Dr. Sharpe... Curious to know what you think about the unblinged bird/fledgling/juvie who followed Wray to the nest. As you will note in the video, it seems like it took Wray a moment or two to figure out that this was not one of her own and she strategically flew out of the nest, quickly returned and repeatedly went after this bird until she took it out.

It could be 5Z. There was never a clear shot of the legs to see any bands.

Thank you Dr. Sharpe... If it is "possibly" 5Z, why do you suppose that Wray would try to remove her own from the nest? Both K27 and K24 were on the nest today without a parent trying to get rid of them.

I had to be 5Z; there just aren't any other young, unmarked eaglets in the araea. I mean, IWS and the team would be aware of them. That is just so strange.

Dr. Sharpe it does seem strange to me that Wray would chase 5z off the nest. Is it possible there may have been another nest on one of the other islands? I guess it is just hard to believe that Wray would have chased off her own young.

Dr. Sharpe - if it was Z5, would that indicate the parents are now tryin to discourage the eaglets from coming to the nest and encouraging them to go off on their own? Is this about the time they would do that? I would have thought the parents would feed them for a longer period of time once they fledged.

Without being out there to see everything that is happening before and after an event, it is impossible to say exactly what is happening. The first event a few days ago looked like the adult tried to abort a landing at the nest and both of the birds went off the back of the nest. The most recent one I couldn't tell what was happening.
The adults don't tend to drive off the young of the year, they just leave on their own when they are ready. |

We'll never know "who" it was. It could even be an eagle from the mainland that found its way to the Channel Islands, however remote the chance.
