcome to Light of the Harvest Moon! We are a Harvest Moon based RP forum set on Castanet Island. We have dozens of canon characters from all the games to pick from, but you can always make your own character as well. Feel free to look around our forums and see what insanity the members have been up too.

Slowly, the snow has melted away and the green grass has been poking it's way up. Flowers have begun blooming again, the trees are leafing, and the fish are swimming. However, the entire island is still not at ease. With the continued search for the missing Harvest Sprites, some of the villagers run around frantic worried about what will happen to the island if they don't find all of the sprites. Also, some villagers have noticed that the sea seems...different. Not as gentle as it used to be. However, not that many villagers are worried about it now though. Is it an omen of things to come?

[Sorta lame. xD; Not sure if there's a house on the ranch; I'll edit if not]

He's met a few souls already but so far only one person with a pet. Oh no, this won't do. Tobias thrives on the presence of animals. He wants to learn more about his future patients as well as their owners. This area so far seems like a lot of farming land. Hopefully this means he gets to work with horses quite frequently. That and maybe someone will have a dog for Reaver to befriend. Dressed in his casual garb with dark denim jeans and a cloth vest over a plain tee, Tobias lifts his boots out of the damp trail. Up ahead he can see a structure lined with fencing. Faint calls can be heard from various animals and some are dotted around the property, grazing and lounging. Down at knee-level Reaver watches them with rapt attention. It bothers the dog that these animals are just littered about. He'd much rather herd them but is given no such request from his master and so quietly drifts past the front gate.

Tobias pulls out a home made dog treat from his pocket, offering it to Reaver. The vet always makes organic treats for his dog as well as patients. All depending on their tastes and health status. Reaver's favorite appear to be the "go bananas" treats. Comprised of oats, flour, honey, oil, milk, eggs and banana all baked together, it's safe for dogs. Yet as a treat should be given in moderation. With his pet crunching noisily at the treat Tobias reaches his arms behind his head to tighten his ponytail. Looking around the place he isn't quite sure if anyone even lives here. Well that's disturbing, there are plenty of animals...although there is a house. The man hums in thought as he goes to the smaller building and knocks on the door. In the background Reaver begins to roll around in some dried horse manure quickly while Tobias isn't looking.

Renee had been sorting through the store, trying to make sense of what they had and what they didn't have. Thankfully, she had gotten a few shipments in since last Spring so everything wasn't as low as she thought it would be. Walking around the store with a small notebook in hand, she had the inventory list half way done when she heard a knock at the door. Grateful for a interruption, her hand was beginning to cramp up, she set the notebook and pen back on the table and wiped a few stray strands of hair out of her eyes as she went to open the door.

Renee was a little surprised to find a man, a very tall man with rather interesting a unique features standing before her. Opening the door all the way she stood in front of him with a huge smile and said, "Hi there. Can I help you-"Renee half trailed off, half stopped abruptly when she noticed a rather large white dog rolling in the what looked to be the horse manure. Pointing over the mans shoulder she asked with a small smile on her face, "Would that be your dog our there?"

Glad to have a prompt answer to the door he smiles and bows his head politely. About to speak he hesitates. Would that be your dog over there? Some mild dread and suspicion fills him. That's a line most dog owners can find to be typically common to hear, but usually never end well. Reaver is a hunting sighthound. Hopefully he hadn't found the chickens. Not that the dog would maim the poultry, more or less he'd adopt them. Reaver has a thing for chickens although his master can't figure it out. Tobias slowly turns around, blue and brown eye striking the landscape to find the location of his cherished animal.

This is awesome! Reaver absolutely loves this smell and he has no idea why, but it's magnificent! However his daddy isn't quite as excited. Tobias blinks and lightly smacks his palm on his forehead. "Eugh...yes, that is my--actually no. No. Neeever seen that dog before. Never in my life." he jests lightly as he let's Reaver have his roll. The man knows that scolding Reaver wouldn't be right. Rolling in obscenely smelly things is engraved in any canine's DNA, dating back to wolves. Sometimes rolling is a defense mechanism or a cover up before hunting. Or even just to bring back the smell to their family in order to seek out whatever it was, claiming it for themselves. With a light sigh he sharply claps his hands to get the hound's attention. "Reaver! Reaver, here boy! Come!"

Legs flailing in the air the grinning dog scrambles to sit up. With one paw raised like a pointer he stares at his master and lopes over, prepared to jump on the farmer. Tobias quickly raises his hand. "Stay." Reaver freezes at the command, several feet away from the pair. With a light whine he sits on his rump before lazily rotating his head to scratch his ruff with his hind leg. Understanding he should give them distance the animal sighs and lies down. Some dark spots are smeared on his coat, making him slightly dingy. Thankfully the manure was days old.

