Hi..I’m Susan Venable. I am an artist and live in Santa Barbara. I moved here nine years ago from Venice, CA. My husband, Charles Vinick, is CEO of the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound. Yes, he commutes to Cape Cod! Four years ago we built my studio on our property, adjoining our historic adobe, so my commute is shorter! Fortunately I read the story in the local paper about “OUR” nest, and was hooked. We have an (almost) two year old granddaughter, two rescue Aussies, and plenty of gophers (I’ll gladly share). When you have time, check out my website: www.venablestudio.com. Love meeting all of you! -------------------- Susan Santa Barbara, CA. |

Hello Everyone My name is Cathy Reznicek and I am the Educational Technology Specialist for the Ventura County Office of Education. I am so excited about the Eagle Cam and discussion form project for many reasons. Being able to watch a species on the road to recovery is the just one of the fabulous benefits of this project. I have been working in education for about 15 years now. First as a Jr. High/ High School science teacher then on to work at a community college in the Seattle area with adults with Cerebral Palsy, which is where I really got interested in using technology to support instruction and give students more power to control their own learning. I taught at the community college level and was also the Distance Learning Coordinator there for a few years before moving back to the Ventura area. I really like living in Ventura but do miss Seattle a lot. My kitties like the warm sunshine here so I guess I will stay for awhile. Thanks much, Cathy -------------- Cathy Ventura, CA. |

Hi, we are Roy and Pat, from Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, BC. Originally from England UK. Been in Canada 19 years. Although I was born in England, my Heritage is pure Scottish, both Parents were from Renfrew, near Glasgow. I was born and brought up in the North East of England, so have what they call a 'Geordie' accent, then the family moved over to the North West of England, to the Lake District in the County of Cumbria, hence Cumbrian. Roy and I both worked in the Shipbuilding and Engineering Industry, for one of the lead yards for the MOD, building Aircraft Carriers, Submarines and Type 42 Destroyers.. We both worked in the Training, Education and Safety Department. Roy as an Instructor (after a varied career in the Company serving his Apprenticeship as a Boilermaker, Tradesman, Safety Officer and finally a Training Instructor) I was the Office Manager. We were just friends...then I decided to emigrate to Canada, to be with family members here on the Island, and Roy decided to follow me! We were married here in June 1987 in my Aunt and Uncle’s garden. In Canada, we both decided to change careers and went back to college, Roy for Computers and I trained as an Early Childhood Educator. I hope that over the past 18 years I have made a difference in the lives of the children, who attended pre-school. It is certainly a fun profession to be in.......lots of hugs and “ I can do it’s ” I am now semi-retired, but still on call as a substitute. Roy, works in Retail and is an Assistant Manager of a Computer Dept. In the Spring of 2006 we started to watch the EagleCam on the Eagle’s nest at Hornby Island B.C. and were devasted on May 4th, along with millions of other EagleCam watchers, when their second egg also collapsed. Then we watched Big and Lil at Saanich, Victoria B.C. and from there we got the link to this nest on Santa Cruz where we watched in wonder the Banding of A-49 and that was the day we fell in love with an eagle who we would come to know as CRUZ. It is a pleasure to be involved with the members of this forum...The A-49 Cruzers....... We are Eagleholics! -------------------- Pat. Nanaimo, on beautiful Vancouver Island. B.C. Hi, I'm Elsa, and I live in Northern California, north of Sacramento. I'm a widow of a law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty in 1985, and have never remarried. I have a beautiful 34 year old daughter who is recently divorced and lives with me. After 23 years working in the clerical support unit of a police department, I retired a few years ago. I missed the law enforcement environment, so now I volunteer at my local police department. I find birds fascinating, and love watching and reading about them. I am owned by a twelve-year old toy poodle named Angel; she still acts like a puppy except on those cold mornings when arthritis in her little legs slows her down. She brings such joy into my life! My hobbies are scrapbooking (I have 50 years worth of photographs to put into albums!), reading and playing on the computer. Due to Rheumatoid Arthritis my activities are somewhat sedentary, but the computer certainly opens up a lot of worlds, doesn't it?! Watching the activites here and at the B.C. nest last year was awe inspiring; I'm excited about the happenings in the coming months. I am also very impressed at what a close-knit community this group of watchers has become... you're a great group of folks! --------------------- Elsa, Northern California ![]() Click on photo to enlarge. |

