Helen produced this map as a reference for the places they talk about on Santa Cruz Island.

All Eagles All The Time 2013/2014 is an Archival/History in Videos showing the various stages throughout the year in the lives of the Eagles ...

K-10/male & K-26/female ... on the PH - Pelican Harbor Nest on Santa Cruz Island.

The adults did not use last year’s nest during season 2012/ 2013 and although the IWS Crew searched throughout the season they never discovered where they were nesting ... if at all.

The pair are still together. So hopefully they will return to one of the known nests this season.

If they do .. the Videos that will eventually be posted here on this thread will cover ALL the stages from Nestorations to Fledging

Each day on the Daily Observations thread ... also known as Nest Watch ... the observers record through commentary, videos, stills and screen captures what is happening on the nests.

So please check there for more information.

:clk: Santa Cruz Update. February 19, 2014 :clk:

The Pelican harbor pair K-10 and K-26 don’t seem to be incubating yet, but we did see both of them in the vicinity of the 2012 nest.
It looks as though they may be working on a new nest just a few dozen yards from the old one. Unfortunately it’s too late for us to move the camera without disturbing the birds, but we’ll be watching them closely.

:clk: Santa Cruz Update. February 25 - March 4, 2014 :clk:

Good news! The Pelican Harbor birds K-10 and K-26 have also started incubating.

Toward the end of last nesting season, Helen spotted a new nest in the vicinity of the Pelican pair’s 2012 nest. The new nest is only about 100m away from the 2012 nest, and it looks to be in a much healthier tree (the old nest tree is mostly dead). Hopefully they’ll commit to this one for several years, and stop jumping around from nest to nest. Late last week, I was able to see both birds taking a turn at incubating, but was unable to see how many eggs were in the nest.

They probably laid sometime during the last week of February, so we’ll be looking for hatching around the last week in March, or possibly early April.

:clk: Santa Cruz Update. March 11 - 18, 2014 :clk:

When we arrived on Santa Cruz last Tuesday, I headed out to check on the Pelican Harbor pair (now nesting near Chinese Harbor). K-10 was laying down when I arrived, apparently incubating.

The new nest is only about 75m away from the nest they used in 2012, but unfortunately we didn’t have time to put a camera in it for this season. It should be just a matter of running a few more feet of network cable, so hopefully we can get that set up for next year. For now, we’ll just have to continue checking on them ‘old school’!

:clk: Santa Cruz Update. April 8 - 15, 2014 :clk:

We had a few exciting happenings on Santa Cruz island last week. Most notably, the Pelican Harbor nest has hatched! Nate went to check on them first thing last week, and was able to see at least one chick in the nest.

:clk: Santa Cruz Update. May 2014 :clk:

Last week we went down to the Pelican Harbor nest (now in Chinese Harbor) with the adults K-10 and K-26. We banded their 2 nestlings which were in great condition.
A-92/m named Liberty and A-98/f named Malibu.

Both fledged in July 2014.

Camera Not Working! :'(

August 6, 2014 - Dr. Sharpe's answer to a question about the Pelican Harbor nest cam.

" The camera is no longer accessible. It has not been maintained since 2012, so we are lucky it was working at all. I hope to have a new system installed at the new nest by Thanksgiving."

August 31, 2014

K-10 and K-26 changed nests again! Too late for a camera to be installed.

Two chicks hatched and successfully fledged from the new nest.
