Dr. Sharpe -- I have been watching the nests since about 2006. I understand that the female is larger and more aggressive. I also understand this year has been a shortage of fish, especially in the WE area. This is the first time on a nest that I have seen such a dominent eaglet as K27. I understand that the WE nest is different in that there were 3 eaglets and 5z was 4 days younger than K24. The attacks that 5z suffered from K27 have been rather harsh. Now K27 is chasing K24 off the nest; it is not a problem since K24 can fly away. K27 still attacks 5z, however, 5z can defend herself and at the worst case scenario she might fledge early to get away from K27.
Have you ever seen this type of behavior from an eaglet? Is it possible that K27 is more or less defending what she feels is her nest and the sibs are intruding? Just curious. Vickih |

She is just hungry and trying to make sure she survives. This is the first year that I can recall there being an apparent food shortage.
