As you know All Eagles All The Time 2007/2008 is an Archival/History in Videos and Still captures showing the various stages throughout the year in the lives of the Eagles on the West End Nest on Catalina Island.
We have followed them through the Nestorations and then onto the Eggs/Incubation stage and now we have finally reached the most exciting stage the Hatching of the Chicks and their Early Development...... so this is where we will put the Chicks and their Development stages ... because that leads us into eaglets and fledglings.
Two eggs were removed from the nest on March 13/08 and replaced with 2 fake eggs. Unfortunately one of the eggs didn't make it. But on April 15/08 Dr Sharpe manually assisted the remaining egg to hatch in the Incubation Unit at the IWS Facilities and the chick was taken care of there until fostering day on Saturday, April 19/08. But we had a further surprise on Friday, April 18/08 as a chick hatched at the nest ... another egg must have been laid after the switch! This is the first year that Wray and 01 have had an egg hatch naturally.
As you know all these Videos and Stills have been selected .. as their favourites ... by the members who have captured them on Nest Watch.

We wondered why both adults were constantly on the nest today .. even during a Raven attack Wray did not rise from the bowl. They also appeared to be listening to the eggs .. but they are fake.
SURPRISE! An extra egg was laid after the switch .. there is a CHICK on the nest .. first natural hatch for this nest.
Congratulations Wray and K-01 ... and your 1st hatched chick is coming home tomorrow too!

Wray back first and off again, 01 back second, pair back together in another few seconds...

K01 and Wray are agitated. Dr. Sharpe and Steffani must be nearby. You can see the naturally-hatched chick looking around in the second picture. K01 flew off in alarm but did come right back.
Dr. Sharpe places Westie into the nest with his/her one-day-old naturally-hatched sibling. He takes a few photos. ^"^ ^"^
Steffani also tries to take a few pictures and is divebombed by a protective parent. It's a good thing they wore their helmets!
Wray returns and immediately starts to brood the two chicks.

Wray deserves to be happy. She and 01 have two miracles. One chick manually hatched/ the other naturally!

01 relocated the pantry and then put it back in front of Wray where it was - he apparently thinks it's time to feed the chicklets but she isn't agreeing - he's given up for the moment and is standing off to the left side rofl eventually dad gives up and leaves
