LEIGH
My name is Leigh and I have been lurking for a number of months. I got up the courage to post my first comment on Hulabird's birthday! I live in San Dimas, California, which is about 20 miles east of Los Angeles in the Foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. Although I moved here with my parents at a young age, I'm not that young anymore....59! I still remain a Canadian Citizen and about 8 years ago, I bought a home on Salt Spring Island, B.C. ( Salt Spring is one of the Gulf Islands which lie between Vancouver Island and the mainland ). My mother lived in the home until her death about 4 years ago. I still visit the island and my house frequently and the plan is to retire there in a coupe of years. Cumbrian, I know your neck of the woods well and love the area! I have watched all of the eagle sites since the begining, Hornby, Sanich, Maine, all of them, but I must admit, the posters on this site are really the BEST! Enough of me..Thank you all, the IWS Crew, the wonderful people posting here, just everyone involved with this forum for making my life a richer and more fulfilling one! P.S. I received my DVD from Dr. Sharpe yesterday....All I can say is "WOW" ------------------ LEIGH San Dimas, California |

I live in Oxnard Ca, which is one of the cities that are across from the Islands. Whenever I can see the islands (we get lots of fog here) I think, there are some Very Special Birds over there. I work for the Department of Transportation for the State of California, as a Dispatcher. In my off time I enjoy racing my dwarf car at Ventura Raceway, which is very near the beach with a great view of the islands. I have been married to my husband, Steve for 13 1/2 years. We have a cockatiel named Fred and two Fur Babys. A blonde Pom named Angel (we sure named her wrong), who is very spoiled and a Cat named Princess, who really thinks she is. I've been to Alaska and enjoyed seeing the eagles there but nothing like I enjoy watching our eagles. That's about all for now. Happy Watching. ---------------- Cindy Oxnard Ca. ![]() Click on photograph to enlarge |

Lou
My name is Marlou. It is a combination of my father’s and mother’s name. Mar from Martin and Lou from Louise. My father named me. I was born in San Diego, CA, in 1949! My family moved to El Cajon when I was 8. My high school mascot is Ernie the Eagle. Well, I don’t know if they still call him that. Anyway, we were Eagles and there was a really cool flying eagle statue in front of the school. I graduated from UCSD (BA in Math) and moved to Ventura. I have lived in Carpinteria for the last 30 years. I have a son and a daughter. And they were Warriors in high school. So I have no problem with female warriors. My daughter went to school with Peppermint’s son. I have a rabbit that I adopted from B.U.N.S. (Bunnies Urgently Needing Shelter). She is my avatar. My husband has relatives in England. We visited them in 2001 and had a great time. So I have been enjoying the comments about England and Scotland, etc. because it reminds me of the trip. Hope to go back again soon! -------------------- Lou, Carpinteria, CA ![]() Click on photo to enlarge. |

My name is Frances Dixon and I live in Somerset, Kentucky. I am at the southern most part of Kentucky, but still have all the "bad" weather during the winter. I live next to Lake Cumberland which is the largest man made lake in Kentucky. I have seen a couple bald eagles around the lake, but since I am not "on" the lake I have to go hunting with my camera. I haven't yet been fortunate enough to get pics yet. I am married to Michael and we are both retired teachers. He retired with heart problems and I retired because it is necessary for someone to be with him. We have one son, Ernie, who is looking for a job. He has his Master's in Library Science. He graduated in May and still hasn't found the "job" so he is getting very discouraged. I told him he was too young to give up yet ---------------- Frances Somerset, Kentucky -------------------- ![]() Click on photo to enlarge. |

Lemonwood Eagle Squad
We are third grade eagle watchers from Lemonwood School. Our school is in Oxnard, California. Over 600 students go to our school. There are twenty students in our class. Some of us are eights years old, and some of us are nine. We are watching the eagles on the computer in our classroom. (Our teacher says to add that we watch it after all our class work is done, or at recess.) We are excited about watching the eagles and learning more about them. -------------------------------------------- Lemonwood Eagle Squad Lemonwood School, Oxnard, CA. |

