Announce.gif PLEASE READ

We now have THREE nests with eggs.

The SC nest of .. A-40/m & a27/f .. has ONE egg.

The TH nest of .. K-81/m & K-82/f .. has TWO eggs.

The WE nest of .. K-01/m & Wray/f .. has THREE eggs.

The adults will be taking turns incubating it/them and normally during this time, or at a switch, the egg/s will also be rolled. This is to prevent the developing embryos/chicks from sticking to the inside of the shells.

While IWS is interested in the above information, and would be especially interested in knowing if an adult leaves the nest and the egg(s) are uncovered for a while, Dr. Sharpe has indicated in the past that he also wants us to simply enjoy the experience of watching all the happenings on the nests and learn more about these magnificent birds through the wonder of the Nest Cams.

Therefore, please continue to post observations in the usual way, but should you observe a parent switch or notice that the adult is not on the nest, it would be helpful to all of us if the time(s) could also be noted/posted ... along with whatever else you observe happening on the nest at that time.

Times of events/changes on a nest are a great help to those of us who video when we are editing the footage.

Just a few Gentle Reminders about posting on this thread. (Helps to save time when reading through it.)

Please remember that it is the CHANNEL ISLANDS NESTS ONLY...either on or off camera...that we post our observations/comments about.

There are FOUR nests with cameras online...so it is important to know WHICH NEST you are observing.

Please put the Initials at the start of your post...

. . .ALL 4 NESTS - http://iws.org/interactive_nestchat.html
. . .SC = Sauces Canyon #1 (WMP) - http://media1.vcoe.org/eaglecam1 (Temporarily off line)
. . .SC = Sauces Canyon #2 (embedded) - http://iws.org/interactive_sauces_nestcam.html
. . .TH = Two Harbors - http://iws.org/interactive_twoharbors_nestcam.htmlTH ARCHIVES
. . .WE = West End - http://iws.org/interactive_westend_nestcam.htmlWE ARCHIVES
. . .WE = West End (Wide View) - http://www.ustream.tv/channel/west-end-cam-wide-viewWE Wide-View ARCHIVES

Temp link only . . .SC = Sauces Canyon - http://www.ustream.tv/channel/sauces-cam

New link...may be temp . . .PH = Pelican Harbor - http://www.ustream.tv/channel/pelican-harbor

These nests are all in California...so it's Pacific Time on this coast.

We prefer that the Quote Button is not used on this thread...and if you must use it...because you are referring to something on a previous page...then take TEXT only...never captures or video.

Thanks!

“A request from Dr. Sharpe”

QUOTE (Eagle Guy @ Mar 28 2011, 09:34 AM)
We are recording the activity at the Two Harbors and West End nests so that we can identify all the prey brought to the nests to calibrate the results of the nest excavations at the end of the season. I'd appreciate if you could continue to report the times that prey are brought to the nest so that later we can go through the recordings more quickly to identify the items. Thanks.

QUOTE (Eagle Guy @ Mar 28 2011, 10:35 AM)
Maybe prey delivery posts could be started with  FishyBlu.gif even if it is a bird or unidentified,  so that we can spot them more easily.

To make it easier for the biologists to see the prey deliveries, please limit the use of the blue fish to prey deliveries only.

Begin your post with the nest initials, followed by the time of delivery & the blue fish.

QUOTE (Eagle Guy @ May 12 2011, 04:45 PM)
We are recording prey deliveries at all the online nests, so please continue to use the blue fish for deliveries at any nest.

Thank you!

Posted on the IWS Facebook page:

"We got the Pelican Harbor nest online today (nests are named after the territory, not the exact location). We are using an older encoder now, but I'll order a newer one like that being used at Sauces. There will be no audio because the microphone just makes a terrible screeching and I don't want to risk a visit to the nest to troubleshoot. I may be able to stick a microphone at the top of the slope for ambiance if nesting looks like it will be successful."
