This week, Amanda and I both went out to Santa Rosa Island. We were fortunate enough to have great weather until the end of the week when it came time to leave. Rosa is known as a very windy island, so it's always a treat to be able to watch the eagles when it's a little bit less windy.

Our task this week was to identify as many eagles as possible. The eagles like to spend a lot of time on Santa Rosa in the fall, while the hunt is going on. Therefore, we want to find as many of them as possible with our main observation areas being their roost trees. They have several roost trees on the island, so we spent a lot of time checking the trees for eagles. We managed to identify 12 different eagles while out there. We know there were more eagles than that out there, but we could only read tags and identify 12 different individuals.

The eagles spotted were: A-00, A-08, A-27, A-28, A-37, A-39, A-40, A-45, A-48, A-55, A-57, and K-67. So it looks like some of the Santa Cruz pairs are taking a vacation to Rosa.

We both visited Black Mountain, another roost on Rosa, and one morning I found four eagles perched in the trees! They were preening and stretching and just being eagles.

If you look closely, you might be able to spot all four white heads. (A-40 is pretty well hidden, so it might be hard to find him.)

In other news, this week was Amanda's last week working with the eagles on the islands. She is off to find new adventures and work with other species pursuing her career as a wildlife biologist. We are sad to see her go, as she was a very hard worker during her time with IWS. We wish her the best of luck with her new endeavors. Thanks for all the help!!!

WOW - Eagles being Eagles! biggrin.gif
How exciting it must have been to see so many of "our" tagged eagles!
Almost like an eagle convention.
I found all four!
And sweet A-67 Surprise!
Thanks for posting the pictures.

Have fun in your further pursuits.

Thank you for the great update and super photos. Looks like the eagles were so enjoying the sun with their wings spread. Love where 27 has their wings spread and a talon extended. So good to hear you saw many of them.

Best of luck to you Amanda. Thanks for all you did!!
