It has been a busy week on Catalina. On Sunday we hiked to the West End nest to band the triplets. All three are looking healthy and are now sporting their new wing blings.
West End Chicks before banding (click for larger image)   This is the video that is being transmitted from the nest area, so the problem with the web feed lies somewhere in the 2nd or 3rd transmission link.  On Monday, we visited the Twin Rocks nest. Those two chicks are also doing well. Twin Rocks chicks sporting their new wing markers   Finally, today we banded the Two Harbors chicks. Apparently the video feed did not cooperate for the viewers at home, but that appears to be a problem with USC's network, which hosts our video servers, and not our equipment. Below are some photos and video of today's events. I'll post video and photos of that next week. I'll send in the blood samples for sexing after tomorrow's banding and we should know the sex of all the Catalina birds within a week or so. |

Thank you Peter / Steffani and IWS Crew - what a week you've had and what a job you have done! We  ya and truly appreciate your efforts ....What a process to get the chicks out of the nest at WE!! Thanks for the footage of the radio going on! They looked thrilled to see you go! LOL Kind of looked like "if I don't see you - you don't see me - look away"!! I love the Peter hanging out and talking at TH but when he said he had one go off the nest once -  - but Peter prevails! And thank you for the TH nest photo from a distance! WOW....      I've noticed that the chicks don't really pay any mind to their new bling/transmitters! You'd think they'd be a bit curious but .... |

Peter, Steffi and IWS Crew - You are amazing! Thank you so much for sharing all these wonderful experiences with us. Your camera work is great and it gave us a super perspective of where you have to go. The chicks really seem to like all of you, but then again, so do we.

Wow!!!If I ever have a chick to be banded, I'm calling this crew. Your gentleness and love for the eagles is palpable. I'm in awe, and that doesn't happen very often!

It really puts the size of the chicks in perspective when I see the crew holding them. They are so big, and they have grown so rapidly!
Thank you for the beautiful, clear pictures and the videos. I have sent them to my family. What a joy that they have done so well, those tiny balls of fluff.  |

Wow! I've only just now been able to view the videos. I guess there were a lot of people trying to watch them at once. But it was soooo worth the wait! The crisp, clear videos are such a treat! What incredible, wonderful pictures and videos. Thank you, IWS!!!! Beautiful, beautiful birds. Those eyes and beaks are just awesome!