Hi, My name is Sammy. I started watching eagles last year at the BRI site in Maine. I also watched the Loons there last year. I was watching when they had the awful storm that took those eagles away. So was looking on the internet, found this site and I just love being here. I live in Alta Loma California. I was born in Orange, California and when I was a little girl lived in Newport Beach so I could see Catalina from my house. I really enjoy all the pictures. Hi Everyone. First off THANK YOU for the chance so my wife and myself can enjoy the web cam's. My name is Jim and my wife, of 40 years, is named Linda. I grew up in Camarillo on our family ranch. My great Uncle Ed Glenn used to talk of the Eagles when he was a young man. I now get a chance to enjoy what my late family did through this media called the web. Linda and I live in the foothills of Monrovia California. We have deer, black bear, raccoons, red tail hawks But NO EAGLES. Thank you again and our check is on the way to IWS. ---------------- Jim & Lindaj Monrovia, California Photograph requested |

Leslie R.
Hi! My name is Leslie (Leslie R.) and I love the Eagles! My friend sent me the link to the Santa Cruz nest in January (2007), and I was amazed. I have watched every day since then, eventually discovering the other Catalina nests and the forum. I found myself drawn in by the forum posters...the friendly and informative feel had me reading everyday! Eventually the day came when I joined IWS and the forum. I am really happy to belong to this organization. I have always been a lover of all animals, and this seems to be a very special group to belong to. I am originally from Monterey, CA, but have lived in Southern CA for 25 years. I am a professional oboist. I am a member of the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra and the Long Beach Symphony. I also play orchestral recording sessions for movie soundtracks. I live in Malibu with Roger (a violinist) and Manfred, our fabulous 16 year old kitty. He is almost toothless now, (Manfred, not Roger) but he is still the fearsome man he has always been. Last week I went to the Empy Nest Lunch at Jeanette's in Santa Barbara and had a wonderful time meeting the Cruzers who attended. I was especially excited that Jann(Eagle Duo) was there, since I think of her as forum posting royalty. I am so looking forward to the prospect of joining in on a trip to the islands, so I can see an eagle with my own eyes! -------------- Leslie Reed Malibu, CA ![]() Click on photograph to enlarge. |

I just wanted to introduce myself since I finally posted today. [August 23/07] I'm Kathy from Austin, Texas. I've only been watching eagles for the past 6 months. I had to take some time off work for neck surgery and began watching the Maine eagles during my recuperation and the rest is history. Eagleholic for sure! After the Maine eaglets died, I couldn't watch that nest for a while and happened to find IWS - so glad I did. I'm married for many years to my husband Jim and we have 2 children, a daughter and a son both in their 20s. I'm a maternity nurse - went back to school 3 years ago and don't regret a minute of it. Also a social worker for many years and I still keep my hat in that ring as well. I've been hinting to DH that we might plan a vacation to CA to visit relatives - couldn't hurt to check in on the eagles at the same time, right? Peace -------------- Kathy Austin, Texas ![]() Click on photo to enlarge it. |

JoS
Hi, my name is Jo and I live in Palos Verdes, California, on the mainland and a bit north of Catalina Island. I've lived in the Redondo Beach/PV area for more than 37 years, migrating here from West Caldwell, New Jersey with my husband and 3 sons. My husband died many years ago and I feel fortunate that my sons are still in the area. I had been a birder for years but unfortunately my eyes are not as sharp as they were. I've been a constant visitor to this site since 63 was born. Last week I saw a Cooper's Hawk in a nearby tree, sitting there calling out just as 63 did for his parents to feed him. I've learned so much from all of you. Thanks so much. ------------------------- Jo Palos Verdes, California Photograph requested |

Luana
Aloha! My name is Diana Luana Schmidt (Luana in the forum) and I've been watching the Santa Cruz nest since last March. I absolutely fell in love with Limuw and his Mom and Dad. Despite the loss of our sweet boy, I look forward to all of the activites to come in the 2008 season. I had the pleasure of meeting with Debi "Hulabird" this morning over iced coffees in our little leeward town of Kapolei, Hawaii. Looks like we may be the only island girls who are members of the forum (so far). Many of my co-workers were hooked on the SC nest cam and may join us soon. Speaking of work, I am currently the Management Analyst with NOAA's International Fisheries Division in the Pacific Islands Regional Office in Honolulu. My division is focused on international fishing treaties, cooperative agreements, environmental, and fishery health concerns involving countries that surround the northern and western Pacific. I've worked for federal, state, city and county governments all over the USA -- Northern California, Colorado, Virginia, Northwest Washington state and now, my home state of Hawaii. Finally home again! Although there is one place that I'll always miss, and that's Yosemite National Park. I spent 9 years there as a Park Ranger during the 80's -- that was one of my best gigs yet! My DH, Corey, and I spend our precious free time golfing, boating, snorkeling, and going on long walks with our dog, Shadow. Corey is the Chief Building Official for an engineering and development company in Honolulu. I am really looking forward to getting to know everyone on the forum -- it really does feel like a big extended ohana (family). ![]() --------------------------- Luana Kapolei, Hawaii ![]() |

JanT
My name's Jan and I've lived in Santa Barbara since 1965. My first visit to Santa Cruz Island was in 1967. Since then I have spent time on the island with researchers and university classes in many different fields -- archaeology, botany, plant ecology, and zoology -- and have also led many natural history field trips to the island for various groups. Because of my knowledge of the island, I was selected to edit a book, Diary of a Sea Captain's Wife, Tales of Santa Cruz Island, about the adventures of Margaret and Ira Eaton, who operated the Pelican Bay Resort until the Stanton Family took over the island in 1937. My career is in anthropology, as a curator at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, where I joined the staff in 1974. I take care of the collections of artifacts from western North American Indian peoples, design and install exhibits, give lots of public talks, and answer lots of questions about Native cultures. I put together the exhibit on the Chumash at the Main Ranch on Santa Cruz Island and also consulted on the displays in the lookout at Prisoners Harbor. My main research interest is on the Chumash people and their relationships with the natural world, and my book on Chumash Ethnobotany was just published in summer 2007 after about 30 years of research. I've been married to Steve for 40 years. He's a botanist but has a background in zoology, too, and we love hiking, birding, and international travel. We were privileged to know Dr. Carey Stanton and his ranch foreman Henry Duffield. Santa Cruz Island bewitched us 40 years ago, and it remains one of our favorite places in the world. We're so glad that the bald eagles are living on the island again, and that they can help the foxes regain their place in the ecosystem of "America's Galapagos." ---------------------------- Jan Santa Barbara, CA ![]() Click on the image to enlarge. |

KareninSoCali
Hi! My name is Karen and I am an eagleholic! I live in Oceanside, Ca. I was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt. but my parents moved us to So. Cali when I was only 3 so this has always been my home. I was born in 1953. I have been married for 35 yrs. and have 2 grown children and one beautiful granddaughter who will be 4 in Aug. that I adore! She is the joy of my heart, the love of my life and the fire that burns in my soul! She is a true miracle as she had 2 knots in her umbilical cord when she was born. Luckily, she suffered no problems. I work in an on-campus before and after school childcare program with K-5th graders and have been at the same school for 13 yrs. I have loved all kinds of animals all my life but my favorites are the wolf and the bald eagle. I got addicted to the NCTC eaglecam a little over 2 yrs. ago when a girlfriend of mine from another forum posted that website. I was led to this one by one of the members there about the middle of last March I believe it was. I was thrilled to be able to see the hatching of Skye and Spirit, the babes of K10 and K26! I have shared the viewing of the cams with my students from the beginning in hopes that they will learn to love the eagles as much as I do and to instill a sense of respect, awe, and conservation in them as well. ------------------------- Karen Oceanside, CA ............... ![]() ............................
