CASTANET ISLAND
Welcome to Light of the Harvest Moon! We are a Harvest Moon based RP forum set on Castanet Island. We have dozens of canon characters from all the games to pick from, but you can always make your own character as well. Feel free to look around our forums and see what insanity the members have been up too.

Slowly, the snow has melted away and the green grass has been poking it's way up. Flowers have begun blooming again, the trees are leafing, and the fish are swimming. However, the entire island is still not at ease. With the continued search for the missing Harvest Sprites, some of the villagers run around frantic worried about what will happen to the island if they don't find all of the sprites. Also, some villagers have noticed that the sea seems...different. Not as gentle as it used to be. However, not that many villagers are worried about it now though. Is it an omen of things to come?

Cliff liked churches; a lot. When he was in there, he felt at peace and knew that if he folded his hands and thought deeply, the Harvest God and Goddess would hear him. Yet he wasn't at church, and instead, by the Goddess Springs. He knew where the Church was in Castanet, but something lured him into the springs. Was it the mysterious feeling you got when you took gentle steps towards the water, getting shrouded by the mist around it? Or was it the acceleration of his heart beats that gave a sign of spiritual power? Whatever it was, a pleasant smile always slipped onto his face when he was in the mist, pretending to glide through it with his arms wide open. It was silly of him to do such a thing, yet happiness made you do some of the most humorous things, and that's how he felt. But once he reached the edge of the quaint pond, he plopped down beside it, looking at his reflection with a small grin.

His eyes closed, and concentration showed by the look on his face. The grin disappeared, being replaced with a straight face, although is eyebrows furrowed a bit. But it wasn't because of anger, but for the look of focus. And as he changed his sitting position to one where his legs crossed each other, he placed his elbows on his knees and folded his hands together. It was time to pray. Cliff wanted peace and quiet, and if he couldn't get that during this special time, well.. he didn't really have anything planned for an 'or else' sort of thing. Yet something would happen. Maybe.

Serenity, quiet, calm, focus, a gentleness no words could describe, that was what Alisa felt when she was at any Goddess Spring. She hoped with all her heart that Castanet had one as well, she felt out of touch recently, and after wandering around for a little while, she finally found it. And to her surprise, it seemed much more Goddess-like than the pond back on Sunny Island. The tall grass leading towards the brick steps that lead into the downwards dip and then finally, the pond itself. The Goddess Tree was also a sight to see, but it too, like the island, appeared dry and withered, lifeless. Alisa could only hope the Goddess herself was safe.

As she made her way slowly down the brick steps, she was taking in the sights so much that she almost lost her balance and fell into the shallow water around the pathway. Thankfully, she managed to catch herself just in time and only get one foot and the hem of her dress wet. She shook her foot a little bit to get the excess water off and bent down to wring the water out of her dress. Alisa honestly wasn't too worried or upset about her dress because the heat and humidity would probably dry them off for her before she even left the pond. The priestess continued her way along the path, making sure to pay more attention to her immediate surroundings this time, and made her way up the brick steps.

The little patch of land was beautiful and Alisa couldn't help but smile and feel a sense of peace wash over her as she stepped on land. She sighed with relief as she stepped forward towards the pond. Alisa smiled again, looked around, and quickly covered her mouth as a short gasp came out. There was someone praying here, and SHE was disturbing them! She bit her lower lip as she began to back away, but her foot got caught on what felt like a root of some sort, which sent the priestess falling to the ground. She thankfully, managed to catch herself with her arms so she landed in a sitting position, but she had let out another small gasp, and then a slight "ow" after she had fallen. Great, now she had certainly disturbed this person's prayer time. Goddess, why now? She silently asking titling her head toward the Goddess tree, searching for some sort of answer.

FEELING: SURPRISED, SLIGHTLY WORRIED
WHERE: GODDESS SPRING, BY THE EDGE OF THE SPRING
DATE: SUMMER 8TH
WEATHER: CLEAR, HOT

Concentration was what heated the air at the moment. Although it really should be a calm presence by the water, Cliff thought deeply.. a little too much. Perhaps it was the stress of seeing not too many villagers, or maybe he really needed something.. which tied up with the "lack of villagers." Another possibility could be the heat, yet the outfit he wore was suitable for this type of weather, although the fur hanging by his collar wasn't the most fitting. At least it was better than his other outfit, which consisted of a jacket. Not very summer-like, was it? Otherwise, he still focused on his prayers to the Harvest God and Goddess, eventually ceasing his thoughts after a few minutes. He was done, and although he would usually leave because he was finished, he decided to stay for the moment. The moment of peace and quiet, the event where the mist that was hovering over the area would sink into his skin, cooling it down slowly yet gently. It was a good feeling, and to let himself get more relaxed, he decided to lay down his back on the trimmed grass, letting everything soak in. The fresh air, the cool air, everything that could possibly give him a good rest. It's not like anyone else came around here, right? Simply agreeing with that thought, he closed his blue eyes and--

Gasp!

Hmm? His ears perked up like a dog's, trying to listen to more noises. But nothing came. Probably the wind, or a furry little creature running around in the midst of him. Personally, he didn't mind, and it was just a tiny little yelp of sorts. Although the possibility of it being a human.. seemed pretty likely. The thought slightly disturbed him, but he decided to let his guard down and continue to keep his eyes closed, his head resting in the palms on his two hands. But as he was about to smile, the ends of his mouth reacted to another sound, which was like something snapping, and another gasp, louder than the other one. He could feel himself slightly frown, but instead of yelling, he decided to take the usual calm route. It wasn't like him to get mad, or yell at anyone. It just wasn't him.

As his eyes opened up, he immediately used his smooth flexibility and stood up in an instant, trying to sense where the noise came from. Jerking his head to the side, he saw a woman with hair of a curious hue, sitting on the ground. Being observant, he noticed a broken root on the grassy floor, which was probably the reason why the girl yelped. Probably tripped, he thought, thinking his "investigation" of the scene was pretty accurate. His eyes continued to shift around, looking at the girl's fair-skinned face. She seemed to be facing the Goddess tree a little, probably thinking of something. You could just tell by the look of her face; well, maybe. Because he was in such a generous and nice mood, yet also surprised by this "sneak attack," he decided to ask if she was alright. Plus, he was in front of the God and Goddess, so you had to look as nice as you can; not to say this little thing was an act.

Standing up with the push of his palms towards the ground, he lifted himself up with the weight he gave himself, and jumped on his feet. Cliff lost his balance a little, but he managed to get himself up safe and sound, which was actually quite unusual. He was a klutz, yet he somehow managed to save himself from embarrassment. That is, until he started to walk. As he started to approach the girl steadily, he suddenly tripped on another root forming in the ground, causing him to fall right beside her, face first. Gosh, this was such a usual routine when he fell, always landing on his face. It made him ponder about how he didn't manage to get a nosebleed. Although it was a more fortunate thought, not a negative one. Despite how it sounded. Even though he would usually remain in this strange position, he decided to pick himself up, since his last experience with sticking in a position like that didn't turn out so well. Plus, he was supposed to ask her if she was okay, right? Well, it was time to simply ask, and walk away if he needed to.

In swift motions, he picked himself off the ground, sitting down on the grass. Although talking meant you had to look at the person you interacted with, he seemed to be a little embarrassed with the whole situation still. Instead, he looked away slightly, his eyes scrolling about. A slightly heavy blush was on his face, beginning to heat away as he spoke with his hand behind his head. "U-uh.. a-are you.." he said, taking a deep gulp. "..o-okay..!?" As he finished off his stuttered question, he seemed to break a little at the end, perhaps too embarrassed for his own good. Man, the things he got himself into.

While Alisa was worried about her own well-being as well, she was more concerned with the young man at the moment. Especially after the little display she had just seen. She couldn't help her eyes widening at his first almost fall, and then she also gave another gasp at his second fall. There seemed to be roots precariously forming at the worst places, which probably would cause more injuries sooner or later. But, Alisa felt it would be sacrilegious to damage the Goddess Tree in anyway, at least without consulting her about it first.

Alisa bit her lower lip as she watched the man for any sign of movement, and finally she saw him get up into a sitting position. He began talking to her, but Alisa noticed that he did not make eye contact while speaking to her. Was how she looked when she was speaking to new people? Both her mother and Nathan always told her that she had a bad habit of never looking someone directly in the eye when talking to them, but she had honestly never noticed it before. However, the young priestess had always been able to feel her face heat up slightly because of her shyness.

His body language at least indicated that he was just as nervous and embarrassed as she was, so that at least made things a little less awkward between the two fallers. "Y-yes, I'm fine." she started out saying, but then she quickly added, "But what a-about you? I'm more w-worried after the fall you took there, and I interrupted your prayers. I'm so very s-sorry!" Alisa said the last part in kind of a rush, not intending to apologize right away, but it seemed her mouth had faster ideas than her head at the moment.

Cliff slightly regretted being in this situation. He was always stuck in the most awkward places with an awkward person. Although that awkward one was mostly him and the other person he was conversing with was trying to create some positive chatter, there was still an odd presence in the air because of it. The girl beside him fell, gasping as she did, which she seemed to do constantly, then him tripping when he attempted to ask her is she was okay and to help her up. Of course, his plan had failed, although asking her if thing's were okay seemed to be accomplished. But still, this was not what he expected, but at the same time, he wasn't surprised. He knew he was a major klutz, so why be so shocked? Still, he was blushing, which might have indicated that he was not used to it still. But not shocked either. And that was a little confusing.

Just then, he heard her response, which made him sigh in relief. Thank goddess, now his little, and they were very little, worries were gone. But he still couldn't bother to look at her because of the heat still burning in his face. Or well, the exterior still looking red, but the interior not exactly burning. He didn't want her to get the wrong idea, but thinking about it was unusual already. Feeling a little more embarrassed as he pondered about this whole thing, his face started to turn into dark shades of pink, making him hold his face so that it could disappear. Hopefully it would help; he needed it right now since she started to speak again.

"But what a-about you? I'm more w-worried after the fall you took there, and I interrupted your prayers. I'm so very s-sorry!"

His prayers? Oh yeah, she did gasp a little while ago, before that fall, but he was finished his prayers, wasn't he? Well, either way, he was alright, and since she did seem so worried, plus, he still had to answer questions, he had to respond. It was the nice thing to do, and he was nice. So.. nice answers and a nice guy meant more niceness! ..Strange way to put it. [color=chocolate]"I-I'm o-okay.."[/colo] Cliff said, still looking away and cupping his cheeks with his palms.

Well, thank Goddess they were both okay. And from the looks of him, the man didn't appear to be angry at Alisa for interrupting him, she either figured he had finished or he just hadn't started yet, so it made the young woman feel a little better than she had before. She bit her lip as they both sat in the silence for a few moments, not quiet sure what to say next. They both seemed nervous and didn't have a strong suit in speaking so she did the only thing she was good at. She prayed. Alisa prayed to the Goddess for anything to make this encounter a little less awkward and maybe even strike up a conversation. And while she was praying, she suddenly realized her conversation piece was right in front of her. "The G-goddess Tree is a sad sight right now, isn't i-it?" She asked quietly, starting up at the once magnificent tree with a sad look. "I would have l-liked to see it when it was strong and full of l-life."

NOTE: IT'S OKAY! IT'S BETTER THAN SUCKY.. WHICH IS WHAT THIS POST IS.. AGAIN. D:

This was how all of his meetings with anyone started, always continuing like it. Awkward tension, shaky hands, and the less movement in mouths between the people who conversed. Or well, that could have mostly been him, and the person with him attempting to mimic what he was doing so things would be a little less peculiar. But still, that would just make everything worse. Yet by the look of things, it seemed like she wasn't doing anything of the like, but instead, was being herself. Shy and nervous, just like Cliff was. But once she spoke, he doubt that thought and had to think he was more shy than this odd haired girl. Plus, what she said definitely caught his interest, and if he were to introduce a topic, it would probably be a boring one. "The G-goddess Tree is a sad sight right now, isn't i-it? I would have l-liked to see it when it was strong and full of l-life." His ears perked up like a dog's, and he faced her curiously. What a strange topic to talk about, but it was thoughtful and intriguing. A distant smile on his lips, he nodded, then sighed as he looked at the mossy and slightly wrecked tree.

"Y-yeah.. i-it would h-have been nice.." Cliff said, finally facing her after giving the Goddess tree a good look. It actually made him sad now that she mentioned it. His love for the Goddess and God was strong, so obviously things like this weren't the best things to see if you were such a fan. And questioning his concern meant questioning his religious beliefs! And since she asked such a question with a strong statement, he had to ponder that she also believed in the Harvest God and Goddesses. That was something they at least had in common; and that would be a good thing.

Alisa couldn't help but feel a rush of relief as the young man agreed with her, she couldn't even begin to think of what she might have done if he had said something cruel or mean about the Harvest Goddess or her tree. So, that at least made things a little less awkward right now. "You are a b-believer then." she said to him, not taking her eyes of off the Goddess Tree. It seemed that just by looking at it, even while it was slowly losing it's power and dying, it was giving her the courage to carry on this conversation. It made her feel a little happier inside, like she was actually doing something right at the time when she needed to do something right.

Right then, Alisa realized that the two were still sitting on the ground and she couldn't help but let out a little laugh. She covered her mouth with the back of her hand as it quickly died down and then she quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, I just find it a little funny that both of us are still just sitting down right now." Alright, it was an odd thing to find funny, but this was still a pretty awkward situation, and it sort of eased Alisa tensions. But only by a little.

Cliff continued to feel a nervous tension within him, although he was unsure if that also came between them. But so far, things weren't as quiet as they usually were, and quaint smiles were exchanged between them. Perhaps this meeting would go much better than he would think, or perhaps pondering about that jinxed this whole thing. Either way, he wasn't some fortune teller, so he definitely wasn't sure about it. Just as unsure feelings were mixed onto his face, although it was mostly hinted in his eyes and eyebrows, the girl spoke again. "You are a b-believer then." At first, he was confused with what she was saying. A believer of what? But as he thought about it more, he finally understood what she meant. And when he did realize it, he felt a little dumb-founded by how he didn't get it in the first place. Cliff truly was a believer of the Harvest God and Goddess, though. They were the ones that helped him throughout life, so how could you not be sacred to them? Thinking about it, the girl must have been too! Or, she could have been noting about the rotten tree before them to make some interesting chatter. Curious about this, he decided to ask, since talking about all of this did give him an interesting nerve inside. "Y-you are t-too.. r-right?"

Immediately after his question, stifled laughter filled the air. His eyebrows furrowed, and his head tilted to the side. Was his question so funny? He didn't think so, and when she explained why she had laughed, he still didn't get it. Sitting was a comfortable way to talk, and it was more relaxing than standing up. You didn't have to keep on balancing yourself with your feet! But since it made her giggle, he assumed she wanted to stand up rather than sit. Sighing softly to himself, he picked himself up from the ground and stood in front of her, giving her a hand to clasp on so it would be easier for her to stand up. Unless this was all just a trick and she was just joking.. oh, how he hoped that wasn't her intentions.

Alisa became a little concerned when he stood up, oh she had offended him in some horrible manner she was sure of it! The laughing, she had laughed at an inappropriate moment, she was positive of that. And she thought this one meeting had been going decent for her. A little river of relief ran through her though as the man offered her his hand, she took it gratefully and stood back up on her feet, brushing her skirt off and she did. "I a-apologize," she started hoping to make amends with him, "I did mean to offend you in any way with my laughing. It just s-sometimes happens in...w-well these s-situations." Alisa hadn't wanted to throw the word awkward in there, because what if this wasn't awkward for him? That would have just made things even MORE awkward.

Alisa smiled at him though hoping this moment could just be forgotten, "W-why don't w-we...um, s-start over?" She extended her hand towards him, "I'm Alisa, the p-priestess a-at the church."

As he waited for the woman to reach out for his hand, he wondered if she would respond to his question about if she was a believer of the Harvest God and Goddess or not. It was an idiotic question, now that he thought about it. She definitely was, just by how innocent she looked, and her statement of him being one, which she was correct with. Still, his thoughts about her were slightly gloomy due to her random outburst of giggles of them sitting down, making him confused with what was so funny. Nonetheless, it was too late to sit back down now. Plus, she had just grasped onto his hand, pushing herself up to stand on her feet. As she let go of his hand, he watched her movement, which was just her fluffing her skirt, and was surprised when she spoke. "I a-apologize, I didn't mean to offend you in any way with my laughing. It just s-sometimes happens in...w-well these s-situations."

Nodding, he looked at her with a dull expression in his blue eyes, saying, "O-oh.. w-well.. I-I get into a-a lot of t-things like t-this.." He had to admit it, awkward meetings were his thing. Not exactly the best thing to admit, but it was no lie. Yet once she gave a sincere and gentle smile, he felt a slight blush sprawl across his face, since he didn't expect her to come back so readily. And in response, he smiled slightly, thinking that this moment must be different. When she extended her hand, he shook it almost immediately, introducing himself shortly. "..Cliff." There really wasn't much to say, and that's how he would leave it off. There was Cliff for you.

It's n-nice to meet you Cliff." Alisa said letting go of his hand. He at least appeared a little more comfortable and relaxed now, he smile seemed to reveal that much. Cliff seemed to be a lot more nervous that she was, if that was possible. Normally, she was the one who needed the extra push in the conversation, the one who gave the one word short answers that no one could really continue the conversation with, but now, she was the one who was attempting to continue the conversation. Whether it was the Goddess Tree, the Goddess Pond, or maybe even just the situation the two were in right now, Alisa knew it was for some reason, and she would keep pushing.

"H-how long have you been on the i-island?" She asked, hoping to open up a more natural topic.

As they let the grasp of their hands go, she stated that it was nice to meet him. Was that really true? They didn't exactly start off very well, but then again, they seemed to be just fine now. So,. perhaps she wasn't fibbing about that, and he couldn't help but agree with a reassuring nod. The quaint smile on his lips remained, and she seemed less nervous now. Although he was still full of it, and even swear seared down the side of his face. Immediately wiping that off, his smile was toned down again, his smile almost disappearing from his face. If she asked, he could just say it's pretty hot... after all, it is the Summer and it is pretty humid down here at the Springs, what, with all the mist hovering over the place.

"H-how long have you been on the i-island?" Alisa inquired, attempting to keep up the conversation. He, on the other hand, was just nodding and giving short responses, and felt a little guilty that she had to carry this chat. They were both alike in so many ways, but she seemed more courageous, and had more of a will to continue talking. Maybe they weren't that much alike, but still... perhaps he should return the favor? "J-just a s-season... b-but it sort of feels... l-long? U-um... how long have y-you been h-here... o-on this i-island?" He responded, giving a slight attempt to carry on the conversation by asking her the same thing back. Well, that was at least... something, right?

Only a season? They were more alike now, even it was something small. "I've o-only been here about a s-season as well. I came m-mid Spring, from another i-island a little ways f-from here." Most people hadn't heard of Sunny Island, her previous home, just like this island. When she had told villagers she was going to Castanet Island for a period of time, they had no idea there was even an island near theirs that was called that. Maybe that was part of why the island was doing so poorly, people just didn't know it existed.

This island was akin to the Goddess in that respect. Most people didn't know of her existence, or they denied it. Both broke Alisa's heart. It was an increasingly difficult task in this day and age to convince people that there was even a higher power, let alone a Goddess that they wouldn't be alive without. With most people, they didn't acknowledge that there was a mystery a sort of romance to life, and that was where the Goddess came it. At least, that was a part of was Alisa thought the Goddess was, an answer to life's mysteries.

Cliff nodded with intent as she responded, making him notice that they had much more in common than he had thought. They both came in the Spring, and that concluded they were both here for a season or so, due to the current date being Summer. And plus, they both seemed on the shy and stuttering type, although he seemed to be providing more of those traits. As his thoughts wandered about, the conversation stopping at this point, something popped in his mind. An island nearby...? Alisa, a priestess at the church...? It was starting to come together, and finally, he solved what was up. He... he knew who she was.

"A-Alisa..." he started off, a little hesitant in his words. She looked the same, she reacted the same, she is the same. "I-I... I know you... f-from Sunny I-Islands... A-Alisa Barnes..." There, he had said it all. Cliff once visited Sunny Islands, so it was no surprise he knew the priestess there, being the believer he was. But it utterly surprised him that he would see her here... but then again, the church was pretty enchanting, and plus, these Goddess Springs had something new, something great. Now knowing that he actually did know her for some time, a smile couldn't be helped but rise up on his face. The size was quaint, but still, it was a smile.