Tobias faces the woman again and rubs the back of his neck. "Sorry about that...he's ah...very excited to be in a new place.", his mind trails for a second before he comes to realize why he wound up here in the first place, "My name is Tobias, I'm an veterinarian. I've come here just to let you be aware of my new services in town. I erm...don't have a clinic. Not yet. Starting fresh here, but I'd be glad to give what aid I can, regarding animal health or not." he doesn't like being idle and prefers to have busy hands. Maybe doing odd jobs around the land will give him some new experiences and connections with the villagers.

Renee couldn't help but laugh as the man denied owning the dog. Honestly, she had been around enough ranches and enough animals, that she was used to them rolling the random piles lying in the middle of the fields. She just didn't know what he would think, however his joking manner soon assured her.

As he apologized Renee gave him another smile as she bent down to the dog offering her hand to him. "There's nothing to apologize for. Reaver was just doing what he though he should. Weren't you Reaver?" She directed the statement toward Reaver giving him a smile as she said this.

Standing up and facing the man again, she listened as he introduced himself. A veterinarian? That was great! The island certainly needed one of them, sometimes any other vets got to the island to late to do much of anything. "It's nice to meet you Tobias, I'm Renee Hayden." She held out her hand as she introduced her own self. Then stepping back a little so she wasn't blocking the door, "Do you want to come in for a moment? That way we don't have to stand here in the middle of the doorway."

Reaver perks his silky ears and crawls forth, tail wagging as he sniffs Renee's hand, thusly licking from her wrist to her fingertips. His soft eyes blink merrily as he noses the woman's palm before relaxing on the lawn. Tobias is glad the woman didn't seem phased by his pet's action. It would surprise him if she didn't since she seems well versed to roughing it on a ranch. Taking her hand his long fingers easily glove around her knuckles as he shakes civilly. "Nice to meet you, Renee. And yes, thank you." releasing her small hand he enters the house and feels at home. Ranches have always been honest places and remind him of his parents.

Tobias glances outside through the doorway to Reaver but the dog seems content lounging in the yard. With a light shrug of his shoulders, which makes him look even taller for a split second, Tobias removes his pack and nestles it into a corner. "This place is very inviting...I can tell you've put a lot of hard work and care into it." he compliments, easing down on a wooden chair in the room. Tobias' head nearly scraped the ceiling in this room. He doesn't want to overwhelm Renee with his height after all and feels that being seated is more polite for a guest as opposed to loitering around.

The man's deft fingers nimbly unravel the hair tie of his ponytail. More like a horsetail with how long it is. Resting his powerful legs on the ground it'd be easy to call the man a horse himself. Tall, long and well built to survive. Tobias oddly remembers dressing as a centaur for Halloween once. It was the first and last time he'd appear shirtless in public. Crossing a leg over the other his hands let his hair drift down in layers around his shoulders. "Renee, I'd love to be able to visit with your animals if you'd be comfortable with that. I want to know the basic condition of the animals on the island. In return I'd be more than happy to do work for you around your ranch."

He realizes this could be unnerving, trying to allow a total stranger such things. Yet that fear is for the city. Not here in this utopia. Tobias is getting attached very swiftly to the island and can't imagine himself living anywhere else.

Renee let him step in first and followed shortly after him, leaving the door open. The spring sun and air would make the house feel a whole lot less stuffy, and plus she wasn't sure if Reaver was the type to panic if he couldn't see Tobias. "Thank you." She replied with a smile while walking over to a nearby table. She grabbed the notebook and pen that she had been using for inventory and put them away behind the counter, better safe than sorry. "It's certainly one of the oldest properties on the island, not that all the buildings don't have their age."

As listened to his request, she couldn't fight the feeling of happiness that was spreading through her. An actual vet on the island that wouldn't take a week to come to the island to check on the animals. They had lost a few here and there when the vets couldn't get out because of a storm of complications and whatnot. "Oh it's no problem! And you don't have to do any work around here, believe me having a vet close on the island will me repayment enough." She waved of his offer with a good-natured smile. "I'll warn you though, we only have a few animals as of now. Last Spring we had to unfortunately sell a good majority of the livestock to keep us afloat. Thankfully they just went to other farms. As of right now there are four cows Bessie, Agatha, Holly, and Fran, two horses, Ginger and Racer, and a coop full of about five chickens, Sunnie, Polly, Rachel, Pon, and Tori."