My name is Phil Robbins (bigphil) I was born on March 31, 1955 in Lehi, Utah Both of my parents lived in Utah all of their lives and in 1958 they decided they wanted to move out of the cold weather and come to California. We moved to Whittier. As a youth I spent several years in the Boy Scouts of America. I have many memories of camp outs and long term trips that we would go on every year. I was able to attend a Boy Scout National Jamboree in 1969 in Farragut State Park, Idaho. I earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1970. I graduated from La Serna High School in 1973. I did some work in the grocery business, and moved to the freight business, working on the docks loading and unloading trucks. From 1975 to 1977 I served a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon Church) I married my sweetheart Annette in 1978. We lived in Whittier for 11 years. Then we moved to Phelan, Ca. It is in the high desert up by Victorville. We bought two and a half acres of land and hired a contractor to build us a home. It is a beautiful four bedrooms, two bathrooms, with a view of the mountains on the south and the high desert on the north. Elevation there is 4800 feet so we would get snow pretty much every winter. It was a beautiful place to finish raising our family. We have 5 boys and 1 girl. My oldest son is 28, and my youngest son is 14. My dear Mother passed on in 1998 of ovarian cancer. My dear Dad passed on in 2003 of an abdominal aneurism. In 2005, I got tired of commuting the 62 miles to work in City of Industry, where I have worked for 20 years, driving the big tanker trucks of newspaper printing ink, for Flint Ink. So we moved back to Whittier, into the house I grew up in. Just recently, I found this live web cam on the internet, and eventually found my way to this forum. I have always loved the Eagle. A most beautiful, impressive and majestic bird. It makes me feel good to find and read about the many wonderful people who are striving to help increase the Eagle population. So, here I am in Whittier. ----------------- Phil aka harleyphil Whittier, Ca .......... ![]() Click on photos to enlarge. |

Hello, My name is Candy and I live in Oxnard. I've been married for 28 years, have 3 adult daughters, 2 sons-in-law, and a beautiful granddaughter with Angelman Syndrome (for more info go to http://www.angelman.org). We also have a dog, Lilo (I didn't name her!!) and a cat, Squeaks. I'm originally from Maryland, but being raised as a Navy brat don't really call any one state "home". My dad was stationed at Point Mugu in the early 60's and my parents loved the area. When Dad retired in 1968, we all moved back to Oxnard...there were still orchards, fields, and lots of open space. I left in 1977 (joined the Army) and lived in Texas for a few years. Actually met my husband at Fort Hood, TX. We married, had two girls while living in Texas, and in 1980 moved back to Oxnard. My youngest was born in 1982 so she is a California native. I've worked for the Navy for the past 23 years and am looking forward to retirement so I'll have more time to watch the eaglets! I've actually been watching for a while. My sister and I kept tabs on Cruz last year...felt so abandoned when the nest was empty! Once we heard there was another egg on Santa Cruz we pulled the website back up and have been watching ever since. I sent the link to two co-workers and can occasionally hear them discussing the antics of our little friend on SC. Glad to be here. Since I usually have the nest up while I'm at work, I probably won't post very often, but I love reading all the observations. ------------------- Candy Bryant Grandma to Emma, 3.5 yrs old, Del+ Oxnard, CA .... ![]() ................................................ Hello Everyone! I’m Kris, aka “circlescribe”. I became an Eagleholic the day I happened to be on line at work watching the Two Harbors cam, having just learned of the hatching on SC. After only a few days of cam watching, I saw the Two Harbors fostering live and was totally hooked! I am an avid animal, bird, reptile, and all-nature lover, my first experience with live cams being with the San Diego Zoo Panda cam, watching baby Hua Mei grow up online. I’m a Southern California native, and have one adult daughter. I met my DH, who is a writer and an artist, in England in 1995. He immigrated to the US, when it was an easier move for him at the time, but we’re making plans to move to England in the next couple of years if possible, hopefully before freeway gridlock comes to a complete stop. When we met DH lived about twenty minutes’ drive from Stonehenge in the beautiful English countryside near the legendary land of Avalon. We were married on a cliff overlooking our local town of Avalon, on Catalina Island. I’ve worked in animation all my adult life, having been an Art/Science major in school, and just ‘happening’ into an animation job when newly divorced with a small child to raise over 40 years ago. I’ve worked in most areas of animation production and currently work on an animated series for children’s television. DH and I have a few writing projects in the works, not related to animation, but that involve our combined artistic talents, and that we hope to publish in book form in the near future. Always inspired and uplifted by the beauty of nature, I have deeply enjoyed the experience of watching the Channel Island Eagles’ progress, and the observations, comments, and camaraderie of the forum members. ---------------------- Kris Santa Monica, CA ......I am standing in front of some photos of my late Labrador, Bessie, and my late kitty Angel Clare; also on the wall is an oil painting I did several years ago of a wonderful neighborhood cat that I used to feed named Sammy. Every morning he waited outside for me to feed him, since he was always left out at night by his irresponsible 'owners' and he was a very friendly gregarious cat. In the Summer of 1992 they left him outside when they went on a week long vacation and he disappeared. I didn't know they were out of town at the time and, even though I still fed him, he was more vulnerable and probably more hungry than usual. It was during a Full Moon and he was most likely gotten by one of the Coyotes that come from nearby hills to prey on small animals in the neighborhood, mostly cats. |

