SIX FLAGS NEW ENGLAND Seeks Taller Thrill Rides
AGAWAM,MA (AP) 8/1/08
The rides may be getting more extreme at Six Flags New England. City officals in Agawam are considering a zoning change that would allow the amusement park to build roller coasters and other rides up to 200 feet in height. Under current rules, the park must obtain a special permit to construct any ride exceeding 45 feet. The park's president, Larry Litton, says the most popular thrill rides around the world average about 190 feet in height.

Superman is only 208ft tall. The drop is 221 using a tunnel. Nitro is only 230. thing is the 190 statement is about an average not a specific number for anything in the park. This is Superman is the only attraction at SFNE over 200ft.
Thing is 200ft rides are very costly and SFI isn't investing in very costly attractions. The local news is simply taking liberty with the header.

That's a very easy assumption to make. they will always like any park still operating get an attraction. but unless you have inside information you have no real clue how big the attraction really is.

well lets look at the clues. First, sfne is trying to raise thier "no red tape" restriction to 200ft. Second, they just failed to make a ride and probably want to make up for it. Third, they said atan ACE preservation conference that something was coming that ACE members would like. ACE means American Coaster Enthusiasts. And since all members of that joined for their love of coasters, they would like it if sfne got a coaster. Not a thrill ride not a kiddie coaster, a big thrilling coaster.

You should stop and think before you post and make yourself out to be a jerk. i know what ACE is I'm a member. have been for some time. Guess what the same Ace will really like it term was used to hint the upcoming X2 make over. SFNE and SFI doesn't care about making up anything as long as money is coming in. Listen to the conference call and Shapiro talks about how Large scale attraction aren't practical investment because you can't split up the investments well.
one of the biggest complaints by both guests and ACE members in Mind eraser and how painful it is. ACE members were thrilled about the new restraint system for Morey's pear. they would be equally thrilled about the new restraint system especially f it was teamed up with the new 4 across trains.
as for the height variance that is as much the local Mayer as it is SFNE. they didn't spearhead this plan. It's to built really any medium scale ride without having to jump through hoops. The 200ft allowance doesn't mean crap.
Your insistence on a new coaster is taking speculation to a whole new level. you've gone from throwing out possibilities to out right dreaming.
Thrillride93 - August 7, 2008 12:42 AM (GMT)
i think most people would still be thrilled with a new coaster similar to the dark knight

It's called a wild mouse and It's not getting the best reviews.
Thrillride93 - August 7, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
still 99% of people dont read the reviews and would go there for the new coaster

Go yes return no! The ride is nothing special It's simply there. SFNE will never get another indoor attraction. even if the city approves the variance They would still need to meet the very strict fire cods of Ma.

Thats true and they need a good coaster to compliment superman because right now batman is the next big roller coaster and its not even that big

dont tell me im dreaming im just taking clues and applying them to come up with an idea. Also, i didnt know you were on sfneonline forums too.

I am on many forums. I'm an admin on a couple of them. I don't mind that you have an idea of what they might get. but the 200ft clue isn't really a clue. since it is a city thing that is supported by the park. The park didn't go to the Mayer and say we want this. Also a pre designed wood coaster or steel coaster would likely have trouble with existing space. A new designed coaster would have to have been started a while ago.

I didn't think that this Info. that I found from the Newspaper would have brought so much talk. I wrote it word for word from the newspaper. I just figured that "you people" would have liked to know what the City of Agawam and Six Flags was considering. If you read the info. again, it says that they are considering a "zoning change". It just means that they won't have to approach the City of Agawam for a permit for building anything under 200 feet in height, that's all. :)
