Good Morning Cruzers,

We’re nearing the end of September and the Fall Migration of eagles in the Pennsylvania area will begin in about 6 to 8 weeks. Yesterday we ventured out to the Susquehannock State Park area and down to Conowingo Dam to make the circle of the nests we showed you this summer. The nest at the river looked like it needed to be mowed with all the grass that was growing on it. We found that the three juvenile eagles from down at the river nest have moved up to visit the two juveniles from the high-powered electrical tower. They were all soaring over the dam’s lake. As we stood on the bridge that crosses the lake at the dam breast they circled over us, watching as we moved back and forth on the bridge for the best vantage point. We didn’t see any of the adults, who should need a rest after raising these five beautiful eaglets. SoaringEagle.gif SoaringEagle.gif SoaringEagle.gif SoaringEagle.gif SoaringEagle.gif

We then drove down to the Conowingo Dam. The river was low and the local resident eagles and their offspring were fishing out the easy pickings. We saw 15 to 20 eagles perching on the towers and flying over the dam. They were gathered on the high power electric towers in the middle of the river on the island. It seemed like the juveniles would still like to be fed by their parents as they chased the adults with their catch.

In 2008 when we started searching for eagles in our local area we visited the Conowingo Dam during the Thanksgiving weekend and saw the migrating eagles as they stopped to fish at the Dam. We revisited the Dam in December and the migrating eagles were still in the area. Thanksgiving weekend may be a good time for an East Coast gathering. We have a few days off for the holiday and plan to visit the Dam that weekend so if anyone would like to join us we just need to choose the date and time. We usually try to plan by the weather because it can be quite cold in November. We would be looking for the best day out of the Friday, Saturday or Sunday holiday weekend. Hopefully the weather will be dry and fair on Saturday, November 28th. Camera_Bug.gif

Here’s something you might see if you join us at Conowingo Dam on the 28th. This ten second burst of the catch was photographed on October 11th when we visited the Dam with Deb and Gary. SoaringEagle.gif Cartwheel-ani.gif

Karen - Deb - Gary -

Sorry I missed the last get together! I am still working on getting my Mom's house ready for sale...but the good news is we are just about done. I am open for Thanksgiving weekend!

The pics from your last visit to Conowingo were great!

Looking forward to meeting up with you then.

28th of october or nov? Now that my foot is finally cured i should try to appear at an event. Alas, the closest for me to get to would be lancaster. Judging by the top quality images it looks as if it would be the ultimate shooting excursion for any true cameraholic like i am. Camera_Bug.gif

George I went back to the 1st Post on this page, and it is Nov. 28th. Sorry I will be in Ga., or we could ride out together in my car, providing it wouldn't be cold.

Given my car is a real lemon the only way would be to hop amtrak into lancaster which would put me in lank at roughly 945 or 10am if i make the connection on time at 30th st. It could be done by me as i have no plans for turkey day fun.

seems rather insane to roast an oversized chicken on steroids for just one person so i dont bother with the holiday.

Don't fret George we will work something out to get you to the eagles. Just have your camera ready for shots like this. SoaringEagle.gif
