Hi everyone! Everyone has something that inspires them, that reminds them of their characters, and helps you bring that character forth in writing! What inspires you? What songs or shows, etc. help you get into your character, and into your writing, or maybe just remind you of your characters? I personally tend to be more moved by music, and have a pretty extensive playlist. Emily tends to respond more to Taylor Swift songs, though, I think, as well as some classical... oh,and the song "Come What May" from Moulin Rouge. One song that I found this weekend that -really- is aching to be an inspiration for some character (unfortunately , not -mine-, though I love the song is Otherwise's "We are soldiers.." It would be great for someone with a more martial character! "check it out here!" Soooo... what moves you, and your characters? What songs/stories/movies remind you of other characters? Inquiring minds want to know! -Dee |

"Are you freebasing, Michael? Inquiring minds want to know." lol
Sorry had to do that, I hope someone gets it, it's from a movie. But yeah i have tons of songs that inspire me to write my characters. I have had Henry the longest of any character and plan on having him for much longer. I find a lot of Papa Roach and Staind songs get me in the mood to write him when he's feeling somber which is about 50% of the time, poor guy. But those uppity Queen songs really get me in the mood for his happy-go-lucky and sweet-natured side ^^ Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy is one of my personal faves and You're My Best Friend is such a Henryella song, it is so sweet lol. For the in between, when he is struggling with himself I sometimes turn to Alice in Chains or Soundgarden. Davion is someone I also get inspired to write though music, the only band I have ever written him through is Metallica, it just fits him very well, one whole thread was dedicated to his travels and the whole thing is inspired by Wherever I May Roam, another was named after For Whom the Bell Tolls, Turn the Page would have worked too though it was originally a Bob Seger song. Mary, eh I just look up clips from The Quick and the Dead to write her in all her badassery, Cyrus and Rusty are both still a little new to me they don't have any songs or movies. Sam is pretty much entirely based on Ian McShane's character Al Swearengen in Deadwood so not a whole lot of inspiration there lol. Sometimes I do look up clips from the show once in a while to get back into playing him. His softer side however can be a challenge at times. On LadyVic's site I have a character named Wolfgang whose play by is also Kiefer Sutherland but from The Lost Boys, his "theme song" is The Joker by Steve Miller Band since he is a bit of a womanizer and pothead, though I usually just watch clips from The Lost Boys on youtube to write him. That is the movie that quote is from btw ^^ |

What inspires me? There are a great many things that inspire me, and usually depends upon the mood I am in...
Inspiration can come in various means.. Pictures... Movies... Books... TV... Music... Something that someone said... The way my play partner wrote a scene... Quotes... Myths, Legends, and History itself... I get inspired by pictures... Pictures do say a 1000 words, and usually offers as many ideas. I can look at a character's pic, and imagine what it would be like to have that character interact with my own character... or I look at my character pic and wonder what he wouold be doing... or how he came about... Music... ahhh yes... Music inspires many a thing... from sex to roleplay... from sports to relaxation... and everything in between... For me, if I am roleplaying the western genre it is the old western music, especially the spaghetti western music... or maybe the music from "Last of the Mohicans" or even Marty Robbins... or the old TV westerns like Branded, the Rifleman, Zorro, The Virginian... Something that someone said... The way my play partner wrote a scene... Quotes... Myths, Legends, and History itself... Ahhh, the interaction...lol, refer to pictures blurb... Movies... :;laughs:; movies provides a vehicle of ideas to expound upon. Use movie and then add in your own flavor... or take an idea and see what it would be like if it went another direction... Books... ::laughs again:: need I say more... Books inspire movies, why not creative writing and roleplay of your own devices... Televison... the boob tube... not so much inspiration these days... I refer back to the other topics above...lol Well, thats about it for now... and I rated them how I feel about them... Any more questions? just email me... I like email... or even look me up on AOL... Gunwhisper... Will |
