Title: Nest Watch – Monday, January 2, 2012
Description: Will We See The Nests Today?
Cumbrian - January 2, 2012 08:00 AM (GMT)
<::: PLEASE READThis Nest Observations/Nest Watch thread remains open .. as long as there are cameras .. which are operational .. to watch.
Normally the VCOE and the IWS work on the cam equipment during the fall/winter .. so the cams may go off from time to time .. but we are normally advised by them if they are working in the area.
IWS weekly updates will probably be posted .. as in the past .. during this off season.
Just a few Gentle Reminders
about posting on this thread. ( Helps to save time when reading through it).
Please remember that it is the CHANNEL ISLANDS NESTS ONLY
... either on or off camera ... that we post our observations/comments about.
There are THREE
nests with cameras online ... so it is important to know WHICH NEST
you are observing.
Please put the Initials at the start of your post ... . . .
♦ ALL 3 NESTS
- http://iws.org/interactive_nestchat.html . . .
= Sauces Canyon #1 (WMP) - http://media1.vcoe.org/eaglecam1 . . .
= Sauces Canyon #2 (embedded) - http://iws.org/interactive_sauces_nestcam.html . . .
= Two Harbors - http://iws.org/interactive_twoharbors_nestcam.html . . .
= West End - http://iws.org/interactive_westend_nestcam.html
These nests are all in California ... so it's Pacific Time
... on this coast.
We prefer that the Quote Button is not
used on this thread ... and if you must use it ... because you are referring to something on a previous page ... then take TEXT
only ... never captures or video.

We are recording the activity at the Two Harbors and West End nests so that we can identify all the prey brought to the nests to calibrate the results of the nest excavations at the end of the season. I'd appreciate if you could continue to report the times that prey are brought to the nest so that later we can go through the recordings more quickly to identify the items. Thanks.
QUOTE (Eagle Guy @ Mar 28 2011, 10:35 AM)
Maybe prey delivery posts could be started with >>: even if it is a bird or unidentified, so that we can spot them more easily.
To make it easier for the biologists to see the prey deliveries, please limit the use of the blue fish to prey deliveries only.
Begin your post with the nest initials, followed by the time of delivery & the blue fish.
QUOTE (Eagle Guy @ May 12 2011, 04:45 PM)
We are recording prey deliveries at all the online nests, so please continue to use the blue fish for deliveries at any nest.

QUOTE (Eagle Guy @ Dec 19 2011, 10:29 AM)
The camera equipment is finally installed at the Two Harbors and West End nests. We now have to move some of the computers and network equipment around to improve speed and connectivity to the web. That will begin in two weeks. We are also having power issues at the West End, so we may need to turn off those cameras and let the batteries recharge. We are near the shortest day lengths of the year, so the power problems should dissipate as we get longer days, thus more solar power.
QUOTE (eaglegal @ Dec 20 2011, 09:58 AM)
Pete was controlling the camera early in the morning and I just got them started again. We are experiencing some power issues and cams go off unexpectedly. We will try to get to them back on whenever we get back to a computer, though Pete is currently travelling to Santa Cruz and I'm normally in the field for most of the day.
More details on tomorrow's update
QUOTE (Eagle Guy @ Dec 21 2011, 11:13 PM)
I'll be taking the Sauces cam off-line tomorrow as I reconfigure the equipment. It may not be back up until January when the VCOE gets some new equipment on the island.

WE - empty
amethyst - January 2, 2012 04:47 PM (GMT)
WE stop/go feed...
TH still frozen...
Patti - January 2, 2012 05:06 PM (GMT)
WE - cam view moves around....up closer in the nest now it appears.
TH - a very odd thought popped into my head early this a.m. when I woke up. What if K81 or K82 started looking around for other nest sites? This seems highly unlikely to me, plus it's still early in the year, but it was a thought I wish hadn't entered my brain.
amethyst - January 2, 2012 05:15 PM (GMT)
Patti, don't even.... The pair were working here even a  ...but, you never know what goes through their eagle heads....
TH bright but foggy, empty nest...
WE must be live as the fog has crept in beyond the nest yet again...
Patti - January 2, 2012 05:18 PM (GMT)
TH - Linda, I know....it's just the "first thought of the morning" thing today. Ugh! This is the PERFECT nest for them. Yes, it's also very early in the season still.
amethyst - January 2, 2012 05:41 PM (GMT)
Both nests are bright and sunny, lingering distant fog or mist...
WE water is moving, unoccupied...
TH water is moving here too, unoccupied...blinks off air
amethyst - January 2, 2012 05:56 PM (GMT)
amethyst - January 2, 2012 05:58 PM (GMT)
WE second adult arrives...
amethyst - January 2, 2012 05:59 PM (GMT)
WE it was K01 that was on the nest, after Wray's arrival he hopped up to the rock giving a clear view of his UB!
amethyst - January 2, 2012 06:01 PM (GMT)
WE Wray remains in the bowl, somewhat obscured by K01 who remains perched on the rock...both watch left....
Wray makes a moves towards the 6 and fusses with some fluff...
K01's tail brushes over her as he turns slightly to view her...
Patti - January 2, 2012 06:03 PM (GMT)
WE - peeking in to see both eagles on the nest...nice view!
amethyst - January 2, 2012 06:03 PM (GMT)
WE could Wray be issuing an invite??? K01 seems oblivious if she is...
amethyst - January 2, 2012 06:04 PM (GMT)
WE Wray remains in the bowl, turns to face K01 and trumpets...he looks at her...
Patti - January 2, 2012 06:04 PM (GMT)
We - guess that is Wray trumpeting on the nest and K01 also did so from the rock.
JoJo - January 2, 2012 06:04 PM (GMT)
K01 and Wray stand looking outward. Wray in her bowl, K01 on the rock.
They look to the front and Wray alerts and begins to trumpet and call, K01 follows her and calls out too.
Patti - January 2, 2012 06:05 PM (GMT)
WE - well, that certainly seemed to be a mating attempt, but she rejected him.
JoJo - January 2, 2012 06:06 PM (GMT)
Wray hops up to the rock and K01 takes it as an invitation to  She rejects his advance and he slides off and looks at her
Wray flies off to the left and K01 follows
amethyst - January 2, 2012 06:06 PM (GMT)
WE ...too late K01!! Wray hops up to the rock next to K01,
and K01 responds by flapping up and onto Wray and attempting to bond, Wray bites him off...
Patti - January 2, 2012 06:07 PM (GMT)
WE - Wray flew off the nest first, I believe, and K01 quickly followed her. I sort of lost my place with them after he hopped on her back.
amethyst - January 2, 2012 06:07 PM (GMT)
WE they seem to make nice, then Wray departs left...K01 follows her...
Patti - January 2, 2012 06:08 PM (GMT)
WE - they seemed to be on the lookout when I checked back in and saw them. I don't think she was in the mood for  LOL
