My name is Debi, and I'm an eagleholic. I live in Makakilo, HI. I love this forum and am the nest mother here. I have a grown son who lives in Illinois and had a nest about 5 miles from him and is indifferrent about it. I'm convinced he was switched at birth. My husband Woody and my latest headcount is 4 dogs, 2 cats, 1 scarlet macaw, 1 greater sulfur crested cockatoo, 1 umbrella cockatoo, 2 african greys, 1 male and 1 female eclectus, 1 senegal, 3 sun conures, 1 rose-breasted conure, 2 green-cheeked conures, 5 cockatiels, 2 alexandrine parrots, 12 lovebirds. Here's a picture of me with my friend Sharon's female eclectus, my male, and one of my dogs, Baby, a silky terrier who has NO boundries in life. -------------------- Debi Kapolei, Hawaii, USA ..... ![]() click on photos to enlarge.........Here with my DH Woody |

My name is Jo Ann and I am a newly retired librarian living in Oxnard, CA, close to the beach. I can see Santa Cruz Island from the nearby beach. Last year when I was still working, I introduced many library users to this website. Following A-49 so closely has revived my interest in bird-watching. I learn so much from this discussion board. Looking forward to a new crop of eaglets. --------- Jo Ann Oxnard,CA. |

Glady
....Hello, my name is Glady Gates and I live in a little village on the south shore of Nova Scotia very close to Peggy's Cove with my husband of 50 years (in June of 2007). Peggy's Cove is a great tourist attraction because of the beauty of the ocean. It was also off the coast where the Swiss Air Flight 111 went down. I have a son who lives in British Columbia and a daughter who lives not far from us. We have two grandsons and a granddaughter. I have breed dogs (Keeshonden) since 1980 and have shown in Conformation shows, obedience trials and played a bit in Agility trials. I am a member of the Canadian Kennel Club, the Halifax Kennel Club and the Editor of the Keeshond Club of Canada Newsletter. I became very interested in the Eagles in March/April 2006 when the Hornsby Eagle Nest was reported on our local television station. From there the interest in Eagles escalated and I am hooked on these magnificent birds of prey. -------------------------------- Glady Gates-Seawind Keeshonden Nova Scotia, Canada http://community.webshots.com/user/ghgates ![]() Glady and Decker (as a puppy ... now 2 and 1/2 years old) Click on the photo to enlarge. |

I’m Steffani Jijón. I’m 24-years-old, born and raised in Quito, Ecuador. After high school my mom and I moved to OH. I started college at Ohio State University and graduated last winter with a BS in Zoology. I grew up surrounded by mountains, and even though I lived in a large city, a seven-hour trip would take me into the jungle. I’m a nature lover. I enjoy being outside, in the woods, away from noise and traffic, more than anything. I’ve always been fascinated with wild animals and for the majority of my college life I worked/volunteered at two centers of wildlife rehabilitation that treats sick, injured, orphan and displaced wildlife. I did pretty much everything a rehabilitator can do: capture animals, clean cages, perform educational programs, help with fund raising, advise the public regarding their encounters and inquiries about wildlife, build cages and landscaping, assist in minor surgeries, clean after the animals, train other volunteers, and the most wonderful task of them all… feed babies; baby raccoons, squirrels, foxes, opossums, hawks, owls, songbirds, vultures, weasels, ducks, coyotes, deer, mice, falcons, you name it. I got a lot of experience handling wildlife, especially once I started performing educational programs. Gradually, I became even more interested in birds, particularly raptors, which is also the type of animals I worked with the most, training them to stay on the glove for show displays and presentations. During my junior year I conducted a research project involving the epidemiology of wildlife and the potential risks of working closely with them. I took samples from several species as well as the most frequented areas in the facility, and cultured them in the lab isolating potential pathogens and determining prevalence of E. coli O157:H7 and Salmonella spp. The manuscript was reviewed and now ready for publication in the next month or so. In my senior year I focused on ecology, ornithology, wildlife management and conservation biology. After I graduated I served as a volunteer for the Student Conservation Association, working in remote forest areas in northern California determining nest status and location, conducting behavioral observations and physiological sampling of the Northern Spotted Owl for a study conducted by the University of Washington in conjunction with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. In the fall I worked for The Peregrine Fund, helping with the restoration of Aplomado Falcons in western Texas. Since February 1st of this year I’ve been working with the eagle project in Catalina. (You will all know how that goes.) I feel very lucky to be a part of this amazing project and be given the opportunity to follow very closely the development of such wonderful creatures. When people ask me where do I see myself in 5-10 years I tell them that as long as my life involves working with experienced, dedicated biologist who work to conserve our biological diversity by managing natural areas and protecting endangered species, I would be happy anywhere. I miss home a lot and the people I left behind. I visit my country every time I get a chance and hope that some day I can go back and help protect our ecosystem that’s like nothing else in the world. ------------------- Steffani Catalina Island, CA. ![]() This is me working at Seal Rocks site. Hi my name is Carlea and I live in Ocala, Florida. I started out watching Eagles last year with the Hornby eagles and was hooked. My husband Don and I are both retired from jobs with the State of Florida. We love retirement and the freedom it brings with it. Since our children have all "fledged" from the nest so to speak we share our lives with two dogs Mighty Mo and Big Red. We love to sit on our screen porch and watch all the birds. No eagles so far but a pair of falcons do hunt the neighborhood. Not good news for Mo who only weighs 7 pounds. We are a blended family of 5 adult kids, 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. What a joy they are to us. Most of our children and grand children live nearby but we do have one child who lives in Arizona. Unfortunately our great grandchildren live in Georgia and South Carolina along with their parents of course. Thank goodness for web cams. What a wonderful experience this has been and hopefully will be for many years to come. ---------------- Carlea. Ocala, Florida |

