Good Morning Cruzers.

Happy Leap Day. An Extra day to spend with friends and to watch our eagles. :D :><:

Have lots to get done today, looks like the snow storm is gonna hit us. Possibly a foot of snow or so over night tonight so in case we have a snow day tomorrow I best get to the things on my desk.

Hey Petra,

My horse is still doing fine. My husband's horse is recovering. Luckily the fever has come down. There are still some horses that have high temperatures, but in general it seems to be getting better.

Thanks for asking!

Thank you George, Carole, Peetie and Laurie! :D It has been fun with the new lens.

Peetie - very sweet of your DS!

Simone glad to hear your horses are doing better, how are you?

LeicaEagle - February 29, 2012 03:43 PM (GMT)
speaking as a real cameraholic, the one thing i never ever do is lend gear to another. this is not out of mistrust per se, but if anybody damages my equipment id rather it be myself. besides, i might need the item for "that shot of a lifetime" . With the cost of lenses which are often more than the camera they are mounted onto its just too much of a risk for me to chance.

if you think nikon and canon lenses are expensive, try pricing a leica m mount lens and you will choke on your wallets rofl

GOOD LEAP YEAR DAY!

HERE IS A PICTURE (I DID NOT TAKE) OF MOUNT LAGUNA ON TUESDAY. YES, WE DO GET SNOW HERE IN SAN DIEGO IN THE LOCAL MOUNTAINS. WHAT AMAZES ME IS THAT IT LOOKS JUST LIKE BACK EAST OR VERMONT, INSTEAD OF WHAT PEOPLE PICTURE WHAT SD LOOKS LIKE.

OH NO LAURIE, AT LEAST OUR SNOW IS WAY UP IN THE MOUNTAINS. YOU HAVE TO GET IN THE CAR TO GO TO IT, IT USUALLY DOESN'T COME TO YOU.

STAY WARM AND COZY!

I will - I'm planning on stopping at the grocery store on my way home, to stock up on a few items.

JEANNE-- Cutie Chickadee on that interesting tree stump-- <3 Your photo looks like a painting. <3

MARSHA--What a pretty scene there on Mt.Laguna-the trees icy glistening and sun casting tree shadows on the snowy hillside. :><:

IDOL guys performing last night , most of them did quite well and a nice diverse groups of singing styles. I voted for Jermaine (the Gentle Giant), Joshua (from Louisiana), Aaron, (very talented), Jeremy (soothing voice and a sweet kid) and Philip (raspy, unusual voice).

The gals perform tonight. There were too many screamers among them, for my taste when they were trying out for the 24, will be interesting to see if they tone that down tonight.

Good Morning Peeps,

Well the 4" of snow they predicted didn't happen. I live in a little suburb just to the south of Medford, and all we got was rain, which froze overnight, but was melting this morning. Areas south and north of me got about 2" of snow. Its lightly snowing now. They are saying we could get 4" of snow between today and tomorrow morning. We shall see. Medford is kind of in a little bubble because we are a valley surrounded by mountains, so the snow and rain usually dump on the coastal mountains to the west of us, and the cascade mountains to the east of us, so we just get a trickle comparatively speaking.

Yowza Laurie, looks like you are gonna get a bunch of snow!! Oooh how exciting!

Sad about the tornadoes that hit the midwest last night killing 5. :'( :candle:

Oh, and the best news of all is that I finally finished my marketing plan - 31 pages total and turned it in, and finished a few other small things I had to do. So I am officially done with that marketing class! :**: :**:

My next class is a GIS class. I took a year of GIS in my undergrad studies. I have no idea how they will teach it online. It starts 3/15.

I finally made the decision that due to the fact that I have fibromyalgia and it is really difficult for me to clean the house (esp. all at once), I've hired a young women (daughter of dear friend of mine) to come and clean my house twice a month! Her first day is tomorrow! I can't wait!! It will be sooo nice to come home to a clean house!! :**:

Only 4 more days until my DS and niece are here for a visit!!! I am taking Monday off to spend time with them! :**: :**:

P.S. For some reason I can't see Jeanne's pictures. I'll check when I get home tonight and see if I can see them.

Happy leap year everyone.

I hope my email has not been hacked again. I have received 19 facebook links from Eileen/Cricket just this morning. I know they would not come from her personally. She would never do something like that. I guess it could be some stupid leap year thing but just since I typed this three more have come in!!!! Yikes.

I'm glad I don't live in MN. I saw a horrible snow storm on TV this morning.

Watch the web cam of the kitties that were taken off San Nicolas Island & are up for adoption- http://www.humanesociety.org/animal_commun..._center/webcam/

This special colony of cats used to make their home on San Nicolas Island in the Channel Islands. Because they were non-native to the island, all of the cats were slated by government officials for euthanasia. That's when we stepped in. Now the cats make their home at the Fund for Animals Wildlife Center in Ramona, Calif., where they have it all: food, toys, attention, and a place to call home.

I had posted the pictures to facebook and so just used that IMG link rather than uploading to Photobucket. Can anyone else not see the chickadee and eagle pictures? What's there instead Praline??

That tree stump the chickadee is on is actually one of the posts around the boat launch parking lot. Two chickadees were flying around from one to the next. They were cute as chickadees are good at being!! :D

The tradition of "ladies' privilege"

user posted image user posted image
'An opportunity not to be lost.
I ask you with all love sincere
If this Leap-year
You’ll have me Dear?’

In keeping with the theme of nature gone awry, a whimsical tradition dating back at least four centuries (and still trotted out at four-year intervals by newspaper feature writers) holds that leap years confer upon women the "privilege" of proposing marriage to men instead of the other way around. The convention was (in literature, if not in reality) that any man who refused such a proposal owed his spurned suitor a silk gown and a kiss — provided she was wearing a red petticoat at the moment she popped the question. :D

Another tall tale (there's no reason to believe it's anything but) dates the origin of ladies' privilege to the 5th century, around the time (speaking of tall tales) St. Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland. As the story goes, St. Patrick was approached by St. Brigid, who had come to protest on behalf of all women the unfairness of always have to wait for men to propose marriage. After due consideration, St. Patrick offered St. Brigid and her gender the special privilege of being able to pop the question one year out of every seven. Some haggling ensued, and the frequency ultimately settled upon was one year out of four — leap years, specifically — an outcome which satisfied both parties. Then, unexpectedly, it being a leap year and St. Brigid being single, she got down on one knee and proposed to St. Patrick on the spot. He refused, of course, bestowing on her a kiss and a beautiful silk gown in consolation.

Kansas, Illinois, Missouri and Kentucky hit by tornadoes :8O:

user posted image 7 dead so far :(

These storms are producing winds up to 130 MPH which people cannot outrun.
The damage is very severe is areas where they have touched down. Some places are under tornado watches until 8:00PM tonight. One hospital damaged but still able to stay operable in southern Illinois.

:candle: Prayers for all in the path of these storms :candle:
