An article I found recently, from the Nashua Telegraph: http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/apps/pbcs.d...EWS01/309249987I drove by here on my way back from orientation at my new job on Monday, and took a look through the gate at the old train station and all that. (Didn't go in-at 35, my fence climbing days are over. ) I will check it out again next week. Hopefully they don't fence off the shoe before I get to see it.

| QUOTE | Town officials resolve Benson Park dispute Lowell Sun, October 14, 2009, by John Collins
... Selectmen voted 3-2 last week to hold an open house at Benson Park on Oct. 24 and 25, and to wait at least until next spring to permanently open the park to the public. The split decision represented a reversal of a 4-0 vote the board took on Sept. 22 to order the Benson Committee to choose a date in October to permanently open the park. ...
Eventually, Jasper persuaded a majority of the Board to stick to the Benson Committee's previously announced plan to host a "soft opening" of Benson Park on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 24 and 25, when they will offer tours of the property, and solicit volunteer help for future cleanup activities, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"This will be your opportunity to walk and view approximately 50 acres of the 165-acre park and learn about plans for its future," states the flyer that Benson Committee members posted around town this week.
Benson Committee members and guides wearing name tags will be stationed throughout the park "to discuss volunteer opportunities for people who would like to sign up and help make Benson Park a reality," the flyer states. "Take advantage of this opportunity to see the very early stages of Benson Park as it begins to evolve into the remarkable asset it will be for our town."
The parking entrance for the open house will be the swing-gate along Kimball Hill Road. "Restrooms will not be available," the flyer warns. |

| QUOTE (mrceagle @ Oct 16 2009, 12:07 AM) | I'll bring it up.
actually there are train clubs in teh area that might be interested. i also know a person that restores and leases trains on a profit share. if a carousel could be build to found that could be doable. but the land can't be used for anything commercial. so the attraction woudl need to be run no profit. |
Ain't no such thing as 'Nonprofit'-nothing in this world gets done, unless someone somewhere's making a buck.

| QUOTE | New Benson Park will reopen to public May 29 Lowell Sun, April 26, 2010, by John Collins
Fans of Hudson history should mark May 29 on their calendars.
That's the date selectmen and the Benson Park Committee have set for the official opening of Benson Park to the public.
It should be noted that the soon-to-be reopened park has been renamed "Benson" -- without the apostrophe-S, Selectman Shawn Jasper said, "because the park doesn't belong to (John) Benson or any other private owner anymore. It now belongs to the public, for the enjoyment of all."
That includes local, New Hampshire or out-of-state residents, Jasper added. "Anybody who wants to use it."
The Memorial Day weekend opening will fulfill an accessibility requirement that the town accepted as a condition when it purchased the 150-acre site from the state in January 2009 for the bargain price of $188,000, Jasper said.
"There will be no hoopla on May 29, but we consider it a real opening," he said. "The public can use it from that day forward."
A more formal grand opening and dedication ceremony will likely take place in September, according to Jasper, who is the selectmen's liaison to the Benson Park Committee.... |
