Title: Nightmare New England/Spooky World
rollercstrpro - August 16, 2009 03:56 PM (GMT)
I stopped at mels the other day (I'm a sucker for their go-karts!) and it looked as thought they have already started their Halloween project. I spoke to an employee who told me that they have hired some of the top names in Haunted houses to build out and run their Halloween event.
He said the Spookyworld haunted houses will be very very scary this year! The employees have been told that this is NOT the spookyworld of the past and will be as intense as Nightmare was.......got me excited!
I visited Nightmare New england last year and it was definitely one of the best haunted houses i have ever been to! Very scary and great outside DARK atmosphere.
This is from the nightmare website
"Nightmare New England & the legendary SpookyWorld unite to deliver one of the largest, most terrifying Halloween Scream Parks in the country!

What part did you find intriguing? I didn't see anything in the original post that was new or noteworthy to me.

Back from yet another go-kart fix at Mels and things are in FULL SWING for Halloween.
They are starting to separate the driving range with huge black sheets, saw a ton of huge tents, lots of semis, and truckloads of gory things being moved around.
They are really driving the point home with constant ads on their sound systems.
Seems like this will end up being one hell of a halloween event!
Now I am really looking forward to October!

this morning on rock 101s morning show - Greg and the Morning Buzz- the owners of Nightmare New England made the "surprise announcement" that they were combining with Spooky World. They said they had "bought spooky world last year" and talked about some of the new haunts they are building for this year and how they are trying to get it back to what spooky world was in Berlin. They also had a clown (named Pissa the Clown) come in and scare the bejeezus out of Greg. (supposedly theirs a video, but i cant find it on their website yet)

There was a classic car show in downtown Manchester here this weekend. I was really excited to see the Spooky World/Nightmare New England hearse!
Guess what was next to it? They brought The Last Ride with them! I made a couple videos, and couldn't wait to share with you guys since a few people were curious what the ride does & what it's about. Well, here you go!
This is the first one - missed the first 30 seconds, but you can see the video monitor really good in this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBKMsVke1WYI think this will be a nice addition to Canobie's Screeemfest! :D

Interestingly, it appears that NNE/SW is still trying to hire scare actors. I thought that they would have already been fully-staffed by now.

My experience at Victorian Park was that people start to 'disappear' after even the first weekend.
Cars break down, people work for one weekend and decide its not for them, etc. We once even had an incident where a room was left empty with a costume and mask thrown on the floor-the actor just threw the costume off and left.
A lot of people think that getting a job at a haunted house means basically screwing around for money, and then bail when they realize there actually IS some work involved. (Its mostly the younger high school kids that do that.)
I know nothing about Nightmare New England or what they're like to work for, so I don't dare hypothesize about that. But I will say it can be tough for any employer to get the commitment from people for a 4 weekend job, especially when weekends are 'party time' for a lot of people.
And that, I'd say, is probably why Nightmare is still looking for help.

Thanks for the info. Though I find it a bit saddening there is such a lack of dedication.

The thing is, you'd think that in a bad economy, people would grab any job they could. I don't get it.

Spooky World designer’s work brings fears to life Boston Herald, August 27, 2010, by Donna Goodison
... Located at Mel’s Funway Park in Litchfield, N.H., Spooky World has three new attractions this year - The Colony, Catacombs and Torment - and its four others have been redesigned.
Torment is a museum based on fears and phobias.
“You’ll go into scenes that are overrun with rats and mice and another room that squeezes you for people who are claustrophobic,” Krausert said. “And there’s a room that actually shocks you for people who are afraid of electricity. Hopefully we’re able to scare each person in a group with something different.”
Krausert helps hire the 160 actors who man his attractions. Spooky World is hiring 350 workers overall, and the majority of applications - up almost 30 percent this year - are for acting roles. ... |
