GOOD MORNING AGAIN CRUZERS!!

A couple more pictures from the Catskills... On my hike the other day scoping out some good drawing spots at North South Lake park, this spot is on the way to Sunset Rock. It is called Artist's Rock and the view is looking east - it is a pretty location.

Here is the view looking north east from Artists' Rock to some small "bumps" in the Catskills.

It is the view that you get when standing in the exact spot of my favorite engraving - these outlined "footsteps" that look like the outline of an old cobbler's tool! The right foot is much more faded, but it's there!

Jeanne - Such a pretty setting for an artist like you to capture the beauty of the area. HartSpin2.gif The footsteps carved into the rock are amazing, I wonder how long they have been there, probably decades.

Yesterday I spent another day through the Catskills driving around with a couple of friends.

First we visited Woodchuck Lodge - the turn-of-the-century summer home of famed naturalist and writer John Burroughs (died in 1921) in Roxbury, NY. It is a rustic home which was visited by several luminaries of the time. Teddy Roosevelt, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Firestone (can't remember first name), John Muir. There was even a seat cover made from a suit Henry Ford had left there! It has a nice view of the mountains and is just down the road from where he grew up.

Then we walked up the road to the location of his "boyhood rock" - a big boulder at the top of a field where he spent much time as a kid - and his grave site, right in front of the rock.

After that, we went back to the tiny town of Roxbury and had lunch at the only cafe in town - but a nice place. The owner was very friendly and told us about the very cool Roxbury Motel with themed rooms just around the corner. So we visited the hotel and were able to see some of the rooms! Very cool and artsy place! There is not much to do nearby, but the hotel sure does have flare! The rooms were being cleaned (which is how we got to see them) so please excuse the lived-in look!

Here's the "Angel Hair" room - themed for Charlie's Angels - can you see the hair is actually 3D and comes out over the bed? The one chair is a big shoe!

And how about the Wizard of Oz room? You walk right in the room and on to the yellow brick road! And poppies in the bathroom! Do you see the ruby shoes and legs? I wonder where they go when the room is made up! Everything in the room is shimmering emerald color! And see the lion's tail over the entrance?

The Flintstones room was quite the cave!

My personal favorite was "Mary Ann's Coconut Cream Pie" room - themed after Gilligan's Island. You walk in and the whole ceiling is dropping with meringue and with a layer of crust all around. There is a coconut and shell "SOS" sign over the round pie bed that has meringue pillows. It even smelled like coconut in there!

There were quite a few that were occupied and we couldn't see - Jetsons, Saturday Night Fever, Star Trek.

Carole I am going to guess the shoe print was done in the 1800s or early 1900s

Good Morning Cruzer Friends.... biggrin.gif

user posted image--while you try to stay cool, calm & collected in the heat wave.

When the sun chased away the fog here yesterday..fog stayed away and now the Sunny.gif was out at dawn here again today...no fog...maybe our summer has arrived her at the coast. biggrin.gif

I so enjoyed your photos JEANNE! Beautiful lush green of the Catskills and the that very imaginitive hotel..how fun! It is very touching that John Burroughs is buried there, at his very own special place, his boyhood rock.

Jeanne, loving all your photos this morning.. you Do know that John Burroughs is related our 'George' ???? Great-Grandparent I believe... George??? I have many photos of Burroughs with his 'rat pack' pals, Roosevelt, Ford, Edison and Muir... they really spent lots of time together.. especially out here in California.. mainly in Yosemite.... I have a paperback titled: 'Camping & Tramping with Roosevelt' by John Burroughs.. its a fun read.. like being with them on their many camping trips.

I'm posting all my posts at once today as it will be a very busy day.. Getting photos ready for fair along with helping the girls make 'fairy gardens' to enter in their category... Also had a 'lasagna party' yesterday to break in my new lasagna pan. I love it because it is so deep. Bobby Flay design through Kohl's. So I haven't been on computer at all... Wednesday, DH is having knee surgery... so he will be out of commission for a few weeks/months. That means he is getting nervous and attending to some business things that need to get done. We have pre-registration at hospital today and another visit with surgeon... Carole, I loved your pictures of your party... a very good friend gave me the same bird book for Christmas!!!! It sits on the night stand next to my bed..excellent reference book and I adore the cover!!!! thumbUp.gif
