I’m on the road today, so the update will be short. We still have seven eggs developing in the incubator. The remaining West End eggs are 26, 24, and 22 days into incubation. The two Twin Rocks eggs are now 24 and 21 days into incubation. And finally, the Two Harbors eggs are now 22 and 19 days old.
The Pinnacle Rock and Seal Rocks nests still have their eggs. The Pinnacle Rock eggs are now 27 and 24 days old and the Seal Rocks eggs are 19 and 17 days old. All four eggs have now lasted longer than any eggs ever left in the Catalina nests in the 10 years I’ve been here, which is a promising sign. We also received a sighting this week of K-43 at a reservoir near Fresno, CA. This female hatched from an egg removed from the Two Harbors nest in 2004 and was fostered into the Pinnacle Rock nest. It was last reported at Shasta Lake in January 2006, so it is nice to know she is still alive. Eagle A-32 is still on the island and is seen soaring and/or perching with male K-93 almost every day. A couple days ago I got the following video of the two perching in some pine trees at Thompson Reservoir. ![]() Next week we should be getting close to hatching time for some of the eggs. Keep your fingers crossed. P.S. Thanks for the donations to the Piggy Bank. The total to date is $65.00. |

PETER - Thank you for the great update and video - enjoyed knowing the story and whereabouts of K43. Does look like A-32 has met her man in K-93 when she is ready to mate. Guess he doesn't mind waiting for her to grow up a bit.

Wonderful news about eggs, eagles, sightings, and romance, Dr. Sharpe. It was an interesting sight with the blue wing bling on A32 and the orange wing bling on K93 - contrasting colours instead of matching ones - works for me! One from Santa Cruz and one from Catalina - the eagles are spreading out a bit to find mates! Thank you, Dr. Sharpe, for all the good news.

Hurray for the eggs in the Catalina Nests. I am so so happy to hear about this, it is most promising and a big step for the progress in getting these nest healthy again. It has to be a great feeling for you, keep up the much needed work you are doing, it is making a difference, and I am proud of all of the IWS people.

A-32 has developed a white head since her visit to the SC nest a couple months ago! She's getting closer to maturity, and seems to have found her mate!
Congratulations on maintaining seven viable eggs in the lab! The possibility of having chicks hatch naturally on Catalina is thrilling. Good news like that is very welcome these days. Thanks so much for sharing all this with us. |

What terrific news! Thanks, Dr. Sharpe. I wonder how the eagles decide where to make their home? I know you have told us in the past that they return to their fledging area to establish their breeding territory, but here we have a case of two different islands. So how do they decide? Catalina, Santa Cruz, Catalina, Santa Cruz . . . .

I've been to Pine Flat Dam, fishing. My father, who lives in Sandpoint, ID, used to live in Reedley, 1/2 way between Visalia & Fresno. Nice place for bald eagles, those mountains...
