CoasterCraig325 - August 11, 2006 05:43 PM (GMT)
I heard these plans from a family member who manages the burger king across the street....... that Water Country will be sold to Six Flags Inc. within the next year. I didnt really believe her at first but yesturday I talked to my Uncle who manages the wallmart in the next plaza from water country and he confirmed these rumors. They plan to buyout the rundown shopping plaza ajacent to watercountry and the waterpark. They will begin construction within the next year and take over water country at the close of this season. It has been a deal long in the making, they just have not gone public yet. My aunt has been close to the water country owners for many years, and they have been very good to our family providing us with free tickets every year for the past 10 years. Im sad to see them sell the park. But if its going to bring another major amusement park to our area, im all for it.

James - August 11, 2006 05:51 PM (GMT)
I really dont see SF picking it up.. But I do see watercountry being for sale as Palace Entertainment was going under.(people who own WC)

corkscrew16 - August 12, 2006 12:42 AM (GMT)
It can't be ture, can it? If it is true i'm also all for it. Do you know if SF is going to keep it as only a waterpark or are they going to make it a amusment park with free waterpark like SFNE?

CoasterCraig325 - August 12, 2006 01:30 AM (GMT)
From what ive heard they plan to built an amusement park in the ajacent plaza. They have already surveyed the land and should happen maybe as soon as the season ends.

SoulessCorpse - August 12, 2006 02:02 AM (GMT)
Wow i look forward to this.

corkscrew16 - August 12, 2006 02:03 AM (GMT)
Thats awesome!!! :D I hope they have some big rides. Is there an idea of how long it will take for it to be completed and will water country be open during it's consturction? Someone should send this rumor to Screamscape.

coastermaniac123 - August 12, 2006 02:43 AM (GMT)
With what money would SFI buy this. This is the company who said no big rides for a while and they plan to buy a water park and make it likr SFNE. It just doesn't sound right.

SoulessCorpse - August 12, 2006 03:01 AM (GMT)
Because WC is a cash cow and would bring mucho money in for the company. Specially with a park next to it.

mrceagle - August 12, 2006 03:09 AM (GMT)
This makes no sense. fr many reasons. lets see.

SFi has no money in fact there opting to sell 6 properties 3 or which are water parks. well ones a park/water park but more water park.

Why Build a park so close to SFNE when all you can do is detract from the park you already have

Water Country is already owned by a chain Palace Entertainment.

Palace Entertainment was Bought recently and that Company is looking into some of the SFI parks for sale(my guess is the 3 water parks I mentioned)

On top of that that area is badly Congested with traffic it couldn't handle a major Amusement park on top of water country.

Water Country is the largest water park in New England and larger then many parks in the US. It gets good rating and would be s top notch ride with a couple modern water ride additions.

SFNE is close to water country, but not that close. It's about 150 miles away.

Im just saying what ive heard from some very reliable sources. There has been talk for quite awhile about this, I just didnt believe it until i heard some more "inside" confirmation.

I do believe it COULD be true. This park could cater to Northern New England as well as the Boston Area. It would give Funtown/Spashtown a real run for their money. Come to think of it, I'm surprised Six Flags never considered buying them. There are several large parts in the making here in the North East.. Utopia, Land of Oz, Lake Compounce Expansion, Story Land Expansion and who knows about this one. This could be interesting over the next 5 years or so. C'mon Canobie, give us a new Coaster!

Ben James Ben - August 12, 2006 02:12 PM (GMT)
Financially, it does make sense. Water parks are certain moneymakers.

While Only 150 Miles away with a company that isn't in very good Financial Standing it makes no sense to Open a new park that will compete with a property you have. You better off Offering Hotel and campground. Then add a few secondary attractions. turn the one you have into a destination park that locals that live slightly further away can go to and vacation there.

Your info might not be wrong but Squad. The new owners of Palace Entertainment have a large park background some having worked for Disney. A statement like we plan to build a theme park Similar to SF parks or We plan to Have a park/water park Similar to what is found at many SFi parks. Might have been missunderstude. Leading to the Assumption that SFI was buying it.

While I agree that This would be a park that could cater to north and north eastern New England. Overall it's not needed. Would loos anyone going to SFNE from Boston and ME isn't that populated and area.

As for Funtown. would likely Close it down. Same with York's, and Possibly Old Orchard beach. while Funtown is working hard to keep the park going there not in the best shape Financially having to take out loans to Finance this water park expansion.

Six Flags/Premier Never bought them because they aren't for sale. The family isn't putting the park up on the market. By the way, I also heard that SFI was buying Canobie, Building a new park in Boston, and a park north of NYC to replace DL. You know none of those are happening.

