As you know All Eagles All The Time 2008/2009 is an Archival/History in Videos and Still captures showing the various stages throughout the year in the lives of the Eagles on the Twin Rocks Nest on Catalina Island.
This camera is currently offline, but through the IWS Catalina Updates we have been kept informed re what is happening at this nest. As Dr.Sharpe was unable to go to the mainland to fix the cam they were checking the nest from their only observation spot at Long Point and on February 24th, 2009 it was observed that K-17 was in the incubating position ... their first egg had been laid! On April 8th's Catalina Update we were informed that at least one chick was on the nest So now we have finally reached the most exciting stage .... and this is where we will put the Chicks and their Development stages ... because that leads us into eaglets and fledglings. Once the camera is back online ... any Videos and Stills posted on this thread .. will have been selected .. as their favourites ... by the members who have captured them on Nest Watch. You can see more videos, and still pictures, by visiting the Daily Observations thread. Also known as Nest Watch Again we ask you not to post comments in this thread. VIEWING ONLY PLEASE! This will enable faster viewing by Dr. Peter Sharpe and the IWS Team ... for record purposes .... and also for members and visitors to the forum. Capturers are asked to wait until Cumbrian or EDblue (Eagle Duo) posts the first thread of each day before oosting or reserving a space for your videos and/or captures of the day to keep continuity to the archives. |

CONGRATULATIONS K-33 & K-17 ~ A NEW CHICK!
Wednesday, April 8, 2009 Steff: The TR nest has hatched at least one chick! The TR egg/s hatched right around the time we expected. On Thursday, I watched one of the adults step out of the nest bowl and look between its legs, acting as if something was poking it from underneath, which is common hatching behavior. Pete checked on them on Friday and by then a chick had hatched! I made a short video of the Twin Rocks nest yesterday. Unfortunately, the view of the nest is not the greatest and we will not be able to see the chick/chicks until it/they get a little bigger but we know for sure they have a least one chick; Pete watched a feeding over the weekend. (fingers crossed for twins at TR) ![]() Video by Steff: TR Nest ~ April 7/09 (Pictures courtesy of Dr. Sharpe, Steffani and/or the IWS crew) (Click on thumbnails to see full size) For complete update, pictures and videos, click on the dates |

GREAT NEWS! ~ NOW THERE ARE TWO CHICKS!
Wednesday, April 15, 2009 Steff: Twin Rocks (TR) definitely has two chicks on the nest. I was finally able to see two little heads bobbling next to one of the adults. I took a picture and drew some arrows pointing at the chicks. ![]() Video by Steff: TR: April 11/09 (Pictures courtesy of Dr. Sharpe, Steffani and/or the IWS crew) (Click on thumbnails to see full size) For complete update, pictures and videos, click on the dates |

DEDICATED PARENTS!
Wednesday, April 22, 2009 Steff: We have experienced a couple of exceptionally hot days. Here is a picture of one of the TR Adults so diligently providing shade to their young chicks. ![]() Thursday, April 30, 2009 Steff: I am glad to report that all eight Catalina chicks are doing great, some of them are already starting to grow feathers while the younger ones still wear their ‘fluffy’ all-down-feather plumage. GROWING FAST!
Wednesday, May 6, 2009 ![]() Peter: Things are a bit slow right now before we start banding the birds at the end of the month. Steffani has taken a week off and Stephanie has come down to cover for her and get experience on another island. All 8 chicks in the 5 nests on Catalina are doing well and were checked yesterday We are going to try to work on the Twin Rocks camera this weekend, or at least to get a good look into the nest to see the chicks. Wednesday, May 12, 2009 ![]() Steph: So this week was a very exciting and different week for me. As some of you may know already, Steffani went on vacation to visit her family in Ecuador. I came down from Santa Cruz Island to sit in for her on Catalina. It was a nice change to be down here and help out checking some of the nests. One day, Peter and I headed out to the TR nest to work on the camera and to confirm how many chicks were in the nest. Well our mission was successful. Camera is fixed and we were able to confirm two chicks in the nest. However, the camera may not be online for awhile, but we will be able to check on the nest a lot more efficiently from the island. ![]() Pete fixing the camera ![]() Hiking back up the hill ![]() ...................................K-33 and the two chicks Video by Stephanie: TR Nest: May 9/09 Wednesday, May 27, 2009 ![]() Steff: We have been checking on the nests that are not on the web a few times per week and they are all doing great. ![]() TR nest, two chicks and one adult We will be banding the Twin Rocks chicks on Saturday, May 30/09 (Pictures courtesy of Dr. Sharpe, Steffani and/or the IWS crew) (Click on thumbnails to see full size) For complete update, pictures and videos, click on the dates |
