This topic is for speculation about possible changes for the Pickaxe Pub food stand and menu. It was posted in another topic that: | QUOTE | | There is a rumor that St. 12 (PickAxe Pub) may get a new menu for '09. (Now that they built Hot Dog Diner-st. 19) |
So what could the new menu be?
- Maybe giant, smoked turkey legs? It's an amusement/fair food that seems to be missing at Canobie. Plus, because they are previously pre-cooked and simply warmed, they would be easy to serve. - Perhaps some Native American frybread? However, Canobie is already saturated with fried dough, and I think that Poncho Cantina might already serve fried dough with taco fixings on top. - How about big bowls of chili? Different varieties might include: bowl of red, chili con carne, and Cincinnati 5-way chili. - Kettle corn. - Or, perhaps Canobie could try the Chinese food idea again. It could be a Deadwood-themed shantytown restaurant. (Mr. Wu's Pig Stand?) - Giant, fried onion blossoms. - I think that a food stand serving breakfast food all day would be a hit. How about giant stacks of flapjacks?

You here to post about the park or just to nag other users? I was typing in all caps because I was EXCITED about the idea! No need to get your panties in a bunch!

sorry to wake up this old thread...
if they didn't already, they should go back to the original 1987 corn dogs. That way they could also do Cheese on a Stick.

Actually, Deep Fried Fun was in 2002 and sold fried twinkies, fried snickers and fried jelly rolls.

| QUOTE (Ben James Ben @ Oct 6 2009, 10:04 AM) | The Pickaxe Pub still serves corn dogs:
Were the corn dogs back in the 80s made in the stand, with actual batter? The corn dogs today come frozen and are fried to order. Fried cheese on a stick sounds good. However, Canobie already tried a "deep fried food" stand back in the early 2000s. It was called "Deep Fried Fun" and was located where Cafe D'Or stands now.
[Edit: it was the 2000s, not the 90s!] |
yep, made in the stand. You mixed the batter up (mix + water), shoved hte skewer into the dog, then dipped. I think we had rigged some sort of holder for the fryolators. Cheese on a Stick was real thing - block of Swiss, skewered, and fried. I think there was a third thing...should have been a pickle but wasn't. The batter was surprisingly tasty. I would love Cheese on a Stick right now.
Where did the hot dogs come from? The old ones from Catering! Hotel pans full of grilled dogs from buffet lines earlier in the day would come up via Cushmann...we'd use those before we broke into the 'raw' ones.
This was when the Haunted Mine first opened and that strip of games and food was new. Marriott didn't really know what to do with it...the stand was totally off the beaten path. I misspoke earlier, it was actually the 1988 season.
