Hey all,

This shot was taken on banding day (way back in June), just minutes after Jim put him back in the nest. It's from a slightly different angle than the web cam, but I think it might help you picture where A-49 is going when he disappears in the bottom corner of the webcam shot. You can see a nice little platform of sticks in the bottom of this shot. You can also see his new 'off-nest' perch (behind him over his left shoulder). The branch directly over his head is the 'pinecone' brach that we can see on the webcam.

By the way...next year we're hoping to have the webcam mounted in the same location that this shot was taken from. It's about half the distance from the nest, so the video should be even clearer (and hopefully with sound). Nest building/repair could start as early as December, so we won't have too much 'down time' between nesting seasons this year. Let's just hope they use the same tree!

Dave

That is so cool to actually now be able to see where our boy goes to, both down and up. Thank you so much for posting this photo Dave.

Also for the information re the webcam, and the possible dates of the nest building/repair, for next year's nesting season.

Oh that's great! It makes so much sense now. Looks like he has kind of a patio...or is it a deck? No wonder he doesn't want to leave! He's living in multimillion dollar property with a view! If they don't nest in that same tree, will IWS relocate the cam?

Thank you so much Dave for posting this gorgeous photo! wink.gif It continues to put his travels into perspective. Thanks also for filling us in on next year's viewing! I am already excited to watch the entire process all over again. tongue.gif I'll really enjoy watching the parents keep their eggs warm and protected! To think of seeing an egg(s) hatch right in front of my eyes!!?? unsure.gif I don't think I'll be able to handle the looonnngg wait! sad.gif

You mentioned that the eagles will start to tidy up and prepare their nest as early as December. Will the webcam be up and running at that time, or will you wait until thee eggs have been laid? unsure.gif

Dave, thank you for this lovely picture. I remember banding day and seeing Jim take some photos of #49 with his camera after he set him down. Number 49 just had to become brave and feisty enough to use his patio. Thanks again. biggrin.gif

7:05 pm PDT Just got back on, and what a great surprise!!! Thanks, Dave, for the best and clearest shot of him I have seen so far. Even more so, thanks for keeping us up to date as much as possible. This has really been a great experience for me (I had just gotten my computer in May, so the timing was perfect.)

Actually, thanks to all of you. This has been a great past two months!!!

Thanks Dave for the great picture. The 2 pinecone branches make it easy to get oriented. Looks like 49 has a pretty good pad to grow up in!
