Thanks for the information on Rattlesnake, Dr. Sharpe. I wasn't sure how often you were able to observe the nest, so thought perhaps they snuck an egg in when you weren't looking. biggrin.gif That does make the difference in size all the more amazing. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

The next set of blood tests have returned and we estimated the sex correctly for 4 of 5 chicks. Both Pelican Harbor chicks are males (we banded A-69 as a female), K-09 (Rattlesnake) is a female, K-96 (Rattlesnake) is a male, and K-95 (Pinnacle Rock) is a female.

Oh Dr. Sharpe!!!... That picture of the Sauces chick is both incredible and hilarious!!! Not sure which is my favorite now between that one and the Trap Canyon chick. Great pictures and I agree with Carole, we're going to need a 2 year calendar... or a book. tongue.gif

Dr Sharpe

I also want to add my congratulations on all those chicks found on Lopez, Middle Ranch, Sauces (felt sure it would be a female not a male) and Trap Canyon. Unimaginable for Lopez to have a chick after 60 years. The photos of the chicks on Sauces were really great so clear.

We were 3 for 3 on the sexes of the next three chicks banded. Lopez Canyon (A-70) is a female and both West End chicks are males. I'll send in the blood for Sauces (A-71) and Cueva (A-72) today, but almost positive they are a female and male, respectively.

We got the sexing results for the Sauces and Cueva chicks on Santa Cruz. It turns out that both are males. We banded the Sauces chick as a female, but it turns out he is just a huge male.
