Description: Ride addition

mrceagle - December 4, 2005 01:02 AM (GMT)
Seens the Classic section expantion is still on hold and that one of the Whalom rides will be added to the Oceans of fun area.

The flying Skooters are refurbed and repainted and will be added to the park with the name Flying fish

Take a look for yourself on there site.

gardener14 - December 4, 2005 01:30 AM (GMT)
That's a great addition to the park, and one of my favorite classic rides. Thank you for pointing it out.

James - December 4, 2005 09:07 AM (GMT)
Woo! Guess ill have to go back next year

James - December 4, 2005 12:40 PM (GMT)

Ya that image was under the rides listing. I was doing a count and the park now has 21 rides, 3 shows, and 6 other attractons. that gives them 30 all together. at 22 bucks that's quite a value.

James - December 4, 2005 10:17 PM (GMT)
But they dont have long hours. They dont even have lights in the park! lol

I really think if SL keeps adding new rides... And SLOWLY adds a few "bigger" rides it could be the next Holiday World. I mean.. they started off the same way and now have "world class" rides. Even rides like a swinging ship or something would be a bigger thrill ride but still something that can be done as a family.

mrceagle - December 5, 2005 04:34 AM (GMT)
They won't get anythign they can't run with a 36 in hihgt. that seems to be there Adult rides requirment. But a good wood coaster woudl be great for them. Whaloms Comet had a 36 in hight requirment. I woudl also like to see a couple dark rides added. I miss there old one.

I think they can get as big as Holiday world but I don't think they will stray from teh family set up and add anything overly thrilling.

I know the park wants to add a bumper car arena and they still have the Whip from whalom to set up.

I also wouldn't mind seeign a few transport rides. a long sky ride up the hill side at the back of the park. A monorail, Around the world in 80 days. they already have many countrys representad at the park.

Ben James Ben - February 20, 2006 04:36 PM (GMT)
Storyland updated their web site with news about the Flying Fish ride. Apparently, the ride has already been installed and tested.

Sky Rider - February 21, 2006 01:28 PM (GMT)
Looks fun!

mrceagle - February 22, 2006 09:49 PM (GMT)
Question is what will they be instaling in the Classic park area to fill the now empty spot.

What do you mean by this? What is the "classic park area" and what empty spot are you referring to? According to StoryLand, Flying Fish is located where the Whirling Whales were, and Whirling Whales have moved to near the Sandcastle Maze.

mrceagle - February 25, 2006 05:35 AM (GMT)
Behind the Seas are and to the right of the farm area they have cleared and smothed an area around 2.5-3 acres. Acording to park statments made during an ace event and at other events they plan to open up that area witha posible Classic park(old Kennywood) theme. Thats were the park would instal a bumper car pavilion and the Whip. at the time they talked to use they planed to instalng the Flying skooters in that area as well.

So now they are one atraction short of there prosented plan. But at that Time Haritage was still going to stay open as well.

James - February 25, 2006 04:01 PM (GMT)
In the newest Amusement Today they have 4 or 5 big photos of the ride testing in the winter with snow on the ground.

mrceagle - February 25, 2006 06:33 PM (GMT)
Nice I'll have to check that out.

gardener14 - June 26, 2006 02:29 AM (GMT)
Mrceagle, are you sure the flying fish ride came from Whalom Park? I saw it for the first time Saturday, and the ride's support structure sure looked like a new model, exactly like the one at Hersheypark. I assume if it came from Whalom then it would be an older model and that it would look more like the structures at Canobie or Lake Compounce.

Anyway, the Flying Fish was in the Oceans of Fun area but set back far to the right of the Turtle Twirl. It not only adds a ride to that area, but it expands the area greatly. The ride has a covered queue and had a long line when I saw it at 5 pm. The Whirling Whales ride has a new permanent home with a new queue and fencing next to the sand castle maze, and it looks nice there. It looked like a temporary carnival ride where it used to be, but now it fits the park nicely. There was a cute and colorful fish statue in the center of the ride that wasn't there last time I saw the ride.

James - June 26, 2006 10:58 AM (GMT)
Ok.. Now I have to ask this..
Is it a good cycle?
And can you snap?

Im going to try and make a weekend run up to Storyland in July and also hit heritage one last time.

mrceagle - June 26, 2006 06:14 PM (GMT)
From what I was told by the park and by Alisson Bowen the Scooters are from Whalom. The park did state that ther was some problems with the ride and some parts wodu been to be refurbed. They may have opted to get a new suport structure of they may have built one inhouse. as for the Scooters at Hershey they are Premeir and the ride needs a 50ft ride area.

gardener14 - June 26, 2006 09:11 PM (GMT)
James, I don't know, I didn't ride, but like the Turltle Twirl and tea cups, the Flying Fish seemed to be running a bit slower than it would at other parks. It is Story Land after all, and I agree with them running flat rides at a speed appropriate for young children.

I was there primarily to visit Heritage, NH during it's final year. Many subtle changes have occurred since my last visit in the mid/late 90's. I'm glad I got to experience it once more, but I can see how they decided to close. It would need some major investments to keep up with the times and technology. I did get to ride a Segway Scooter, and that was fun.

Mrceagle. I have no proof, but from observing the Flying Fish, I'd be willing to bet that it's a new or mostly new ride. I don't know manufacturers or models, but it had the solid cylindrical support structure, not the triangular one, and it had a high profile. It looked just like Hersheypark's model to me, but what do I know?

mrceagle - June 27, 2006 12:39 AM (GMT)
At least you have seen it. Ihavn't had a chance to get out to The park yet.

James - August 2, 2006 07:32 PM (GMT)

Thanks for the photos, James.

How does Story Land's Flying Fish compare with Canobie's Rowdy Roosters (fast but hobbled) or Lake Compounce's American Flyers (unhobbled but slow)? I'm talking about the ride's snapability.

mrceagle - August 2, 2006 10:27 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the pics. Well those are definitely not Whaloms Scooters. I'm really curious what they are planing to do with them. they do own them. They need to put a box around that Support looks really plain.

James - August 2, 2006 10:35 PM (GMT)
The ride runs somewhat fast but you still cant snap them.. I almost got one snap.. But then the ride ended.. If I rerode it I might have got it snapping but the line got long after I rode it.
I would say its better then both LCs and Canobies.

freddy freemeal - August 3, 2006 05:56 AM (GMT)
Those scooters look like Larsons, but without the four panels, surrounding the center pole. With out lights they look a little naked, but I do realize that they are only geared for day light operation. Mrceagle, please let us know if you find out anything on Whaloms Scooters.

SoulessCorpse - August 3, 2006 06:27 AM (GMT)
Ya those are def not whaloms Scooters, thats too bad because those were by far the best scooters around. Could snap them so well one time they stopped the ride and made me exit, because i was making the structure shake due to the buckling cable lol

Those where the days...

None of Storylands rides have lights on them they dont even have lights on the midways because the park is never open when its dark out.

mrceagle - August 3, 2006 01:20 PM (GMT)
Some of the midways have lights but only a few. It's true they don't stay open at light in fact they close at 6:00. while they open at 9:00 much earlier then other parks. The hours are set up to suit families needless to say.

I will try to find out about Whaloms Scooters when I go. I'll also try an E-mail but responses are not always given. The web site for the park dose state that they are Larsons.

To be nitpicky, I believe the Great Balloon Chase has lights.

mrceagle - August 4, 2006 01:05 AM (GMT)
Yes it dose So dose Crazy barn.

I think the area will look better in time I don't see them keeping aluminum Fencing in the sea area. Hopefully they will install a back drop and perhaps paint the walkway.

I was just commenting that the ride looked a little naked without lights, nothing more. But just but if they were opened later that would brighten up that corner of the world. The area seems to roll up the side walks at 6pm, if your staying in the area there is really not much to do in the evening. They have had great success so far and I'm sure they would not nor will not change that.

gardener14 - August 4, 2006 11:25 PM (GMT)
I was careful to say I "believe" Great Ballon Chase has lights because I wasn't entirely sure if the new ride had them or not while I was certain the old did. The old Great Balloon Chase had lights, and I always thought it was such a waste not to be able to use them since the lights were there but the park wasn't open at night. When they replaced the ride a few years ago, the new model apparently is lightless. Thanks for the confirmation.

mrceagle - August 5, 2006 01:06 AM (GMT)
I must have been thinking of the old one also. Surprisingly in a reversal of Situations The Dino area in Animal Kingdom that added has allot of lights and the park closed at like 7 in the afternoon.

I think story land has a few days they are open till 7. Santa's villages rides most of them have lights and they only operate at Christmas.