Eagle Kat
Hi to all = My name is Kathie and I live in San Pedro CA (on a clear day I can see Catalina from the parking lot of my grocery store). I've been watching the nests on Catalina for about three years now and have lurked on these boards for most of this year and figured it was about time to come out into the sunshine and greet you all. Born (oh so many years ago) in Ohio and raised in Santa Monica CA. I have just retired from DIRECTV where I was a Contracts Manager for many years. My husband, Larry, retired from Raytheon last year and we are in the process of selling our home here to become "homeless" in our motor home, traveling the US and Canada until we just can't stand it anymore and settle down someplace. Our first planned trip is to join a caravan in Dawson's Creek BC that will take us thru BC and the Yukon to Alaska for about two months. Maybe we'll see some of "our" eagles' relatives up there! I'm VERY excited about it. My husband came complete with a son who (along with his wife) have provided us with two beautiful grandsons (11/06 and 2/07). They live in Colorado so we don't get to see them as much as we'd like. We have two parrots, a Blue and Gold Macaw named KC and an African Grey Parrot named Rita. They will accompany us in our travels and are already great and adaptable travelers. They have even started a blog to keep a diary of our travels once we hit the road. Check in on us once in a while at http://pearsontrek.blogspot.com. I have already gotten my internet access via my cell company, so I'll continue to be "in touch" wherever we wander. Just a little bit of interesting trivia: Larry and I were married on Catalina Island! It's a very special place. ----------------------- Kathie Craig Pearson San Pedro CA .... ![]() Me on the "spit" at Homer.AK.... Family Pix .. Larry .. Rita .. KC and me! Grandma Doot Doot
Hi! My name is Judy. I'm 53 years old. Born and raised in San Leandro, CA (just 30 minutes east of San Francisco). I have lived within 18 blocks of the house that I grew up in. I just can't seem to "get away". My younger sister, Shirley, got away. She has lived most of her adult life in San Diego, CA. I am "Auntie JuJu" to her son, Michael. I have been divorced for forever (1984) and have one son, Tom, that will be 30 years old this year. He married his high school sweetheart, Shelly, in 2002, on the 7th anniversary of their first date. (They had always celebrated the anniversary of their first date, he didn't want to have to remember another anniversary date, so they got married on that date. Smart Man! I am so proud of the fact that in the 12 years that I have known my daughter-in-law, she has never once upset me or made me mad. She is the "PERFECT" wife for my son.) In 2005, they blessed me with my first grandson, Lane. He will be two years old on 6/15/07. I didn't know that being a grandma could be this exciting and fun. He is the best thing that has ever happened to me (well, other than his Dad being born). They bought their house in San Leandro in 2004 so I get to see them often. If you are wondering about my screen name... I was trying to teach my grandson to call me "JuJu". Everytime I would say "JuJu" and point at my chest, my son would say "Doot Doot" in a high pitched voice. (He is not a fan of the name JuJu.) My grandson thought that Daddy's "Doot Doot" sounded like a funnier name. I have been officially christened "Doot Doot" and my heart melts everytime he calls out to me. I am the only Grandma (out of 7 in the family) that has been named by Lane. It is SO COOL. So what do I do in real life? Well, I've been: a personnel clerk for the Federal government, a computer operator inputting sales ad information for a department store, a bill collector for Mervyn's, a police/fire/911 dispatcher and a dispatcher supervisor (for 15 years), a customer service rep for a sheet metal company, and finally - and presently - a California Superior Court courtroom clerk. My whole life has been spent working on computers in one form or another. Thank goodness my son has been a computer technician all of his life. He has explained the "finer points" of computers involved in my jobs. Tom is currently the Chief Technical Officer for a computer company and has been doing IT work since 1997. He is always there to convert computer geek talk into something I can understand. Oh yeah... I also have a 2nd job (to help pay the rent and the bills). I am the Orchestra Manager for YOSAC (Youth Orchestra of Southern Alameda County). I am the glorified gopher. Their fax machine is in my 2nd bedroom. I do all the computer work, paperwork, audition scheduling, reservations, concert programs, phone calls, mail outs, take care of the mail at the PO Box, you name it I do it... So I am on the computer all day with one job and all evening with the other. Whenever I need a "CALGON TAKE ME AWAY" moment, I check out K10, K26, and A63 on the Santa Cruz EagleCam for my touch with nature. I have really enjoyed watching SP go from being a small white puff of feathers to the magnificient teenage eagle he/she is becoming. I've told all my friends and family about A63 and have some co-workers TOTALLY engrossed. We just can't seem to get enough. I have just recently discovered the "Discussion Boards" and am busy trying to catch up on all the posts, pictures, and information. You guys rock! Your pictures and videos are awesome. I went on a cruise in Dec. 2006. We spent the day on Catalina Island. If I knew then what I know now. MAN! I would have done more on the island than just eat a buffalo burger. I would have been searching for info on IWS!!! I am looking forward to reading all your bios and watching all your pictures/videos. Thank you for helping further my education on eagles. -------------------- Grandma Doot Doot (AKA Judy) San Leandro, CA |