My name is Cinnie and I live in New Jersey (New York City environs). I grew up on a farm in Michigan and escaped to New York City for 18 years where I worked with nonprofit organizations and played a little music. My husband (Marty) and I moved to Oakland CA in 1995, where I started working with The Nature Conservancy (TNC). In 2001, we moved back to the East Coast and my current job with TNC is working with the marine program, helping scientists who do the “work on the ground” to navigate government rules and regulations. Five indoor cats and many outdoor birds are my main interests! I had the opportunity to go to Santa Cruz Island about 6 years ago, flying in to a very tiny airstrip and traveling some incredibly bumpy trails around the TNC-owned portion the island; and having a truly incredible time. That “sense of place” really has catalyzed my interest in what is going on now. At that time, there were still quite a few Golden eagles there, and (to my knowledge) no Bald eagles had been reintroduced at that time. There were problems with feral pigs and the serious decline of the island fox population. TNC had a link to the banding video for A63 on an internal newsletter that was fascinating. It is such an opportunity to see the work actually performed, and I started watching regularly after that point. I was in heaven seeing A63 on his fledging day (I am pretty sure I caught his second flight, but not the first, as it happened), and love the video captures that everyone shares. Thank you for the wonderful forum and opportunity to connect with ongoing wildlife protection. I love it. -------------------------- Cinnie New Jersey Photograph requested |

Hello, My name is Cathie. I recently retired and moved from South Pasadena to Seal Beach, California. I worked for the County of Los Angeles as a RN for 32 years and am now enjoying my freedom. I heard about the Eagles on the Channel 9 News and have been watching the Eagle Cam since before Limuw was born. I am hooked like the rest of you. It is not often that you can watch the miracle of life. I want to thank those who put so much time and effort into this board. You can feel the love you have for the Eagles and one another I hardly have enough time for chores. I am happy to see that the Eagles are growing up and becoming independent but sad they will soon be gone. I am anxious for the 2008 season and will continue to check hoping for a chance to see them. ----------------------------- Cathie, Seal Beach, California. ![]() ..................Cathie & Roger |

Hello friends - human & feathered! I have been absolutely captivated by the SC nest cam. I found myself "Jonesing" when our little guy fledged! I have three captive parrots, and even they have been watching the screen carefully, responding to his calls, etc. My online handle is "ck" and I live in Santa Barbara. I've been watching ole '63 since I saw a report of his hatching around his first week. As I said, we've been absolutely captivated by this opportunity to see what nature does best - survival against great odds! I was amazed at how quickly eagle bird babies grow, their interaction with the parents, learning phases, etc. I am also awestruck at how big the SC nest is. The day of his banding was incredible. Watching the climber take his photos while birdie posed on his first perching for him. Wow! What a terrific experience -- and scary considering how defensive/scared/and possibly unpredictable such an animal can be. I look forward to chatting with everyone and learning more about birds of prey and generally about bird behavior in the wild. --------------------------- "ck" (Colleen), Santa Barbara, CA Photograph Requested |

