Good morning~
I spent July 19th watching the nest out at Pelican Harbor. As most of you noticed K-26 spent most of the day perched on or near the nest. At approximately 1100 I observed A-49 taking a sweeping flight across the canyon. A-49 flew from the westside of the canyon to the eastside of the canyon then back again. A-49's flights were strong and steady. After A-49 perched in south western part of the canyon. A-49 is actively flying but has yet to stray to far from his nest. Throughout the day K-26 was observed calling and A-49 was observed vocalizing in return. Have a great day! Michaela Koenig IWS Field Biologist |

Thanks for the update, Michaela! Woohooo..that confirms our poll that Mom was calling to Junior like we thought. I think he is a very cautious bird...not a risk taker. He seemed that way on the nest, too....had all the skills down before leaving the nest. I hope this will keep him safe and serve him well when he finally ventures out. Who knows?? Maybe he'll NEVER leave..LOL

Michaela : Thank you so much for your update on our boy.
Wonderful to hear that he is flying strong and steady. We could see mom, sitting on the branch, vocalizing, but we didn't know why.......now we do. She was probably calling out instructions! Enjoy your day too. |

Michaela,
Thank you for the update and taking the time to get back to us. We are all relying on these updates now that the little guy won't come back to the nest. Even though mom called for him all day. Loved to hear about him soaring from one end of the canyon to the other. Awesome. . . He is checking out the territory before he gets too bold. Great news, thanks, you have a great day... |

Thank you, Michaela. Obviously he could not fly across the canyon if his little tummy was not full.

Hi Michaela -
We have been waiting anxiously for an update - thank you so much!! It sounds like A49 is doing great! K26 was vocalizing so much yesterday and we wondering what was going on. . . and from your description, sounds like she was "talking" to her offspring. We were hoping she was trying to "talk" him up into the nest! Your updates mean so much to us here who can't see the whole picture - thank you again!! |

Hi Michaela,
Thank you for the update on 49. I thought "Mom" was calling him yesterday but like so many kids, he pretty much has a mind of his own! Your observations are much appreciated. Margie |

Michaela,
Yet one more THANK YOU. OK with me if he never returns to the nest, as long as he continues to gather strength and flies free. One day my dranddaughter stood up and walked....that was the end to the crawling. Maybe #49 is no different. He's ready to go! even if us humans miss him! he's doing what he is supposed to do. Go #49...soar like an eagle. |

Thank you for giving us an update about our feathered friend. It makes his leaving the nest, a little easier when we know that he is in the area, making good choices, safe landings and his parents are keeping an eye on him.
Will be sad to see the camera shutting down, but we know that all good things must come to an end. We all appreciate you giving us the opp. to observe his progress and we greatly appreciate the updates you give us. This is one website I will keep and I too, will donate to your wonderful cause.. We have an area at Lake Pleasant, Arizona where if we are very lucky, the pair hatch out a chick, the lake area is closed during that time. We have seen them at the lake several times in late summer.. what a sight! Thanks again .. Phyllis |