Hello all, My name is Gary and I have lived on Long Island, New York my entire life. I am married to Deb (harpo516) since 1992. We live on Long Island which is nothing like Manhattan. We have little houses with trees, grass and flowers. Our dog Trinity is a German Shepherd mix and is named after my favorite movie The Matrix. We have two parakeets as well, Bugs Bunny and MOTY. I am a licensed Architect in the State of New York and I currently work in Manhattan (NYC) for Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. The firm has designed buildings such as the Sears Tower, Hancock Tower, AOL Time Warner (NYC), 7 WTC (NYC) and the Burj Dubai Tower in Dubai. During my free time I am an Assistant SM for the Boy Scout troop that I grew up with and attained the rank of Eagle Scout (hence my screen name). Since I spend a lot of time on a train going to and from work in NYC, I read a lot - Tom Clancy, Dale Brown, David Hagberg and I love to travel, backpack and camp. While participating as a “spouse” at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, I fell in love with the mountains and hiking there and have already participated as a leader, in two backpacking treks with my 3rd trip quickly approaching in July of this year (2007). Philmont is a working ranch of 139,000 square acres (approx 212 square miles) and has peaks up to 12,400 feet. It is the pinnacle of one’s Scouting career and I am happy to be able to take crews with me to enjoy it. Deb and I made an adventure to California to see the Eagle nests in person as well as other site seeing. We spent the first few days meeting many of the forum members that live in the area and are a big part in Deb’s “Internet World.” I had a great time hiking the trails at Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa and visiting Catalina. It was really cool to see the eagle nest at Santa Cruz and Catalina (thanks). We really enjoyed our time in California where we also went to see the Hearst Castle, Sequoia National Forest, LA, Malibu and Seal Beach. We also saw some of the architectural sites on my list including the Disney Concert Hall (Frank Gehry), Hollyhock House (Frank Lloyd Wright) and Getty Center (Richard Meier). We also saw many other wild things like dolphins, whales, and 2 bear cubs while at Sequoia. We have another hobby which we enjoy - geocaching, which mixes our enjoyment of the outdoors, technology and hiking/walking. I love listening to music and my favorite band is Rush. I also enjoy the bands System of a Down, Nine Inch Nails, Korn, Disturbed, Rage Against the Machine, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Wolfmother and Dope. The music is what attracts me. I may not always agree with the lyrics and sometimes I do not pay attention to them, it doesn’t mean the songs don’t rock! -------------------- Gary, Long Island, New York |