Hello ... I live in Texas now, but am originally from the Philippines and still have family there that I visit when I can afford the trip. We too have an Eagle as our National bird, The Haribon --Philippine Eagle. They too are declining in numbers due to loss of habitat. My grandmother brought me with her to the USA and in 1982 moved to Ventura, CA. I graduated from high school in Ventura High back in 1984. My job has brought me here to Austin, Texas. I frequently visit my grandmother who still lives in Ventura. The company I work for supports the Nature Conservancy from which I found the Nest Cam courtesy of the IWS. One look at A-63 Limuw got me hooked. I just used to read everyone's posts, especially the updates from the IWS biologists. Since Limuw's passing, I have posted only a few times in order to console my broken heart. I can not wait for next year's baby baldies!!! ![]() It is my goal to someday take a tour of the Channel Islands and pay tribute to Limuw's nest. I still get teary eyed every time I think of him. Texas also has their Llano River Bald Eagle family. It is very exciting to know that Bald Eagles are slowly spreading across the USA. It is their God-given legacy to soar our skies and I am very happy to know people like all of you .. and the IWS who work fervently to make that happen. I am so thankful for the folks who have saved Limuw's memory through pictures and videos. Best regards. ---------------- Carol Hale. Austin, Texas. |

Hi, my name is Wilma and I'm hooked on eagles. I'm honored to share a birthday with Limuw's mom, K26. Born and raised in Indiana, I realized a lifelong dream ten years ago of living in Texas, and I love it here. I live with my two Chihuahuas, Rosita and Daisy, who graciously allow me to provide dog food and treats, and plenty of pats and hugs. They have me very well trained. I work as a correctional officer in a privately owned 2100 bed minimum security facility. Not a bad job I guess, but I'd rather be fishing. One of my early childhood memories is a trip to a zoo in southern Indiana, and how excited I was over the eagle exhibit. I got hooked really young. Many years later I had the privilege of seeing a bald eagle in the wild. A pair nested on the reservoir where my ex and I fished a lot, and one of them used to sit in a dead tree just across a small cove from us almost every morning. I love music and reading and animals of all kinds, especially eagles, wolves and horses. I used to own an Arabian mare. I collect model Harley Davidsons, angels, Native American things, wolves, horses, wind chimes, and now eagles. I'm very glad to be a part of this forum, and eager to get to know you all. ------------------------------ Wilma in Texas. |

Good morning to all .... my name is Eileen. I became hooked on Eagles when I was sent the URL for the Web Cam in April of 2007. I am a mother of two daughters who have both recently remarried one last year, and the other this year. I have a 16 y/o granddaughter, and two grandsons 8 & 12. Two live in the South, and one in Indiana. So living here in Eastern Penna. is hard since I don't get to see them very often. I work as a Receptionist/Dental Assistant. Just recovering from a Total Hip done on Aug. 6th so I have been mostly out of the Office for some time now. However, I was in for a little while the day after I got home from the hospital, and several times thereafter to straighten out various things. My Hobbies & Sport's are Martial Arts, horseback riding, ice skating, deep sea fishing, and watching Eagles. I believe I have seen three Eagles in this area. Not sure if they were Juvie Bald Eagles, or Golden Eagles. They were a sight to see for sure. Some of my Patient's also wittnessed the one. I am owned by a 4 y/o German Shepherd retired Show Dog, Bell, and hope to breed her to improve the breed. Naturally I think she is special. I was able to get her OFA'd Hips & Elbows and she scored good. Then I got her HIC (Herding Instinct Certified), and last year I managed to get her T.C. Temperment Certified. She got her 1st Blue Ribbon @ 11 month's of age. So proud of my baby girl. I watched # 26 & # 10 taking turns sitting on their eggs in all kinds of Weather, turning them, carefully lowering themselves down to keep them warm & dry, and enjoyed a squabble between Mom & Dad. I was very impressed with their parenting skills. They were so sweet looking at Limuw, and gave him such T.L.C.. So gentle for creatures of their size. (Wish my Bell was that gentle). Am so looking forward to watching next Season, and hopefully we will have better luck for the S.C. P.H. nest. I just hope # 26 doesn't have Mother's Intuition re: Limuws passing. I am still numb from it. ------------------ Eileen Pa. ![]() |