As for the large parks Utopia is planing.
Since when was the OZ project going to be in NE. if they were considering it don't count on it since its failed to be build in 4 other locations. the last location i had heard was NY.

LC is expanding but you won't see the large water park expansion till at least 2009-20010. you might see the park ad a basic family ride in 2008 but nothing costly.

Story Land is Planning an expansion but has put no time frame on it Given their normal Time line it Could be next year but with the removal of the Heritage they may not have the extra money to properly do the expansion. we may see a single ride added if the expansion doesnt happen.

Canobie is looking into a coaster but we need to be patient. Canobie is installing a massive new Entrance in 2007. So the chances of getting 4+ million coaster in 08 is slim. will will likely see a smaller expansion and land work start for a coaster in 2009. But that's just a guess. it might not be installed till 2010. but I would expect to See a coaster by at least that time. The park knows they need it and The guests demand it.

But Canobie, story land, Santa's Village(they have a large scale expansion planed), Funtown will add things as they can. they will not do like SFi and add rides and expand when the money isn't there and put themselves in debt.

Amusement park rumors have been around since the early 90s. The Watercounty site seems like it would be a great candidate. I just wish in wasn't Cookie Cutter Six Flags that is part of the news. As you can see I am no fan of this WALMART ... HOMEDEPOT, type run company. They promise you the world but in the end, break you heart. Rte 1 was the source of this rumors. :(

SoulessCorpse - August 15, 2006 04:45 PM (GMT)
Cant blame them for that, they dont have the money right now to make all the things happen that they want. If this was the management from the get go SFI would be a whole nothing monster.

freddy freemeal - August 15, 2006 05:05 PM (GMT)
This monster seems to be biting off more then it can chew, and one of these days their going to choke. They close parks on one hand, and open or try to take over others with the other. It just doesn't make sense to me, this is why I have no respect for the company that runs them. I remember SFNE for what was there. the heart and soul, of the Carroll family, especally Ed Sr. I realize one should not dwell to long in the past, but that can be hard to do with all the beautiful parks we had in the region, that now we can only read about.

mrceagle - August 17, 2006 02:35 AM (GMT)
I too would have more respect for SFNE if Some of its Old charm was still there. the Boat ride which is not Shipwreck falls, The Black widow I personally thought was better then flashback, and the monorail. If those were there and the new additions added around them and to complement them. a mix of old an new.

SFI as it is today is a new Monster a monster that thinks the parks are Disney level and is willing to charge you for it. that things that every Movie theater in the world are like Those in Hartford, CT costing it's guests much money. I personally can go to a movie for less money per hour including a drink them to SFNE not including a drink.

As for this any Amusement park in that area is a poor choice. I don't know what attandace water Country gets but it's likely not in the millions range. That area dose not need a million a year attraction pulling guests on top of every thing else in the area. Not the lakes region could use a major park and could only hurt a couple small water parks in the area.

freddy freemeal - August 17, 2006 04:43 AM (GMT)
I fondly remember the boat ride, it made you feel like you were in a Disney park The monorail, if Canobie only had one , and the Black Widow a fine shuttle loop in it's own right. Save the carousel they ripped the heart and guts out of the once proud Riverside. Six Flags Riverside had a nice ring to it, they even took that away. To them it's just a business, to us it has become a passion. To be on the Disney scale, they'll have to work allot harder, I'm happy that LC was spared such a fate..... F.M.

mrceagle - August 17, 2006 09:48 PM (GMT)
They will never be Disney Quality. Story land can Claim a Disney like atmosphere and Quality but there still not Disney. SFI parks will never even get to were story land is.

Canobie Coaster - August 21, 2006 10:23 AM (GMT)
Honestly, I don't mind Water Country turning into a Six Flags park because maybe some of Canobie's large crowds would go there instead of Canobie. However, I doubt Six Flags would buy a park right now.

mrceagle - August 22, 2006 02:38 AM (GMT)
Canobie needs the crowds. they need larger addition and need the crowds and the money that come with then to make those expansions.

freddy freemeal - August 22, 2006 04:32 AM (GMT)
What I ment by the boat ride at Riverside giving you a feel of Disney, was the fact that it was jungle themed, with the animated animals and all. Even the crew that worked the attraction was in big white hunter uniforms, it just added to the effect. I think that I have post cards from this ride, as time permits I will post these. :D ......F.M.

mrceagle - August 22, 2006 07:52 PM (GMT)
That must have been before my first trip. the only trip I went to the park and they have that it was simply a boat ride with Fish and plants. still a nice family leisure attraction.
