Good morning

You can not imagine the excitement of the morning to see the cam come up at SC and see that little grey head thru the sticks (meant to mention to mom and dad that front stick has got to go!) And then to hear that peep over that microphone buried in the nest!!!

I was out all day but came to over 30 pages of posts of observations, thoughts, photos and videos of all 3 nest with all those chicks! All being fed - all running around - all growing - all being cared for by wonderful eagle parents!

What a banner day for the eagles, for IWS, for The Channel Islands and thank you VCOE for making it possible for us to be a part! Then I thought about the raffle of last year, the camera and kayaks that we raised monies for, Peter's Piggy Bank which is ongoing - and I felt a teeny bit of "ownership" in the project as should all of you.

We are all giving something to help the cause of these eagles - thru money donations, thru item donations, thru observations, thru photos posted, thru spreading the word - we all are contributing! That friend you showed the site to who sent $5 to IWS - that's $5 more for help for the eagles to succeed!

So - from the bottom of my heart - thank you IWS and all the parties there that are working so hard to make this story a success - and it is even if it has taken many years of selfless dedication, it is becoming success - and to all of you who support the work in whatever way you can! HartSpin2.gif

Since the eagle eggs are laid with a couple days between each, they will hatch in the same order. The age difference is one of the biggest factors of well-being and survival of the eaglets. The older chick is larger which is a distinct advantage in getting the food brought to the nest by the parents. The older chick will dominate its siblings, pecking them into submission and it has been observed, their actions may contributed to the death of younger eaglets - usually lack of and competition for the food. It is not common in a 2 chick nest but a third hatched chick has little chance of survival. (NOTE: The WE nest is unusual because it has 3 parents providing care and most importantly, food. Also the location of the nest provides easy access to food sources)

3 chicks - 3 parents!

So well put Deb! I agree 200%! I have supported and will continue to support this cause any way that I can. As we have seen, even a little can go a looooong way! thumbUp.gif applause.gif hatch1.gif EagleGuy.gif eagle.gif

Look to the left and behind Dad, looks like he brought breakfast in, unless it was there behind Mom.
