My sincere appreciation to my mentor, Jann, for her skill in snipping around the various items so that I could 'fit' them on the eagles. I couldn't have carried this concept through without her expertise and support. user posted image

Yes, Penny, that is my own beanie collection, along with a raven and a couple of ..... large white birds, hmm, how did they get in there? . :P

harpo516 - May 3, 2012 01:57 PM (GMT)
we were supposed to be boarding our plane tonight to fly off into the sunset to CA for our vacation/tour :'( but considering everything, we're thankful ES quickly found another job and even though we still have some bumps to deal with, things are slowly getting sorted out ..... oh well...... maybe our CA trip is just over the horizon and we'll make the journey sooner than later :) :X:

Good morning Cruzers!

Cheryl, that is just toooooo cute! I knew Jann had a hand in it somewhere. :D

Still recoiling from the shocking news yesterday about Junior Seau and losing an eaglet at the Rattlesnake nest. :'( <3 Was posted on Catalina's update yesterday.

We love our teeny tiny baby.
Rachel and John took baby Avery home yesterday.
I'll be going to visit again tomorrow.
These are photos from Monday taken in a dark room without a flash.
I'm really sorry to be away from the forum for so long, but, I'll be back! :D
I love all the NAC post's. I have been checking in on NOBS, NAC, and IWS updates.

Here's a Zoey photo, we're trying to keep our morning hikes.
I'm late today but the weather has been perfectly cool.
Zoey has been staying at Rachel and Johns lately while we
were visiting at the hospital. Zoey has had a really good time
getting to know her cat cousins Tiny and Colby Jack.
They all wait on the couch together by the
window for someone to come home.
Zoey, yesterday, photo was taken with my iPhone.

Good Morning, it's almost Friday...one more day! >O< I'm ready to enjoy some much needed sun on the coast. Today is gorgeous in Santa Barbara. Congratulations again Topa and your new addition to the family  I have a stack of reports to get done this morning, so I'll try to check in later on my phone.

Cheryl, amazing and very funny presentation this morning.. love the chicks with their caps.. great job :)^ :)^

Topa, Avery is a beautiful little baby.. I can see why you are absent...enjoy your time with her and take lots of pics...

ojailala - May 3, 2012 03:43 PM (GMT)
A visit with Pimu and Hydi is always something to look forward to.. but even I was surprised at how beautiful Hydi has become. Maybe it is just that the golden eagles I usually see are not in great shape.. and even our 'Shytan' is smallish. So when she brought Hydi outside, it took my breath away.. her light feathers shining in the sun... she and Steff have a wonderful relationship with lots of light chatter from Hydi while eating...just love her... Pimu too is a beauty.. a little off balance a few times I noticed.. but healthy looking...

Cheryl, what a creative and hilarious NAC post this morning. :)^
having a rofl was a great way to start the day! Thank you!

RT vs. rattler, I thought for sure the rattler would win. Boy was I wrong.

Lala, great pics of Pimu and Hydi, thanks for sharing!

Glad it is almost Friday, but I have to attend City Council tonight at 7pm and could be there til 9 or so...so late night for me tonight. I love comp time though!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Sending lots of cruzer <3 and mojo to Mina

Hello Cruzers.

So very sad about Junior Seau. No clue who he was so I googled him. Sorry I'm not a big sports person.

Our area has been affected by two suicides last weekend. One of our students from another campus and a 16 year old high school student from Lake Placid. Separate incidences not connected. It's been a very somber week here.

I'm taking the day off from work tomorrow. DH and I are going to finally go to camp and get the water on and do the cleaning. :><: :><: :><: :><: Can't wait to get there.

Hydi and Pimu <3 <3 <3 <3

Laurie, have a great time this weekend. It should be fun even with all the work!

EarthMuffin - May 3, 2012 04:19 PM (GMT)
Ooh Laurie, have a great time at your cabin! Sounds like a MUCH better way to spend a Friday! We'll miss you!

Morning all...taught a class this morning, now taking a quick break to check in with my Cruzer family.

Linda, I noticed the same things as you...Hydi's beautiful golden shine and also Pimu's coordination :(

Funny...I think I have a couple of similar pics. And how funny you had the raven and mom and so did Gary from last year..guess we all have similar eyes when it comes to nature!

As for that storm last week that impacted the RS nest...we were on the island that night...the wind was whistling thru our hotel room door like a train whistle. And there was mud everywhere when we went out on the road. But I was sad that the wind took yet another chick...although Steff mentioned he seemed very uninterested in eating at meal times and was very laid back..so maybe Mother Nature was kind taking him this way :'(

I second that! GREAT WORK!

