Hey All,
We're packing up this morning and heading for the West end of the island for a couple days. We're going to be out there trying to trap a couple of our older birds for follow-up blood and tissue samples. Right now the majority of the birds are on Anacapa island, but a handful are still on in the Christy area of Santa Cruz. Christy is about an hour and a half drive from where we live, so it's easier for us to camp out there for a couple nights than to get up at 3am to get out there before the sun comes up. We like to be 'on the set' before daylight, so we can be settled in the blind before the birds have a chance to see us. Anyhow, we'll give you a more complete update on Friday, hopefully with news of a recaptured bird or two. I'll talk to you then. Dave Oh, I'm going to be heading out to the SC nest before I head out west. I'll be zooming the camera out a little so we can see Limuw as he starts to explore more of the nest. |

Thank you Dave ... appreciate you going to the nest to zoom out .... it will be interesting watching just how far down the 'patio' he goes.
Good Luck with the trapping and we look forward to your next update. |

Thanks, Dave. It will be nice to be able to see Limu's head when he's on the E branch, or what he's up to while out on the patio. Looking forward to news about the older eagles, too. Thank you for everything you do for us.

Thanks Dave - Once the camera is zoomed out, we will have a much clearer perspective as to where Limuw is going. Good luck with the trapping.

Thanks so much for your updates. We are "hooked" on the SC nest cam. I have it up all day at work and people think I'm losing it the way I talk about Limu. Oh well they just don't have a life!

Thanks, Dave, for the update! My eccentric friend showed me the strangest hunting outfits from Cabela's--that famous shop. If you guys wore those, you'd look like TREES or bushes.
My friend wasn't thinking about eagles, but I sure did when I saw these get-ups--for hiding and watching eagles or any animal. Some had anti-scent properties--the big "leafy" head covers--to throw off mammals. The tree/leaf outfits are pretty cheap. I actually thought one guy was a big bush. Now I can't find that particular outfit or I would have posted a pix of it here. Good luck with the eagle-trapping. |

Oh, those leafy camouflage suits are a riot, LOL. They must be effective though... Dr Sharpe once told me bald eagles aren't that smart, so I think they would never suspect a bush moving around on the windy islands was a biologist trying to get their blood samples.
Anyway, great news to be announced tomorrow: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070627/sc_nm/...2_szaAbUcXMWM0F I want to thank IWS for their part in making this possible. And Dave is promising a Friday update! WEEHOOOO~ |

Well, Dave, he's exploring a bit more than just the nesst - you're gonna have to zoom out a bit further ! Thanks for all you've done and do! Can't wait to see any recordings you might have gotten! |

Good way of putting it, Georgia Gal!!! Now , if I just convince my dh of that..... Which reminds me, this morning I was telling my dh about Limuw's fledging yesterday, and how it caught all of us by surprise....well, at least it caught ME by surprise.....and we had this serious conversation about whether or not Mom and Dad knew what they were doing??? Finally I said, "Chuck, for heavens sakes, these are animals and their survival depends entirely on making the right choices...." You'd think we were talking about how the neighbors were giving their children too much freedom, too soon..... |
