As you know All Eagles All The Time 2009/2010 is an Archival/History in Videos and Still captures showing the various stages throughout the year in the lives of the Eagles on the West End Nest on Catalina Island.
We have followed them through the Nestorations and then onto the Eggs/Incubation stage and now we have finally reached the most exciting stage the Hatching of the Chicks and their Early Development...... so this is where we will put the Chicks and their Development stages ... because that leads us into eaglets and fledglings. As you know all these Videos/Stills and Captures .. have been selected .. as their favourites ... by the members who have captured them on Nest Watch. You can see more videos and still pictures by visiting the Daily Observations thread. Also known as Nest Watch. Again we ask you not to post comments in this thread Viewing Only Please. This will enable faster viewing by Dr. Peter Sharpe and the IWS Team ... for record purposes ... and also for Members and visitors to the forum. Capturers are asked to wait until Cumbrian or EDblue (Eagle Duo) posts the first thread of each day before posting or reserving a space for your captures of the day to keep continuity to the archives. |

HAPPY HATCHDAY - CHICK #1!
April 14, 2010 ~ 8 AM - Looks like egg on right is cracked open and chick making its way out   AS K01 walks around the bowl - the egg on the right popped up for a second and you can see the separating shell (PS - just in case you wonder - the white spot directly below K01's beak is his leg band, not a piece of shell!)  ~ 10AM - Wray moved a shell out of the bowl and to the right edge of the nest  ~ 3:25PM - oh yeah - chick-in-egg on the right, other egg on the left. Chick looks like still a couple pieces of shell on it  ~3:30PM - WE chick finally pops it's head up for us!  ~ 4PM - you can see the chick's whole body as it's lying down in the nest bowl. Butt facing dad(?) and head planted in the fluff. Just in front of it looks like the top of the other egg  Chick's little black eyes have Dad's beak in sight!..  But head still too wobbly to make it there!  |

April 14, 2010 8:59-9:00am - Wray arrived to relieve K-01 and preside over the hatching of a soon-to-be eaglet   9:54am - Wray moves some eggshell  11:55-11:58am - Wray made shade    1:17pm - Initially, Wray gave us only slight peeks at the new one   3:18pm and 3:25pm - K-01 got a chance to incubate, and brood the new arrival in mid-afternoon; here he reacts to a wee escape attempt   |

April 14, 2010   A fish delivery at this nest means a hatching taking place. ..... K-01 bringing another .. for Mom. .........................................  ...........................................8:12am. One egg jumped twice at this switch   9:00am. Both vocalizing .. Hatch Announcement? .................9:40am. Removing some eggshell. ................................................  .....................................................Wouldn't you all like to see .... YES We Would!  ..............................................  ..........................................................................Breaking Free!   Wray and her new chick. ................................................................. K-01 and the chick. ...........................................  ................................................................. Dad attempting a feeding. |

April 14, 2010 6:33 am - the eggs...  7:53 am - looks kinda suspicious...  8:10 am - dad joins mom on the nest... yes, that egg rocked!   9:40 am - wray just pulled a piece of eggshell from the nestbowl...  10::26 - wray incubating and/or brooding?  3:31 pm - 01 repositioned long enough to show the chick moving--bobbing up and down!  4.28 - wray takes a look - a bobbing shadow and an egg ... 01 feeding his new chick... 5:06 pm -  5:07 pm -  5:40 pm -new chick flailing - seems to be stuck on its back--ah, just uprighted itself and ready to go! 01 on the nest - second egg also is in view...  |

April 15, 2010 9:53 am - dad arrives with a garibaldi--nice, colorful meal ahead for the little one!   10:04 am - fish still unattended...  10:19 am - wray, chick, egg, fish - camouflaged chick - look closely - it's there, poking up to the right of the egg!  1:22 - wray steps up for a moment and little one bobbles up...  4:26 - 01 arrives with a large stick and plows across the nest with stick in beak - wray gets out of his way and takes off to the left...   01 takes over parental duties - stick stands high at the front of the nest. |

HAPPY HATCHDAY - CHICK #2!
April 16, 2010 Wray did a bit of digging and an eggshell came out - 7:28am  7:49 and 7:50am - Wray revealed the bowl and view of the eaglets; K-01 dropped in briefly to see the new arrival   8:33 and 8:37am - Wray left and K-01 came in to begin a feeding   9:53am at WE- The new arrival shows just a little bit within K-01's shade  2:53pm - The parents took turns flying in and out to provide a fishy feast; everybody ate well  3:25-27pm - K-01 supervised, but the masked bandit tried to escape anyway    |

April 16, 2010   01 flies in at 3:19 with a  ...............................................Starts to nibble..................  Wray flies off at 3:21...........................................................01 cuddling with Biggie........   Wray was eating and the twins were watching.........They did end up getting a bite or two............   Wray sees 01.........................................................................01 arrives at 5:15 with a big stick..........   He goes to the back of the nest and admires his twins..................Starts to eat............... |