Topa, Avery is sooooo perfect <3

Deb, I'm sure your CA trip will happen before you know it...we always find a way for the important things. Actually, the thought of not traveling is one of the biggest concerns I have of taking this retirement package. It would mean big lifestyle changes, but...I think my stress level could use some help, so I'm sure we'll find a way if I do it. It may just mean 1 CA trip a year instead of 2 :P

ojailala - May 3, 2012 04:42 PM (GMT)
Working on video of Hydi...

chiquita - May 3, 2012 04:43 PM (GMT)
Deb...I'm thrilled that Gary found a job so quickly...as for Catalina...the Magic Isle will always be there waiting. October is a great month to visit...it's still warm, businesses haven't gone into winter mode with reduced hours or have closed for the winter season. Also, the tourists are pretty much gone and the children are back in school. One of my most enjoyable visits was at the end of Oct. one year...ocean was as smooth as glass which added even more enjoyment to that trip.

The full Moon has a reputation for trouble.

It raises high tides, it makes dogs howl, it wakes you up in the middle of the night with beams of moonlight stealing through the drapes.

If a moonbeam wakes you up on the night of May 5th, 2012, you might want to get out of bed and take a look1. This May’s full Moon is a "super Moon,” as much as 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full Moons of 2012.

The scientific term for the phenomenon is "perigee moon." Full Moons vary in size because of the oval shape of the Moon's orbit. The Moon follows an elliptical path around Earth with one side ("perigee") about 50,000 km closer than the other ("apogee"). Full Moons that occur on the perigee side of the Moon's orbit seem extra big and bright.
Such is the case on May 5th at 11:34 pm Eastern Daylight Time when the Moon reaches perigee. Only one minute later, the Moon will line up with Earth and the sun to become gloriously full. The timing is almost perfect.
Okay, the Moon is 14% bigger than usual, but can you really tell the difference? It's tricky. There are no rulers floating in the sky to measure lunar diameters. Hanging high overhead with no reference points to provide a sense of scale, one full Moon can seem much like any other.

The best time to look is when the Moon is near the horizon. For reasons not fully understood by astronomers or psychologists, low-hanging Moons look unnaturally large when they beam through trees, buildings and other foreground objects. On May 5th, this “Moon illusion” will amplify a full Moon that's extra-big to begin with. The swollen orb rising in the east at sunset will seem super indeed.

Folklore holds that all kinds of wacky things happen under the light of a full Moon. Supposedly, hospital admissions increase, the crime rate ticks upward, and people behave strangely. The idea that the full Moon causes mental disorders was widespread in the Middle Ages. Even the word "lunacy," meaning "insanity," comes from the Latin word for "Moon."
The majority of modern studies, however, show no correlation between the phase of the Moon and the incidence of crime, sickness, or human behavior. The truth is, the Moon is less influential than folklore would have us believe.
It's true that a perigee full Moon brings with it extra-high "perigean tides," but according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration this is nothing to worry about. In most places, lunar gravity at perigee pulls tide waters only a few centimeters (an inch or so) higher than usual. Local geography can amplify the effect to about 15 centimeters (six inches)--not exactly a great flood.
Super perigee Moons are actually fairly common. The Moon becomes full within a few hours of its closest approach to Earth about once a year on average. The last such coincidence occurred on March 19th, 2011, producing a full Moon that was almost 400 km closer than this one. As usual, no trouble was reported.
That is, unless you count a midnight awakening as trouble.
If so, close the drapes on May 5th. Otherwise, enjoy the super-moonlight.

Laurie, that is such tragic news. I guess the thing about suicides that affects me is that these people have lost all hope. How can a 16 year old experience life enough to know that all hope is gone? :'( <3

Topa/Cathy Avery is such a doll. A reason to be thankful and enjoy life to the fullest. <3

Linda, thanks for the reminder about the "super moon" this Saturday.

Looking ahead, there will be an annular eclipse of the sun on May 20th. An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon's apparent diameter is smaller than the Sun, causing the Sun to look like an annulus (ring), blocking most of the Sun's light.

Oh really? The prices for 'fine' art are just outrageous and really a sad commentary on what our society deems to be worthwhile and iconic  Who on this planet has that kind of disposable income ?

What a shame that money couldn't have been used to help humankind instead of being the 'prized' possession of somebody to salve their ego and be a reminder of how important they are in the grand scheme of things :BX:
