Thanks for all the support. A successful chapter in the restoration of Santa Cruz Island is coming to a close, marking the beginning of a new a generation of bald eagles on the Channel Islands. We are all excited about the future.
Yesterday, we traveled to the west end of Santa Cruz Island to check on several young eagles. We ran into both A-33 and A-50 in our search. A-33 was released in 2004 and has explored every inch of the Northern Channel Island, now residing on the jagged cliffs of the West End. A-50 was released this past month and has quickly exhibited an adventurous spirit by traveling to the western most point on Santa Cruz Island. The West End is abundant in marine mammal carcasses, shorebirds, and fish, proving to be an ideal environment for bald eagles. The extreme weather conditions are perfect for even the youngest of bald eagles. ![]() Here is a picture of A-50 perched on a bluff overlooking the tumultuous waters of the West End. She had just had a meal as reflected in her bulging crop, and was now resting in the cool ocean breeze. Chris |

Wow, another gorgeous photo! Santa Cruz has so many beautiful areas! Each eaglet seems to be finding its "special place" among them. Thank you for the photo and update. And A50 is a female??? Hmmm? Maybe in five years....

Once again Chris, you have brought the beauty of the area, in which our boy resides, in your photograph for us all to share. Thank you too for your report. It is interesting to hear about the other eaglets who are going to share this lovely part of the world with A-49.
Now then, as cdn-cdn, Cheryl, has noted A-50 is a girl. A-49 is a boy, unconfirmed at present, ....Yup that would work!!!! |
