DR SHARPE'S LATEST REPORT ON SKYE & SPIRIT

June 2, 2008

QUOTE (Eagle Guy @ Jun 2 2008, 02:33 PM)
I just spoke with Dr. Weldy and both birds are doing well. He would like to hold on to the bird with the beak injury for a while longer to make sure things heal. Right now I'm planning to pick it up next Monday and take it to the island on Tuesday. Both are eating on their own and are spending their time together in a dog run.

DR SHARPE'S INVITATION TO THE CRUZERS!

June 3, 2008

QUOTE (Eagle Guy @ Jun 3 2008, 10:29 AM)
Dr. Weldy drew blood from both birds for contaminant analyses today and weighed the birds.
The one with the beak injury weighs 3.5 kg and the other weighs 3.9 kg.

Plans have changed for returning the first bird to the island.
Because it is going to be placed in the tower with another eaglet from northern California that can only be brought down on the weekend, I will take them out to the island on Sunday.

Dr. Weldy has been kind enough to allow people to come by his office at 4 pm on Saturday the 7th to see the birds when I'm there to pick the first one up.
His clinic is the Serrano Animal and Bird Hospital, 21771 Lake Forest, Ste. 111, Lake Forest CA. It is located in a shopping center there.

You can also see them before I get on the Island Packers boat in Ventura on Sunday morning between 07:00 and 07:30. However, they will not be out of their crates then.

See some of you this weekend.

SURVIVOR MAKES FIRST FLIGHT - BY PLANE THAT IS!

June 7, 2008

Survivor ... the only one of three eaglets to survive ... was found on April 29th after strong winds downed the 75 foot nest tree in the Eastman Lake area.
(Eastman Lake is in the Sierra foothills east of Merced.)

jojoflys’ post re Cathy’s story about Survivor.

Volunteers of Fresno Wildlife Rehabilitation network took the eaglet to the Bird & Pet Clinic of Roseville where Dr Vicki Joseph and her husband Andy McBride cared for her until today. On arrival at the clinic, Survivor was examined and found to have no broken bones or other apparent injuries.

Arrangements were made to transport the eaglet to Ventura so that she could be taken to SC and released from a Hacking Tower.. along with Spirit.
When these arrangements fell through other urgent arrangements had to be made .. and that is where Jillers came in. She contacted Mike Wilson a pilot .. who contacted Jo his co-pilot and together with Stephanie of the IWS ... Survivor made her first flight ... by plane!

UPDATE ON SKYE!

June 17, 2008

QUOTE (Eagle Guy @ Jun 17 2008, 09:55 AM)
According to Dr. Weldy, the bird with the wing injury is doing well.  Its weight today is 3.98 kg.  Dr. Jim Felts, who did the surgery said the wing is healing well and is stable. They are all happy with how it is healing. I've asked for them to snap a photo and send it to me for posting.

FURTHER UPDATE ON SKYE!

June 26, 2008

This was on the Northern Channel Islands Update for Thursday, June 26/08.

QUOTE (IWS Crew @ Jun 26 2008, 03:06 PM)
I thought you'd also like to know some information about A-65 who is still at the vet clinic.
Dr. Weldy took these photos of A-65 and emailed them to Nancee Wells.
The bird looks very well fed.  We are hoping that it will be coming to Santa Cruz Island sometime in mid-July.

QUOTE (Stephanie - IWS Crew @ Jun 26 2008 @ 03:05 PM)
Hi everyone-

I just wanted to fill you in on what happened this week on Santa Cruz Island.

I spent some time searching for K-10 and K-26 in Chinese Harbor and was able to confirm a visual of K-10 perched on a rocky cliff overlooking the water.
I didn't see K-26 that day, but thought I would attach a few photos showing the area where both adults have been hanging out.

QUOTE (vickih @ Jul 7 2008, 11:35 AM)
Hi All,

I talked to Serrano this morning with Michelle.  Michelle gave me an update on Skye.  Skye has had the pins removed and is now at the Birds of Prey Center in a flight cage.  To be honest, I really don't know what a "flight cage is,"  but Michelle said that Skye is doing very well.  I guess Dr. Sharpe can give us an eta on when Skye will be returning to the hack tower.

We will be taking A-65 out to Santa Cruz tomorrow afternoon. We have a 4:30 Island Packers boat out of Ventura, so we'll be there around 4 pm if anyone wants to see him before he gets on the boat.
