Cows and Memories, Flashback - Fort Riley – Summer 1865

The heat of the summer sun bore down upon his hat, and JT could feel that it was gonna be a hot one today… Removing his hat, he used his sleeve to wipe his forehead… and he looked down at the steer before him and swore a curse. He hated cow punchin’… cows were the dumbest, smelliest, orneriest beasts on God’s creation… and he was tasked to move a herd of cows from Fort Leavenworth to Fort Riley so they’d be fat by winter set in. Normally, the soldiers would be with the cowboys, but it seemed that the railroad needed more protectin’ than the cows… so JT and the scouts would help the cowboys move the damned steers.

Fort Riley was a military station on the plains of Kansas Territory… Lee had surrendered the Confederacy to General Grant at Appomattox only a few months ago… and now the War Between the States was over… Of course, in parts of the south, and in Texas, battles were still being fought by those who refused to surrender… and now the railroad started pushin’ westward. It was the cavalry out of Fort Riley who would do the guardin’ in this area… and John Wesley ?; well, he was a scout for the Cavalry of course… but it seems that the scouts were paid for “additional” duties as well.

So here he was, sittin’ on the back of the buckskin, watching the ass of a cow sway left and right… Underneath the handkerchief, the material protecting him from breathing putrid dust, a smirk crossed his face as his mind wandered to Lacy Stevens… Lacy Stevens had a fat ass… Oh she was not overweight, but she had a buxom shape no doubts…

QUOTE
It was spring… and all the ladies in the Fort were showing off their winter-makings… including Miss Lacy Stevens. The married women would surprise their husbands with a noon picnic, while the single women loved to parade around in their new dresses in front of all the soldiers to watch the manly reactions, especially the eligible bachelors.

On this particular day, Miss Stevens approached JT with a smile and a bonnet.

Taking a break from his duties, he stood in the shade of the fort’s wall, while Lacy sashayed toward him to get a reaction. “Why Miss Lacy… you look real nice taday…” JT said with a slight bow.

“Why JT Wesley… I dun told ya, ya dun haveta call me Miss… especially since…” she broke off her sentence and blushed a bright red.

JT just canted his head. “Now Miss Lacy, I was trying ta be proper…” and he would attempt to change the subject, but apparently Lacy would have none of that. She was destined to bring the subject up. Maybe that, and more, was on her mind all the time.

Lacy looked around to see who was paying them attention, and when none were, she turned around and stuck her ass out to him… “Now JT Wesley, I know we was drunk… but you were not so proper the other night… and yu liked it… and so did I…” her words, tinted with an eastern accent, tossed over her shoulder as she looked back at him…

The cow quickly veering from its path snapped John Wesley back to the cow punchin’ tasks at hand. He spurred the buckskin cuttin’ horse and took off after the wayward steer. He would think on Miss Lacy Stevens again he was sure. There weren’t too many women he had been in love with… but he was a free soul, destined to wander, and he would not put her thru a lettered relationship, or an absentee marriage. JT loosened the rope loop and began spinning it to the side as he chased the steer.

Wrapping the rope around the saddle horn, JT spurred the beige cuttin’ horse, and began to rejoin the herd. On occasion, he felt the rope tighten at the tug of captured steer.

To the side of the herd, was a bull taking a cow as his own. On the range, you could get an education that would never be discussed in the schoolhouse. JT just smirked and remembered… In no big hurry, JT jostled in the saddle, and once more the heat and the gentle jostle of the horse, JT once more ventured into the Lacy Stevens dream-world.

“Why JT Wesley… yu git down from that tree rite now and sit yerself down here with me…”  Lacy huffed and spread out her finest dress so he could see it. “I didn’t ride all the way out here to see yu climb no danged tree….” She then rearranged some items on the red and white interlaced pattern, thinking they were misplaced to suit John Wesley.

John looked down at the woman below. With a wicked smirk, he could see her breasts much better up here. She was a chubby brazen girl of 18, but despite being a bit chubby, she still managed to be all the more alluring to the bachelor men of the Fort Riley… Though most girls her age on the frontier were already married, Lacy, being the daughter of the post’s senior enlisted soldier, Sergeant Major Tom Stevens, was able to avoid marriage by being “daddy’s lil girl…” but if Daddy knew what his “lil girl” was doing, he might have a different view of things. And JT was indulging in the lifestyle that Lacy preferred. “Alright Lacy my dear, I’mma comin’ down… Besides, I am hungry now…”

Lacy Stevens smirked and tugged on her blouse a bit, opening the neckline a bit more. “Now JT Wesley, what are you hungry for?? I know what I am hungry for…” Oh, Lacy was being provocative with JT but she would enjoy it until he had to go on patrol again… then she would miss him. It was well known she would tease the other males, but JT was what she wanted and she would do “anything” to keep him.

At her comment, John missed a branch and almost fell, with Lacy gasping then giggling as he looked down at her. “Now yu hush that talk girl… I’m tryin’ ta git down without killin’ myself… and I dun need any help from you…” then he too chuckled. Hand and feet moving branch to branch, he climbs down to be with “his girl.”

Lacy scooted next to John when he finally made it to the blanket and sat down. She kissed his cheek and winked at him; then began preparing his a plate of food from the picnic baskets. As she opened a basket, took out an item or two, then opening another, she glanced up at him.  “JT, ya ever thought about marriage…?”

JT took the plate of food from her as she spoke… and he smiled, but swallowed at the same time. “Well… ta tell ya the truth, not really. What kind’a husband would I be, always bein’ gone?” He took a bite and chewed it fully before speaking again. “Ya know Miss Lacy, I care about ya a whole lot… but I don’t know about us marryin’… and I understand should ya wanna change our relationship ‘cuz of it…”

“Damn you John Tyrone Wesley… did I ask ya about yer travellin’ ? I asked ya about marryin’… Did I say ME?” She huffed and canted her head; her long hair crossing slightly across her face and shoulder. She continued to ostracize his comments by being her usual strong will female. “Damn yu JT… I love ya… yes, I am a flirt… but ne’r in front of yu… and I ain’t had another man neither… I know yer ass is always gone… Lord knows I feel it when ya ain’t here…” She moved closer to him…. Her hand beginning to caress his face.

“Damn Lacy, who else would I marry? If I was the marryin’ kind of course…” he shrugged, not liking where this conversation was going… And as she moved closer, her touch was like a spark of lightning for his desires. “I know Lacy, God knows I do know… and care… a lot !!” and he fell back with a thud as she moved on top of him and began to gyrate against him, seducing him to her desires… and he moved his hands under her dress… and to his surprise, found no underwear… “Why Miss Lacy, so lewd…” and with a wicked smirk, she crushed her mouth upon his…

…and JT woke up to a jostled shove, nearly falling from the saddle… “Wake up Mr. Wesley, Ya ain’t getting’ paid ta sleep…” the Army’s herd-master said as he rode forward. “Damn !!” was all JT was able to say...
