That video was really amazing to watch, but I also found it difficult! How painful was it to tag the bird? I saw him flinch - also, the radio transmitter and such. I know it must not interfere with his first flight or you wouldn't do it, but I also wonder if it makes him uncomfortable, the extra weight or if they could get infected from puncturing their skin with thread and such. I am glad that you will watch this baby closely and I am thankful for all you have done to help eagles come back again to this area. You are all wonderful people and I wish I had a job like yours. Thank you.

tongue.gif Thank you everyone! I am at a loss for words! If you knew me, you would fall over right now! laugh.gif Thank you Jim for posting so quickly and I intend to view the video footage as well...even though I watched the whole thing unravel yesterday! I am in awe of the work that this team has done and will continue to do. I certainly hope and pray that we will somehow be able to continue to receive updates on the travels of this amazing bald eagle family...after Lil Bit/Liberty fledges and so forth. Thanks for the background info. re: care of eaglet during tagging and return, nest, full crop and so forth. I saw Jim taking pics up there. I hope he posts them for us at some point too! Thank you all so much. What a rewarding and life-altering experience!

QUOTE (Foxglove @ Jun 7 2006, 05:42 PM)
Hello all!

My name is Jim Spickler, the biologist who did the climbing for IWS during today's bald eagle chick banding effort. I just wanted to say that things went very well at the nest and that number "49" appears to be adjusting well to his(?) new wing tags and radio transmitter.

Hi Jim...number 49, eh? Well hello from number 11 laugh.gif I see from the video clips that indeed there is eagle number 11!
I just watched the video from yesterdays capture...awesome! You were quite calm considering what you were doing & where you were doing it. It must be a very rewarding experience for you & the team to be able to handle something so majestic. Thank you to everyone involved for giving me the chance to see something I never dreamed I would see.

How long before the results of the blood work are back?

Good morning all,

I would like to say a big THANK YOU to Peter Sharpe from the Insitutue for Wildlife Studies (IWS) for staying up late and getting the video together. The biologists from IWS have dedicated many years to the restoration of bald eagles on the Channel Islands and they deserve a lot of credit.

Please check out that video at:

I've been taking digital pictures on my computer screen without flash and they
are turning out really nice..especially of the snatch and the wave.. so cute.
I can print the good ones and show my computer deprived friends what the
heck all the excitment is about. The IWS.org website also shows our baby on
the first day, with both mom and dad looking on.. I took picures of that too.
What fun we are having with him/her.