Erin and I were on the final day of a 10 day road trip that started with a four-wheeling tour through deep northern Nevada and spending time relaxing and finding adventure in the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. The morning we found Limuw we had left the City of Rocks climbing area in Southern Idaho and traveling on remote roads heading back to Hwy. 80 and then California. The morning started with amazing lightning storms and miles of driving on BLM roads to reach pavement. Skies cleared as we entered Nevada and as we were entering Montello I saw a large bird dead on the roadway. I then flashed on the fact that I thought I saw large tags in it. I turned around and came back around to find Eagle A-63. Upon closer examination I found the tracking device, large blue tags and a band. I took photo's, a GPS waypoint, collected the tracking device and moved the bird off the road. I then went into Montello and used the pay phone (no cell coverage there) at Shorty's Bar to report the death to the 800 number on the band. They took the information and suggested I also call the number on the radio tracking device. I called and left a message. We could not have know that the bird we found was being followed by so many people and that it traveled all the way from the Channel Islands in five days. I thought maybe it was a local bird so I also called the state of Nevada as well, but made little progress. Later that day on the way home, I did get a call back from the IWS staff and shared the sad news. Erin, my daughter, is a 5th grader and attends school in San Rafael. She is a wonderful young lady and an amazing student who loves to do research and write reports. Her next report will be on Bald Eagles. She and I have shared many adventures together taking road trips to remote places and camping. I work as a Fire Captain in Marin and volunteer for the Marin County Mountain Rescue Team. Not having good closure myself on several significant missions and medical calls, I understood that someone would want to know what happened to this great bird. I know this was a devastating loss and we wish we could have done more. We are deeply moved by all the expressions of appreciation for finding Limuw. Sincerely, Michael and Erin San Rafael, CA |

