Good Morning Monday Peeps
:clk: for movie
In case anyone missed the debut of this 3 minute Cartier film last night. This is in HD and absolutely spectacular >O<
'L'Odyssée de Cartier' is a visual spectacular of cutting edge special effects, which explores the fine jeweller's archives and back-story in a bid to showcase the brand to both existing customers, emerging markets and a new generation.
"This project has been treated like a real movie," Cartier UK's executive chairman Arnaud M.Bamberger explained at a preview screening at Cartier's London HQ last week, "we wanted the best special effects, a big director, an incredible model and props to intertwine with our incredible history.
"We wanted a movie we would be proud to show to Steven Spielberg".
Well as promotional videos go, you have to hand it to Cartier, L'Odyssée de Cartier really is a no-expense-spared mini-masterpiece.
The three and a half minute film follows the iconic symbol of the brand - the panther - on a whirlwind trip around the globe where he brushes with key moments and locations from Cartier's rich history.
The panther itself is steeped in history. 'La Panthère' being the nickname of Catier's legendary designer Jeanne Toussaint who created their first ever piece of panther jewellery - a bracelet for the Duchess of Windsor.
The panther travels to St Petersburg in the snow, to China where he comes face-to-face with a golden dragon, to an Indian palace built upon an elephant's back and filled with glittering animal jewellery (many pieces of which reside in the Cartier archive), before leaping aboard the wings of and identical replica of the airplane built by Alberto Santos-Dumont, to showcase the classic Cartier Santos watch (first commissioned by the Brazilian aviation legend in 1904).
The panther finally lands in Paris, the birthplace of Cartier, on Place Vendôme where he meets supermodel Shalom Harlow at the Grand Palais.
L'Odyssée is the the work of a vast team led by leading advertising film director Bruno Aveillan. He was supported by a crew of 60 on location, with a further team of 50 special effects technicians working on the post-production for six months. An original score was composed by Pierre Adenot, and the red dress worn by Shalom was custom-made by young Chinese fashion designer Yiqing Yinwith, while a total of three panthers were used for filming due to strict animal welfare laws.

Hello Cruzers. Had a busy weekend, and didn't get to check in.
It's sooooooooo cold here today and I'm hearing we could see temps from 5 below to 17 below tonight. Ugh!!!! I'm freezing already - hot soup and tea for lunch and I'm still cold.
Haven't caught up from the weekend postsss yet, will try to do that later.
There was a horrible car accident in our area this morning. A head on collision. The picture of the car is in our local paper, not much left to the car - female patient was taken to the hospital, no word on her condition though - she had to be extricated from the vehicle. Sad.
Hi Deb - I've :}^ :}^ Really missed you the last few weeks. Glad to see your postssss today. :D :D :Hugs: :Hugs:
Sigh - I miss my flip flops too.
lakemaryeaglewatcher - March 5, 2012 05:38 PM (GMT)
Thanks, Penny, for the story behind the Cartier film. I did catch it last night and it was beautiful. The LA Times had a full page ad with just the panther but I didn't understand what it was about until seeing the film last night. It was quite spectacular.

Rush Limbaugh, who uttered a terrible personal diatribe on air against Sandra Fluke, a 30 year old feminist and activist enrolled at Georgetown University Law Center, has issued a 'sort of' apology to her.

She isn't buying it because it was issued after significant pressure from his sponsors who have begun to pull their support from his radio show. So far he has lost quite a few of them, but I'm sure he can survive if it gets cancelled because he earns $400 million a year!!!
Fluke didn't take a stand directly on whether advertisers should abandon Limbaugh, but she said that "Americans have a long tradition of supporting companies that share the values that they have."
He should put some of that money where his mouth is and donate it to the tornado victims :hair:

rofl rofl I am laughing at myself. NOW I understand that "show" when I turned the tv on this am to catch some of the today show. I kept trying to change the channel to channel 5 and thought something was wrong with my remote, cause it kept coming back to the 3 minute Cartier film.  I was wondering what had happened to the today show. . .
Now I get it. Thanks Penny for clearing that up for me. . . rofl rofl rofl

I guess 3 minutes is a LONG time for a commercial :P
SoCal Lady - March 5, 2012 07:21 PM (GMT)
LINDA--So sorry your DH is dealing with a shoulder impingement and tear. The condition is so painful ..I have had it twice. Once in each shoulder. The first surgery, the surgeon relieved the impingement (bone spur) arthroscopically and he said it had caused a small tear . He decided the tear was so small, to let my body heal itself, once the bone spur was removed. He made the right call.
A few years later I had another impingement in my left shoulder.. same surgeon. This time there was no tear at all from the impingement, so removing the spur took care of it.
Shoulder surgery recovery is painful, but after a few months of P.T., which is as important as the surgery, all heals well and no more pain.
Possibly your DH's impingement has not caused to big a tear either, and he can be spared the more extensive surgery repairing the tear as well. Either way, the surgeries are most beneficial...you just have to DO THE P.T. WORK FAITHFULLY post-op. My Surgeon made that very clear to me--he said we have to be partners in this. He would do his part and then I had to do mine. We were good partners. :ok:
PENNY--The Cartier production is spectaculary beautiful and imaginative! The St.Petersburg scene and the inside of the Indian palace are magical! <3

IT'S THE SIGMA 150-500 F5-6.3 APO DG OS HS 1149
BUT ANOTHER ONE AF 150-500MM F/5.0-6.3 NIKON 9
Dimensions (H x W x D) 9.5 x 9.5 x 25.2 cm
box
Filter size 86 mm
Suitable for APS-C
Weight 1910 gramsi am not sure why it cant be delivered by sigma to your retailer. my guess looking at the specifications is that one seems to have OS/IS and the other doesnt.
OS in sigma-eese in the lens name means optical stabilization
is the second lens less expensive?? if so that is likely the reason as its without OS
does your local camera store say the lens is discontinued or just "Back ordered"? if its just back ordered the dutch importer may just be waiting to be resupplied by sigma. if so id wait until they can get the os lens.
OS/VR/IS is a good thing for such super long lenses
the other thing that cuaght my eye in your description provided is that the second lens says designed for aps-c. this may be their distinction similar to the way nikon designtates their digital only lenses as "DX" thus a dx lens on a normal sensor gives you the exacpt focal length where as the 500mm other lens on a digtial gives you wiht the nikon a focal length equivalent of 759mm. that is why i bought the sigma full frame os 150-600mm
the other reason is that i have two nikon film bodies and i dont want to mistakenly mount the dx nikon lens onto a full frame film bodied nikon f100
