Title: Salem Willows

Ben James Ben - August 29, 2004 03:52 AM (GMT)
I just saw a commercial for the Salem Willows while watching Patriots Fifth Quarter. I wasn't aware that this park existed. It's in Salem, Massachusetts. It appears that they have a carousel and a himalaya. It also appears that they have a Zoltan fortune telling machine, a DDR Extreme, and a Mad Wave Motion Theater,

P.S. Chunky's Pelham movie theater also has a Mad Wave Motion Theater.

I love Salem because im a Goth but Salem Willows is not an amusement park at all.

James - August 30, 2004 10:16 PM (GMT)
no its not its just a few aracedsa and some rides and then a beach and a wealking park... but if you read the signs around the walking park you can see that it used to be much more and at one time was a real aamusement park and had a real midway

Mr. Hot Shoot - August 30, 2004 11:39 PM (GMT)

Since I posted on Saturday, the Salem Willows has put up a page of photos:

Since I last posted two days ago, the Salem Willows web site has added online restaurant menus for Genghis Salem, Cappy's Seafood, Ocean View House of Pizza, and E. W. Hobbs. It looks like the Willows is undertaking a major marketing campaign right now-- strange, since it's towards the end of the season.

I plan to visit the Salem Willows tomorrow. I'll post photos. I'm also trying to find another nearby park/arcade to add to my trip, but most appear to be in touristy/beachy locales and I'm trying to avoid the holiday crowds.

if you go on a hot summer weekend you have to get to the parking lot as soon as you can because it fills up.. but you can drive right onto the grassy hill..
all it is... is 2 arcades a few different places with 2 or 3 rides and then mini golf and a beach. lol

Wipeout65 - September 20, 2004 01:52 PM (GMT)
I used to work at the Willows. But I didnt make money. So I had to quit.

Salem Willows was quite a place back int he 70's and early 80's. They had the best Tilt a Whirl I ever rode! also a mini kiddie coaster, a kiddie helicopters, a wonderful old wooden carousel, and way back, a whip, dogems, and a dark ride. There was also a mini train that circled the place. In the now willows casino, there was the whip and a train, and way down towards the best popcorn in the world(my opinion) was the dark ride(next to the last chineese place)
There is a kiddie wet boats there as well as a mini golf. I spnt many nights there as a kid!

James - January 10, 2005 05:42 PM (GMT)
My mom had told me about the whip ride. thats what made me want to go.. but.. its long gone.
Salem Willows had a coaster? i never knew that. i looked around online in the past for more info on the willows.. but didnt see anything about a coaster.

NHDEN - January 10, 2005 11:02 PM (GMT)
I do recall a standard kiddie coaster at Salem Willows YEARS AGO.
The last time I visitied Salem Willows most of the rides that I remember in the park area were gone... I believe my last visit was in the late 80's... The Carousel, and Boats were there... Not much more that I remember.. Perhaps they have re-vitalized it a bit.

mrceagle - January 11, 2005 12:44 AM (GMT)
it's a same it's not a full blown park any more. I would liek to have a park in MA other then SFNE.

CoasterCraig325 - January 11, 2005 02:23 AM (GMT)
SFNE is the lone park now in Massachusetts now that Whalom is gone :(

mrceagle - January 12, 2005 03:41 PM (GMT)
Well untile The law suits clear with Whalomit's not completly gone. We can always hope.

But some day hopefully some one will build a new park in MA. I would say the same for NH as well.

Ben James Ben - March 26, 2005 04:17 AM (GMT)
According to this DDR Freak thread, the Salem Willows Park arcades will be open on weekends, starting March 27, 2005.

Also, replying to an earlier post that SFNE is the only park in Massachusetts, I would include Salem Willows Park and Edaville USA as two other parks (though it is true that they don't have very many rides).

James - March 26, 2005 04:20 AM (GMT)
I would call Edaville and Salem Willows as parks. but not the way SFNE s a park.

mrceagle - March 26, 2005 05:05 AM (GMT)
The thing I was getign at is if your goign to cal those two parks then you need to call Funworld a park.

The thing is their not set up to be parks. teh rides are mearly a bonuse. it woudl be liek me setign up a few rides at a flea market. it's the same thing but I'm not a park.

In the group of posted pictures in photo 24, you will see a family at a picnic table . The grassy lot in the picture looks like where the tilt, kid coaster, etc. was set up. The carousel looks as though at one time it was a grand ride. Now if you check it out closly the animals look to be from different builders. The Theel Mfg. CWParker copy really stands out. I also remember the dark ride (see photo labeled great midway) FM

Phobia - July 27, 2006 10:01 PM (GMT)
Last time I went they had this sweet simulator ride.

mrceagle - July 27, 2006 11:42 PM (GMT)
It dose sound like a nice place.

freddy freemeal - July 28, 2006 03:45 AM (GMT)
I remember that simulator in one of the arcades. I think it was the one with the kiddie himalaya. The last time I was there I couldn't find it. If the weather holds out I'll be making a visit tomorrow evening. Tryed last weekend but it had rained so hard that the turn around loop was flooded, so most of the places were closed or closing.

mrceagle - July 28, 2006 03:25 PM (GMT)
Well you'll need to grace us with a trip report on the places condition. the web site isn't very helpful.

freddy freemeal - July 29, 2006 04:50 AM (GMT)
Got rained out again, so as far as I know we'll try again for next Friday. I'd be happy to do some sort of trip report, when I do visit. As a few of us that have been there have tried to point out it not really that much now but it's still something. Being what it is a park is what it has to be called, though it's not in the same park catagoryas Canobie or SFNE. Funworld still I'm afraid would be listed as a family fun center.

Ferret - July 29, 2006 05:24 PM (GMT)
im going to be in Salem on sun for something esle, if i can ill drive up to teh Willows and see whats up and get some pics

freddy freemeal - July 30, 2006 04:41 AM (GMT)
Ferret thank you for covering, if you can make it to Salem Willows that would be excellent, as I won't be able to get there for about a week or two. (the social life is doing me in) Thanks again FM