Hi my name is Glo and I am originally from Massachusetts. I studied Nursing in College and upon graduation was married to my Marine named Tom. We moved around for a while as he fulfilled his service contract. We eventually settled and bought a home in Springfield Illinois. In 1984 he answered a call into the ministry and we moved again to a little town called Oakwood Illinois. While he was serving the local church I was busy pursuing a degree in Marriage and Family Counseling. I currently have a small local practice and also work part time at a Local Women’s Shelter as their Resident Counselor. In Dec of 1997 I lost my husband Tom to colon cancer. Life took quite a change for me then but I have stayed in the Quad Cities area, which is where the church he was pasturing when he became ill, was located. I have lots of long term friends here, and as some of you have seen, an abundance of eagles in the winter time along the Mississippi River. Quad Cities meaning 4 cities is made up of Rock Island and Moline Illinois, and Davenport and Bettendorf Iowa. It is right at the bend of the River and actually flows West to East in our area. That messes with the heads of those who can tell which direction they are heading as most assume the Mississippi runs North to South which it does except for right here. I went to see the eagles at a Marina about 5 mins from the home I moved into after losing my husband. I was instantly hooked and found myself at the Marina daily in all kinds of weather to see and hear them. I was at that time participating in an online ladies forum and someone mentioned a nest in West Virginia that had just come online and had an eagle sitting on 3 eggs. That was very early in 2006.I was one of the first posters on that Blog and continue to enjoy watching that nest very much. I also participated in fundraising for NCTC in Shepherdstown West Virginia in their first and second seasons. A blogger at NCTC mentioned Beakspeak and soon I had found all kinds of eagle cams. For that season though I pretty much watched NCTC and occasionally Saanich nest with Big and L’il after having read of the sad news of the Hornsby Pair. These eagles had all won my heart and a whole new hobby and passion was fulfilling a huge void left in my life at my husband’s passing. I kept very close watch on all 3 of the Channel Island nests last year. I incorporated reports from these eagles on my For the Love of Eagles BLOG and began lurking around the forum. I celebrated the hatches and fosterings and so mourned the loss of Limuw with all of you. I decided then to be a part of those making a donation in memory of him to the work being done by IWS and Dr Sharpe. I was thrilled when I got the email saying my name was drawn for one of the tours from the funds raised, and look so forward to meeting Dr Sharpe and his staff and seeing the smallest of these glorious creatures up close. As I stick around the forum more I find many new friends who also enjoy my passion and now am even hoping for the opportunity to meet up with some of them when I head to Catalina in the Spring. I have 2 grown children. My son and his family live in Georgia. My daughter and her family live in Arizona. I don’t get to see them very often at all and perhaps eventually will need to make a decision to move closer to one or hope one decides to move back to Illinois. I have a beautiful grand daughter Elia who my daughter and son in law adopted from Mexico. She is now 2 years old and I so cherish every moment I get to spend with her. I have two step grandsons Fran and Ale who are 15 and 12 years of age. They are wonderful boys and I also enjoy my itme with them. I took all of these folks out to the river to see “My Eagles” when they made a Surprise Christmas Visit for me 2 weeks before Christmas, which is our family’s way of another step of healing at the loss of the head of our home. This year on Dec 31, our husband and dad will have been gone for 10 years. It was a joyful healing time for each of us. I have no idea how they pulled this surprise off on Mom.!!!! The family that resides in my home now with me is very furry. They are Dexter and Daphne a pair of Shiht’zus. I of course absolutely cherish these dogs and try to not spoil them too much every day. ![]() I am pleased to get to know each of you. The forum is an awesome place and I will post as much as I can; however, come active eagle season I do stay very busy with the For the Love of Eagles BLOG. In addition to several other online nests, you will find many references to the 5 nests we look forward to here this new season on that blog, as I try to keep my readers who really don’t have much time for blogging, forum participation, and many limited time for cam viewing, up to date on the happenings at the various nestcams on the internet. I so love to do that. I try to tell my dogs about what is happening but somehow it doesn’t quite compute ----------------- Glo Rock Island, Illinois. |

Hi all, My name is Vicki Lee and I live in Newbury Park, CA with my husband, Paul and 3 cats (Lola, Turbo & Charlie). I have been a lover of wildlife of all kinds since I was very little. I was born in 1948 and grew up in San Francisco, CA. I moved to the Yosemite area in 1975 and then to the Los Angeles area in 1981. My family were avid campers and fishers and loved to travel around on vacation to various parks, mostly in the California and Oregon area. I retired in 2006 from my job with Warner Bros. in the Domestic TV Syndication department. I now can spend more time pursuing my first passion, music. I play various instruments and have played in a lot of bands since 1965. I found this forum last year when Limuw was only a few weeks old and watched with wonder at all his antics. I won an adoption certificate and photo at last year's Nest Adoption Challenge and hope to win a tour this year!!! ------------------------- VickiLee Newbury Park, CA |

Hi Fellow Eagleholics: My name is Marcie. I live in Zanesville, Ohio, which is about 55 miles east of Columbus. I've lived in Ohio my whole life. I work in a grocery store in the bakery department where I decorate cakes. Have done cake decorating for over 33 years. Of course, I started when I was just a baby. I'm happily single. No children, but several nieces and nephews and great nieces too. They are like my children. I have three cats, Frasier, Mandy and Shorty. I love all animals. I love to garden. It's my therapy after a stressful day at work. I learned of this website through my sister, who lives in CA. I started watching the PH nest when Skye and Spirit were pretty little. It was addicting. Unfortunately, I can't see the other nests. I tried downloading NeoCast, but it made my computer a little sluggish. I do check in on the non NeoCast occasionally. I like to watch the videos that everyone else captures. Thanks for providing such a great site. IWS is wonderful. What a rewarding job it must be to care for and observe such magnificent creatures. ![]() --------------- Marcie Zanesville, Ohio ![]() |

