Hi all,

I spent some time watching A-49 today. He was in a pine tree in the same canyon as the nest tree. I saw him take three short flights back and forth across the canyon. He looked good, strong, and healthy. At one point he landed in the top of a pine tree that had a nice crown. After a while of perching there he laid down and took a little nap! After ~20 minutes he stood up, stretched his wings, scratched his head, and took a big poop. A few minutes later he flew off across the canyon again. I did not see the adults during the time I was there. However, based on the size of the poop I saw A-49 let fly, I'm sure he was fed not too long ago! Another biologist will be spending some time tracking A-49 tomorrow.

Good night,
Jessica

Jessica,

It's soooooo good to hear your report! He sounds like he's doing well and practicing practicing practicing....I think that's what he does best. Does he know he was a star and on TV last night? For the life of me, I can't find him in that photo but I'll take your work for it that he's there. Thanks so much for your hard work and efforts....have a good night.

Peppermint,

Look for the blue tag right in the middle of the photo...he's there. Even looks like he's looking right at us. smile.gif

Hi Jessica,
I was thrilled to see your update this morning and read all the positives about A49! Believe it not, the "poop" report was such a relief (no pun intended). I so envy you - that you actually get to watch him fly. I'm sure you understand why all of us out here in "computerland" who have been watching him from hatchling to fledgling would love to see him soaring in the skies, also. I know one day we will - maybe IWS video.

Please know how much we appreciate all your postings. . . please keep them coming and thank you, again!!!

(In the photo, it does look like he's looking right at us - almost as if to say, "it's cool guys, I'm doing great out here".)

Thanks, Jessica, for the update & all the great work you & your colleagues are doing. It is a thrill to be even just on the sidelines of this event. I love how we all thirst for Nature.

Thank you, Jessica, for the update. Glad to hear he is practicing flying, what a wonderful site to see. You are a lucky lady to be able to witness this close up and in person. I am pulling really hard for this guy, he is truly the hope that is needed out there. Now the little born free in the grasslands will be the next one in what will be a long long line of new eagles in the area. Yippeee!!! The eagles are back. Thanks to crews of people like you, THANK YOU!!

Thanks, Darrell. I thought that was the blue tag but then the more I looked at it the more I thought it was just white flowers or whatever the white stuff is in the photo and then I started seeing faces and figures and arghhhhhhhhh.....so I went to bed.

Computer troubles this a.m.--just saw your great post, Jessica.

Thank you so much for the news and photo! That poop comment is so funny to me. I'm known as the bird POOP watcher with some of my parrot pals. I was so happy to hear your poop report. I'm not worried about him now. biggrin.gif

The blue tags are such a help in finding our guy in these wonderful photos!

~~A-49 is having a good time~~Thank you so much~~
