This Nest Observations/Nest Watch thread remains open .. as long as there are cameras .. which are operational .. to watch.

Normally the VCOE and the IWS work on the cam equipment during the fall/winter .. so the cams may go off from time to time .. but we are normally advised by them if they are working in the area.

IWS weekly updates will probably be posted .. as in the past .. during this off season.



Just a few Gentle Reminders about posting on this thread. ( Helps to save time when reading through it).

Please remember that it is the CHANNEL ISLANDS NESTS ONLY ... either on or off camera ... that we post our observations/comments about.

There are THREE nests with cameras online ... so it is important to know WHICH NEST you are observing.

Please put the Initials at the start of your post ...

These nests are all in California ... so it's Pacific Time ... on this coast.

We prefer that the Quote Button is not used on this thread ... and if you must use it ... because you are referring to something on a previous page ... then take TEXT only ... never captures or video.

TH - a very odd thought popped into my head early this a.m. when I woke up. What if K81 or K82 started looking around for other nest sites? This seems highly unlikely to me, plus it's still early in the year, but it was a thought I wish hadn't entered my brain.

Patti, don't even.... :lol: The pair were working here even a :wub: ...but, you never know what goes through their eagle heads....


TH bright but foggy, empty nest...

WE must be live as the fog has crept in beyond the nest yet again... :wacko:

TH - Linda, I know....it's just the "first thought of the morning" thing today. Ugh! This is the PERFECT nest for them. Yes, it's also very early in the season still.

Both nests are bright and sunny, lingering distant fog or mist...

WE water is moving, unoccupied...

TH water is moving here too, unoccupied...blinks off air :unsure:

WE adult on the nest!

WE second adult arrives...

WE it was K01 that was on the nest, after Wray's arrival he hopped up to the rock giving a clear view of his UB!

WE Wray remains in the bowl, somewhat obscured by K01 who remains perched on the rock...both watch left....

Wray makes a moves towards the 6 and fusses with some fluff...

K01's tail brushes over her as he turns slightly to view her...

WE - peeking in to see both eagles on the nest...nice view!

WE could Wray be issuing an invite??? K01 seems oblivious if she is...

WE Wray remains in the bowl, turns to face K01 and trumpets...he looks at her...

We - guess that is Wray trumpeting on the nest and K01 also did so from the rock.

K01 and Wray stand looking outward. Wray in her bowl, K01 on the rock.

They look to the front and Wray alerts and begins to trumpet and call, K01 follows her and calls out too.

WE - well, that certainly seemed to be a mating attempt, but she rejected him.

WE 10.05
Wray hops up to the rock and K01 takes it as an invitation to :wub: She rejects his advance and he slides off and looks at her

Wray flies off to the left and K01 follows

WE ...too late K01!! Wray hops up to the rock next to K01,
and K01 responds by flapping up and onto Wray and attempting to bond, Wray bites him off...

WE - Wray flew off the nest first, I believe, and K01 quickly followed her. I sort of lost my place with them after he hopped on her back. :wacko:

WE they seem to make nice, then Wray departs left...K01 follows her...

WE - they seemed to be on the lookout when I checked back in and saw them. I don't think she was in the mood for :wub: LOL