Hi There! My name is Gloria Darcy. I hail originally from Westchester County, New York. My husband and I have been quite the travelers over the past 26 years. When I met my husband, it was uncanny to me that he knew when an eagle was around. He would get a "feeling" and lo and behold, there was one in the sky. He does have some native american in him, and a Mensa certified genius, so who knows why he can do it? It's fun, though! He got me hooked on these beautiful birds after I met him. He has a doctorate in wildlife management/behavior. I love all animals. Enough about him. But I wanted to give you the background of how I discovered these beautiful birds. We moved to Florida (Tampa area) in 1984. The eagles were magnificent to watch. We had one locally that loved a certain tree in our yard. When we went to the Everglades, it amazed me at how many eagles we saw, along the roads in the meridian as well. It was so awesome. In Arizona, we saw Golden Eagles. In Texas, not too many. We now live in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, 30 miles from Musicty City Nashville. I wanted to become a singer, but found it too difficult and time consuming. I have stuck to my day job of secretary. Much easier! I am 50 years old. We have three grey cats and a very overweight miniature pinscher named Bit Bit. We have photos, statuettes, etc. of eagles all around the house. We are wanting to go to Reelfoot Lake in the winter some time to see the eagles there. Hopefully, we will get there. I still love to sing, do puzzles (of eagles, of course!), paint, watch TV, and play with my animals. A pretty quiet life. But now I have discovered this wonderful website and hopefully will see some eagles live. I haven't had that opportunity live yet. I think I get up too late. I am in central time. I do love to watch the videos you all post and the stills. We discovered the website after watching a show called Most Shocking, where it showed a rogue male eagle snatching two eaglets and dropping them to the ground. I am so glad the little ones survived. What an ordeal for these two babies. Anyhow, that's about it. You all have a great eagle watching day! ------------------------------ Gloria Murfreesboro, Tennessee Photograph requested |

Emigrated here in 1947 at the age of 8, with my parents and one younger sister from Montreal by train, with all of our furniture and belongings arriving a month later by boxcar, just about the time my youngest sister was born. I was graduated from MHS in 1957, went to work at telephone company (yep, 'number please' I retired from the road commission in 2001 and 2 days later the 'light of my life' was born ... no relation but I'm Grammy #4 to Chloe ... I was the first to hold her after her father bro't her out of the OR and it was instant love. Never married, no children, 7 cats, love to travel, and LOVE VEGAS! Several years ago my neighbor and I watched an eagle nest off the coast of BC ... it was such fun ... then it went offline ... was so excited when our CH 6 in Marquette mentioned that Norfolk had a nest cam, so went online to check that out ........ well, that was 'hook time' for me, got my neighbor and sister interested, got Chloe's class interested, and thru' NBG found IWS ... well, let me tell you ... I was so busy going back and forth between nests that I got dizzy ... (you've heard of dizzy blondes? pleased to meetcha' ) I am a member of NESTI ... and would love to become a member of IWS ... I did win a DVD last year, and keeping my fingers crossed for even bigger and better prizes to come ... hint, hint! I have an Advance Master Gardener certificate and besides my own gardens, also do the gardens for the county fair bldg. and the animal shelter yard and flowers, which I designed in memory of my parents. I'm on the Mstq. Housing Commission board and also on the board of our Eva Burrell Animal Shelter. I'm heavily involved in the fund raising duties of the shelter, as well as volunteering. I'm passionate about my yard, my flowers and pond, bubbler and fountain which this past year I turned into a 3 level planter ... so much wind that the water reservoir kept emptying, so recycled it. From November thru' April each year I do a bird count for the Kalamazoo Nature Center who reports to Audubon. Yearly I feed cardinals, juncoes, chickadees, sparrows, pigeons, starlings, grackles, gold, house and purple finches, the occasional flock of pine grosbeaks and rosy-breasted grosbeaks, mourning doves, the occasional blue indigo bunting and oriole, and one year a brown thrush moved in with the mourning doves for the winter (got pics and had the species verified by KNC). I hit the highway often to go and visit Chloe, or go shopping, or for whatever reason ... up here in the 'boonies' ya just have to travel in order to do anything ... ---------------- Anna, Manistique, MI ![]() ......................................Me with Chloe. |
