I wish you all a happy and good Easter!
Many years ago, we had been in Sweden that was in 1997. We visited the bear park in Mora; our children were not so old at that time. Both boys should have a memory of good experience to take with us home.
We picked a part of memories along our vacation; at last we had a lot of finger puppets to take with us home. Our boys and we had a lot of fun with these puppets in many years. Every evening we made a theater show with these puppets, just before bed time.
Now our bear are sending you Easter greetings…

Yours maria dk.. :Hugs:

Hi there! :}^
I mentioned that I had a new duck show up yesterday! It was surrounded by all the Whistling Ducks, looking inconspicious. :P I got a photo. Then, I realized that there was another (a pair). Started to get a shot of the two together, but they spooked and flew off. Both times, the new one was here between 9 and 10 am. Will be ready to grab a shot if they show up this morning.
Here is the one shot I got. Mallard female??? No blue on side though

Again, this is a Mallard female photo from a duck site......

I just confirmed my new visitors :)^ - I do have a female Mallard and what I think is a youngster. The female has the blue markings on the sides.

jeannec - April 6, 2012 02:26 PM (GMT)
Marti - could that be a female American Black Duck?
wrightflyer - April 6, 2012 02:34 PM (GMT)
By the way, if daddy Mallard shows up, he will look like this... (Awwwwww, look at those cute little tail feathers) :P :)^

How bout som totally useless trivia? :P
Ever wonder why easter is never a specific date each year??
Well by christian convention, save for the orthodox churches. Easter is always the sunday after the first full moon of spring. Tonight is spring's first full moon hence easter is this sunday and not some time in march.
Hmm, now i wonder how often good friday and a full moon coincide as i dont remember one in the past
Happy Easter

Hi Peeps,
A dear friend of mine, who is more like a sister to me (so I call her my sister-friend) called me in the wee hours this morning to tell me her cat Moussa passed away. She is in Canada on a business trip, and her cat sitter called to tell her. Very sad. Moussa was a very sweet cat and lived a good, long life.
It is quite a story about how Marni came to acquire Moussa and his buddy Baba (Baba died about 5 years ago). Marni was in South Africa teaching english and this teeny tiny little white and black kitten (Moussa) came up to her out of nowhere. She picked him up and fed him and kept him for a day or two. But then he left. Well, the next day he returned, and this time he brought a friend with him (Baba). Marni decided to take them in and give them a home. Marni had hired help and one of them wasn't working out so she had to fire him. He was so mad at her that he put a curse on her home and her cats. Soon thereafter, both the cats developed tumors in their stomach! Marni got them the care they needed and nursed them back to health. Then, when Marni moved back to CA both cats had to go thru quarantine which is something like 6 months in isolation. So these cats went through alot to be with their mommy. Marni spoiled them, and being a single woman with no kids, her cats were her fur-babies. It is a big loss for her.
Today is my sister Shaunene's (we call her Nene for short) 41st birthday.
So businesses and schools are closed on Good Friday on the east coast?? Why not the west coast??
Saw Mr. and Mrs. Duck on the creek this morning, but no time to take a pic.
Here's a cute pic for you as we approach Easter,
Artsy Mom - April 6, 2012 04:19 PM (GMT)
Marti your duckie menagerie must be eating a lot of bird food at your place :P How cute the Mallard showed up too...maybe she had a youngster who wasn't quite ready to migrate too far  Enjoy them while they are there and who knows maybe they'll stay :)^
I was quite upset to see a crow with a badly drooping right wing yesterday which prevented it from even flying up on a tree limb. Last night around 8:00PM there was a huge cacophony of crows cawing so I went out to look and there were at least 50 of them in the boulevard tree directly in front of our house. There on the ground was this crow hugging the base of the Elm tree. I didn't try to capture it but looked around for a cat...never saw one but the crows were beside themselves and I was just making it worse. Some of them moved to a tree a few houses down the street while others were flying around above me.

I watched as it walked across the street and went under some hedge bushes. It does seem able to forage, but it must be in some pain  Too bad I didn't get a :clk: but I came in and phoned Wildhaven Rescue and left a message on their machine. I don't want to catch this bird if I can't bring it to someone who will try to help it...of course, being the Easter weekend most people aren't at work :(

Hi Jeanne! Wow, they make it difficult sometimes to identify!??
I searched Black Duck on PB. Got this picture....

It could be either Mallard or Black Duck. However, I am not seeing the white border on the blue as it is on the Black Duck. I guess I need them to ruffle their feathers a little so I can see better! It's so fun to have new "guests" drop in. I'll keep an eye out. They came to eat this morning at 8:30 am. They do not feel safe here as yet, and the least little noise, and they're gone. :P
Artsy Mom - April 6, 2012 04:48 PM (GMT)
RIP :^^^: Moussa :candle:Praline Marnie should comfort herself with the fact she gave Moussa and Baba a better life and that they both lived long and healthy ones with her (((GH))) So hard to lose any pet :'(
Artsy Mom - April 6, 2012 04:57 PM (GMT)
Sad News.... a military jet that just went down in Virginia Beach, Virginia. For local residents - a military jet went down off of Birdneck Road and apparently hit at least a few apartment buildings in the Mayfair Mews.

No news on fatalities at this time :'(

OK now I remember this from Carole's duck pictures!! This forum is so educational! The top picture is a Mallard, the bottom picture is of black ducks. What's the easiest way to tell the difference????....

THE COLOR OF THEIR BILLS!!Mallards have orange bills while American Black Ducks have yellow-greenish colored bills with the mailes' being brighter!!! :ok: DUCK 101 IS NOW OVER!!!
marshaz - April 6, 2012 06:30 PM (GMT)
Way to go Jeanne. I knew there were people out there who knew about ducks. :D
Carole, are you going to Israel next year. I went in 1982 and it changed my life. It was amazing to see the Holy sites.
